I don't know the details of your now past holiday but when I'm going away I also don't count the day I'm leaving and the day I'm returning because the fish can be fed on those days.
So if I leave on Sunday and come back Wednesday, they only went 2 days without food.
That is the nature of fishkeeping unfortunately 😅
There's plenty of knowledgeable people and information-rich archives on this forum though, I'm confident you could get a reliable answer to just about any question.
Not that many fish will be bred in this country to be honest, only by local...
Welcome Polly!
I also live in London and in my experience most fish are very adaptable (with a few exceptions).
Plecos, other catfish and Kuhli Loaches will be just fine in our tapwater.
One key thing is identifying the source of the fish you want to keep, if not the original location, the...
Sorry to hear that Alec! I think that's crazy they didn't use heat packs to ship livestock at this time of year! A bit of tin foil and newspaper wouldn't keep your dinner warm let alone live animals!
Another thing I've noticed some retailers fail to realise is that often the type of heat packs...
I don't think it matters too much.
I've successfully bred them in TDS 380+, with the pH ranging from 6.7-8. KH 14, GH through the roof.
I'm sure you could breed them in either of those parameters you suggested.
Definitely normal behaviour for pygmies. Mine spend more time mid water than on the substrate.
I did however notice they spent more time on the substrate when they were they only ones in the tank, but could be anecdotal.
Borellii would beat good option in my opinion. Small, peaceful and pretty.
I've got Macmasteri, Laetacara Curviceps and Dicrossus Filamentosus in a 120cm and any of those fish will look tiny in an 150cm. I don't think scale will be an issue!
I've only bought fish from there once but have had no issues, they're all alive and well.
I'm not suggesting people follow what I do but in the last 12 years I've never quarantined a fish or a plant and I'm yet to experience anything bad as a result of that. I could be just lucky!
Edit: Just...
I keep apistogramma Macmasteri (who regularly spawn) with Corydoras without any issue. As long as everyone has their space to retreat to.
I reckon a pair of apistogramma is the most you'll want in that size tank.
I would say if you plan to stock that many dwarf cichlids you need to put emphasis on creating territories. Even then, males can relentlessly chase each other and females can be equally territorial. It sounds like it wouldn't be 'enough' but I honestly wouldn't put more than 1 male for the...
Indeed! I kept Bolivian rams in a community tank and they never bothered the other fish, only themselves. Just casual bickering, nothing serious. Very pretty and massively underrated.
The electric blue acara may struggle to eat well with fast fish like SAE. They are not overly quick swimmers. I...
I keep Macmasteri in hard water and the female lays eggs. I'm yet to see any babies but she's been hidden in a cave for the last week so maybe it's possible! I've not had the female all that long either and she's still quite young.
They are truly awesome fish, and the one I kept got more and more comfortable with me over time. It went from hiding all the time to constantly being up front. It also didn't bother any fish in the scape.
I hope when I settle down to keep one long term.
That's slightly reassuring! I'm going to a fish shop tomorrow and was planning to ask them what the parameters were in their store tank. A lot of fish seem to be acclimated to similar water to your own if it's relatively close by. Unless they specifically use an RO system.
I'll see what they've...
Amazing! Thank you.
I think I can provide everything you have in terms of water parameters except the soft water 🙃 my TDS is about 360 from the tap and it's pretty much the same by the end of the week in the tank.
Do you think they're out of the question?
Hey everyone,
I'm interested to know if anyone has experience keeping glass catfish, particularly Kryptopterus Minor.
I see a lot of basic care information online but very little personal experiences. I especially like to hear from UKAPS members, and that's normally what I search for first...
Some amazing replies already! Just thought I'd add this one as I've kept them before; Electric Blue Acara. Very colourful, quite peaceful, doesn't destroy planted tanks and are not difficult to find or expensive. I had mine in a community tank.
I saw a video recently of Cory from Aquarium Co-op out in South America where Corydoras are found in the wild and he picked up handfuls of the substrate. It was literally like large jagged rocks, no smooth sand.
Gotcha! I wish I had enough rainwater. I change out nearly 200L of water every week so not practical for me lol.
Happy Birthday too! I'm also a February baby [emoji854]
I avoided getting Hydrocotyle Verticillata as it seemed like it was overly demanding but it seems to work for you without CO2! Anything in particular that keeps it healthy?
Hey guys,
Does anyone know the species of the angelfish in this video? It was sold to me as Melanotaenia Splendida Splendida but it doesn't look like one to me.
From the photos online it looks most like trifasciata or aru II.
Thanks for your help in advance.
