I know I've already posted but had to give an update. I've had my Fluval 307 for several months now and I've never cleaned it since it was setup, yet the flow is still perfect and it's whisper quiet. Very impressed! Just wish it had a heater! 😅

They actually have an Oase Biostyle Thermo which comes with a built in heater. It's due to hit the UK market anytime now. Only downside is it's preset to 26c.

My Biomaster 350 is pretty quiet, can't hear it at all. My 850s on the other hand are very noisy. Can hear the hum from upstairs at night, and I've tried the usual things.

I run a Biomaster 850 and a 350 on my 350L tank. Seems sufficient!

The media trays should be relatively clean still thanks to the pre filter. The pre filter is all that should need cleaning after 1 month.

Do you mean like a clicking noise? If so my filtosmart definitely makes that noise occasionally and I never knew what it was. My Biomasters don't make that noise.

I have the 1600 just adding flow to my tank which is 350L (120cm). The flow cannot be adjusted.

I have this powerhead, and it is pretty decent. One thing I will say, it is quiet when it wants to be. Some days I can barely hear it, other days it's very noisy with no rhyme or reason.

Sorry, I should have said, I'm using the aquario pipes too and it works well. I get movement at the substrate level for sure but I add the powerhead to give me extra flow. With the dimensions of your tank it should be fine. Thanks so much! 🙂

Hey Jan, As long as you can control your flow so things aren't blowing around e.g. using a spin pipe like you said, it'll be just fine. The more filtration capacity the better!

Very interesting read Darrel, thanks! Let's say you didn't want to replace your biological media (assuming you've already bought it and it's established), could you replace your 'mechanical' filtration i.e. sponges with the scrubbers to get a similar function?

I'm assuming that the higher numbers are better? Also... are the pot scrubbers inert? I only ask because I've bought some wire wool looking scrubbers before that actually had detergent in/on it. Might have to take a trip to the £ shop!

If it's any consolation in my 2213 I removed the white basket thing and used the lid at the base to allow water to flow in and then just stuffed it to the gills with media. Doesn't appear to have any bypass.

I use stainless steel lily pipes with an acrylic lily pipe 'adapter' on a Juwel Rio 300. I just slot them into the cut outs at the back. I could have them at the side but it would mean physically making cut outs in the hood which I don't want to do. Otherwise it works well.

I'm of the belief that it will take some time for the filter bacteria to colonise the media in the Oase as it's a big jump. Also the water volume of the tank is a big jump.

Can you fit other heaters in the BMT? Or can you only use Oase?

I think I was just prang because it is for flowing up rather than down but it's very snug and the force of the outflow probably helps to keep it in the right direction.

Update: The Eheim reducer came and it fits snug as a bug. I highly doubt there will be any leaks but I'll keep my eyes on it.
