Yep, that's the way I understand it too. Also bearing in mind that any "inline" applicants will affect the overall flow of your filters too.
Is everyone that's commented working with the 10x flow guideline?
Re: fx5 outlets
Humm... I don't really have any other outlets to try... I'd have to make my own lilly pipe. How have you get your outlets configured now? Will their alignment conflict with each other?
Re: fx5 outlets
I'll be interested to see what happens with your change Alistair. I'm finding the flow from the 405's spray bar very powerful and I'm not sure that the fish are feeling it. The shrimp I had in were getting blown all over the shop... Possibly why they didn't survive...
I have a Eheim 2078 Pro3e and I initially had it setup the why you have it, but probably not as full. I wasn't happy with the flow so decided to empty 2 of the trays, leaving the Mech at the bottom, then an empty basket, then a basket of Substrat pro, and then the final empty basket. I must say...
Without seeing you current configuration I can only guess that you have the spray bar coming into the tank from the left and the pump in that same corner? I believe that you get slightly better flow from the start of the spray bar than the far end. So I would assume that it would be best to put...
You would only need to prime it if you physically disconnect it, surely? With all the pipe work connected none of the water is going to move anywhere.
Tho, how would shutting it off affect the bacteria colony? Surely not having fresh water/O2 rolling over the media would have a negative...
I think that is how I would set up my powerheads and spray bar in that way if I had your tank. Have you turned down your lighting? On your algae thread you suggest that you have your lights on for 9hours a day. You either need to turn down the light duration or increase your Co2 and fert to...
I have a Juwel Rekord 110l low tech community tank that I have plants in. Java fern, Bolbitis, moss, crypts (balanse, wendtii) and all I have is the internal filter. So depending on what you're going for high/low tech will depend if you'll need additional flow/filtration.
Alastair does seem to be the supplier of free filters to the UKAPS massive! I'll just have to wait and see if anything I need comes up for grabs! ;)
I got my tubing from clearplasticsupplies. I wanted to get a 16mm rod too, but couldn't seem to find one... Like I said I just used super glue to...
I guess different hoses have slightly different properties so you may or may not have any problems. I also got a 15mm rod to seal the end and once superglued, heated and the outer tube squeezed around it the seal it water tight.
Hey Idris,
I purchased some acrylic tubing from zee ebay that has an ID of 16mm but has an OD of 20mm and I've been able to bend the tube with some success and attached 22/16mm hosing over it. I simply started the kettle boiling, opened the lid so that it didn't stop boiling and plunged the...
I would also like to know the answer to this.
I have recently created myself a spray bar out of clear acrylic tubing, and it occurred to me that the diameters that I have chosen may not have been ideal... I'm running the DIY bar on an Eheim Pro 3e 2078 which uses 22/16mm hosing. So my brain...
Sorry I meant flow within the tank itself. Filtration is one thing but flow and distribution of ferts and Co2 is important to, possibly more so. So I was wondering if he return pump would be able to give u enough flow to not require any additional powerheads?
I don't know anything about sumps, but assuming that this design will increase your overall filtration will it actually lead to a reduction in over all flow? Or does the return pump equal x10 flow?
Would stangering the holes in the spray bar be sufficient do you think? I was planning on have the more powerful one at the bottom mainly cos that will have the furthest spread and I was planning on running the Co2 through that one. I'll be making a spray bar from clear acrylic tubing so would...
Sorry to hi-jack the thread but I was wonding if your Klingon High Chancellor would beable to tell me if this filter configuration would be suitable on my 240l tank? I wanted to avoid having to double up on the Co2 systems.
Hi Idris,
I'm thinking a similar thing. My tank is pretty much the same dimensions as ur tank only I have two filters (Fluval 405 and Rheum 2078). I'm unsure how to arrange the spray bars for best flow... I'm currently thinking on stacking them so that they are generating flow in the same...
Hi,
As the subject says, are wet and dry filters any good in planted tanks? I'm talking about the external canisters like the Eheim 2229 Pro's.
Would that cause the added Co2 to gas off too quickly?
I've seen them on ebay too. I have been tempted by them due to the low price but also haven't gone out on a limb and splashed my hard earned cash. Has anyone got one/any variants that can comment on their quality?
At the moment (well... not right now as I'm changing scape, but u get what I mean) I'm running A Fluval 405, Korilia 1 and a Maxi-Jet 1000. Once my rescape is finished I'll remove the Maxi-jet powerhead and replace it with an Ehiem 2224 so that I have nearly the same turn over, but with the...
Hi Toad,
Tank is 240litres, but is quite deep. Hoping for a grassy look with some crypts thrown in.
I much prefer the idea of just running the 2 filters. I may have to look into swapping the Ehiem 2224 for a more powerful number, or get another 405.
The other factor is that I'm currently...
I've just taken this video of the flow out of my 405 spray bar. I'm wondering if this is going enough?
http://static.photobucket.com/player.sw ... 181947.mp4
It is fitted in this tank atm and has a AM1000 fitted inline.
I have a Korillia 1 in there too and have the option to add an Ehiem...
I'm pretty sure the standard ribbed hose is 17/22mm. I have a AM1000 setup on my 405 and use a length of tubing to connect the outflow to the reactor and then I'm using the standard ribbed hose to connect from the reactor to the outlet (spray bar) and the same ribbed hose on the inlet to the...
I've heard of ppl removing them. Tho they seem to be older tanks where the silicon has weakened. I could only think of using a thin craft knife to cut the silicon? Would heating up the silicon points make any difference?
Hi guys,
I have recently acquired some additional kit for my 240litre tank in the run up to a rescape. The equipment in question is an Eheim 2224 filter and a Hydor ETH 300w heater. The potential problem that I have is that the filter uses 12/16mm piping, where the heater has a 16/22mm...
The reactor seems to work well I don't get any bubbles coming through into the tank and I also managed to.nearly gas all the inhabitants! How efficient it is I'm not sure.
Ok, so I gave the take a clean last night. Cleaned the filter, removed the bio-balls from the reactor and changed the power heads to work WITH the flow from the spray bar.
Thanks Matt.
Yeah, I'm on the brink of rescaping the tank to an Iwaguni inspired scape. I'm hoping the addition of the spray bar, with the removal of the hefty piece of wood will get the "perfect" amount of flow.
Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone had any experience with Fluval 405's through AquaMedic 1000 reactors? I have the spray bar attached to the outlet, now... does it seem that the flow is reduced because I'm spreading the flow over many small holes or is the reactor sapping the power of the...
Umm... I didn't say that I have a Lilly pipe kit.
I'm wanting to convert the standard inlet, outlet and piping on a Fluval 405 to something a little more pleasing to the eye.
Thanks for bearking down the sizing tho! Very helpful.
I'm trying for find out the correct diametre of the hosing that I need. I've found a forum that says that it's 5/8" InsideD 3/4" OoutsideD, but what's that in real money???
I was hoping that there would be some recommendations from alternative tubing that I could use. The black ribbed hoses are a bit unsightly. I'd prefer to get so narrower (if possible) clear tubing. Is there an alternative out there?
Hi all,
I've recently setup a planted tank, but currently only using the standard outlet and inlet from my Fluval 405 filter. I'd be interested in swapping them out for some glassware and associated tubing but I'm unsure how to go about connecting it all up...
The Fluval 405 seems to use...
