Very good, side by side to the 60p there isn't much if any difference in silicone work.
After a while though there is a noticeable difference in quality of glass with the ADA being clearer.
I've tried scrubbing with a sponge and RO, scraping with a razor blade while wet, limescale remover and a toothbrush to scrub and nothing works.....
Any ideas chaps?
We all know plants do not use co2 while they are "asleep" yes? So running 24/7 is just a waste, I really don't understand how me saying that factoring in this big ball of fire in the sky as a light source rather than only accounting for the light unit on the tank is so dismissed.....
The basic...
No offence Clove but I've not taken a wrong turn anywhere nor do I need to do a ph profile at this point, I do fully appreciate your experience and input but what I'm aiming to correct is my co2/light period nothing to do with lack of co2 during the lighting period, rather that infact the...
I've also thought that even basing co2 on 30ppm is only actually because livestock won't tolerate much more than that, we have far more than 30ppm in the atmosphere where plants thrive so it's a bit of a misconception that 30ppm is needed for the plants rather than it just being a maximum level...
I guess I'm just throwing the rule book out the window with my theory, I have no idea how much co2 I have in ppm I just know it's as high as the fish can take.
I've simply broken down the basics of that if a plant has enough light to wake up it should have co2, given the basic understanding...
I'll need to do a new one as I have re scaped since my last one, from what I remember based on the ph table I had over 100ppm which obviously isn't right but someone said the co2/ph profile was based on RO not tank water.
I think I have sort or cross posted with this and my other post, please see this thread for my theory https://www.ukaps.org/forum/threads/co2-2hr-rule-myth.52066/page-2#post-512329
So before I start let me just say I am not an experienced user of co2 and am also new to a co2 enriched planted tank, my thoughts are based on my own understanding from hours of reading and a lot of trial and error and will probably confuse the hell out of you with my dodgy explanation lol...
Does sound pretty similar Maple, it's just mulch like muck.
I get barely any algae on the glass now, I've left it for a few days to see how it goes and it's barely noticible yet hair algae keeps popping it's head up.
I just don't get it, tanks always look totally pristine from others but this...
I have been considering that the filter isn't turning over enough water, it's more matter than finer particles though so not a side affect of the filter.
I have alfagrog, the coarse sponge and floss in the canister.
I cleaned it earlier but I'll stir it up again tomorrow or Tuesday and grab...
It seems no matter how long I spend cleaning the tank each day it's never clean, I ruffle the plants daily and net/siphon out any debris etc but it's never ending.
I only have 6 cardinal tetra at the moment and barely feeding, it's just dirty. So much so it's really getting annoying now, the...
Yeah sure is, had a search of the forum after posting this and was just coming back to say it is Planaria.
Should have had a good search first, is there a way to delete threads? I was looking back over mine from the last few years and wow I've posted some rubbish lol
Having a close look at the tank and have spotted some tiny white worm thingys on the glass, at most the biggest are probably 5mm in length.
Can anyone give any possible ID and info on them?
There are no fish in the tank only plants and spiderwood.
Hard to focus on but you can just about make...
I only ordered my first co2 bits and bobs last week, I learned what I needed from reading on here and went with what fit my budget and quality requirements.
It's a lot less complicated than it all seems at first.
Thanks guys, I figured it best to give them a covering of boiling water to be safe so fallen leaves shouldn't be a problem.
I did think about breaking them up for scale too as you're totally right Zozo.
I'm wanting to get a good leaf litter to help with a biotope look, I'm not overly concerned about the beneficial factors such as catappa leaves have as the soil and wood should take care of most of that but more the asthectics so any will do.
I'm thinking of just heading off to the local...
Hey guys,
I see it is pretty common to do huge daily water changes on new tanks while going through the first few weeks, I'm pretty old school where you fill it and wait type thing.
So my question is, how does doing such big daily water changes affect the cycle?
What is the main reason it's...
Cheers guys,
Foxfish, when you say "was" normal to have 12hrs of light, what's "normal" now then?
I'm running on about 14hrs on average as it's a house tank not just my bit of fun lol but yesterday was closer to 16hrs when I noticed it had closed up.
Hi guys, just wondering why Rotala Wallichii opens and closes it's leaves while the light is on?
I figure it's because it had taken in all the nutrients etc it can so protects it's self or something but looking for a proper explanation of what's going on please.
After having to move my current tank I have realised I have the perfect place for a 4ft tank now, I'm having visions of a 4ft shallow tank after looking at a few shallow scapes.
I have a 120x45x20 in mind and would like to see what others have done with similar sized tanks.
I've been having a read and can't find anything that says if either makes a difference, I'm using ADA Amazonia and aware of a potential of high ammonia so considering to just flood start but looking for opinions please.
I know what they and the manufacture say about it but would like to hear from people that have had both optiwhite and that so can actually have a first hand account on if their is any noticeable difference between the two :)
Now my tank is really really clear but not optiwhite and I sit here wondering how it could be any clearer, then I see the NA tanks which they say are again superior to optiwhite...........
Can anyone confirm if NA is in fact clearer and can you even tell once you get to a certain point of...
Pmsl, all I saw was 3rd floor and thought of the weight on the floor up there lol
Don' worry I carried a 6x2x2 double base 12mm up to a 3rd floor with my little mate years ago and its not that bad, get some glass suction grips because when those hands start to sweat that is when you will be in...
I am doing the same thing comparing prices with tgm and AE, although I am choosing mainly 1-2 grow which are the same price it seems postage will be cheaper from AE. But AE do not have a couple of bits I want that tgm do but have some tgm do not so awkward to compare really for me anyway.
From all the tanks I have looked at and from experience of deeper tanks 2ft - 2.5ft I would not go higher than 45cm for a planted tank as anything higher leaves empty space and adds to the awkwardness of reaching in to plant.
Cant really call it a planted tank as it is a mess and has been neglected since pretty much September when I started marines lol There has been no light on it for the last 3 weeks only the room light and I stopped the diy co2 sometime a while ago that I can not remember lol
It was supposed to...
Anyone know of a difference in glass quality or silicone work between the TMC Signature range and the ADA?
The TMC 600x450x450 is £189.95 and the ADA Cube Garden £324.99
Quite a difference!!
Jeasous if I knew that my comment would kick this off I would of stayed quiet lol It was merely a comment of my opinion and reason for looking elsewhere for a ADA stockist.
So in reply to what I can remember of all the comments here goes lol
1, Money is not an issue, the retail of the tank is...
At the end of the day it is not about money or I would not of chosen those tanks, I choose those tanks because I like them not because they are cheap.
If that amount of money is nothing to them then they do not need if off me, as I said I will happily pay more to get them elsewhere now, the...
PMSL hmm ADA or Clearseal.......... hard choice lmfao
Their is a shop in Ireland cheaper at retail price than TGM for most of the ADA stuff they both stock  They all have their set mark ups so just depends if they want to do a deal or not and TGM obviously do not want to deal.
Does...
Wish I had looked for a stockist list before, there is one only half hour drive away and another that I know well although not been there in a couple of years in Ireland, so stuff TGM they have lost any possible future custom from me also.
Sent them an email asking if they would negotiate on the price of x8 ADA tanks ( £888 total ) and if they could arrange the drilling of a single hole in each and do you think they would.........nope, the drilling I was unsure of but thought they may offer a slight discount on the tanks.
If they...
As it stands it will be 3-4 months before the whole system is complete, first stage will be getting the sump and pipework in place which should be done this month
ahha yeah get ya, will get one tomorrow in the day when I get home. Just trying to get some pics of the cardinals in the small tank and they are a pain in the blahblahblahblah lol
lol, might help although just a standard glass tank really with black silicone blue back and weir lol It would be the glass tank only and nothing else for sale.
Thinking of selling my main tank ( tank only ) and getting a shorter 2ft high instead of 30" with clear silicone and optiwhite front I know at the end of the day it depends on what someone will pay but any idea of a rough figure it would be worth?
Glass is mint apart from 3-4 tiny scratches...
I'm sure you just want me to spend more money  TBH I am 99% decided on the cube garden 30-c now. I have seen so many set ups made with ADA tanks and the silicone work and clarity never fails to impress
Using their tank builder they actually come in £1 more on a 30x30x30 optiwhite and that is not inc delivery which the ADA from TGM does at £111........ will drop them an email and see what they can do on the price for x8 of them drilled.
It will be a shrimp breeding system but a good looking one, sort of 7 star accommodation lol some people have a 60" tv I want a tarty tank system lol
One system soft and the other hard water, each tank on a tap so can be cut off from the system if need be and run individually for what ever...
Just want it to look as nice as it can so when I look at it I am not thinking it could of been better. Planning on having the tanks sitting on toughened glass floating shelves 2 per shelf above my desk with the sump under my desk and the pipe work set in the wall with just the taps and drains...
This is the planned system, just need to decide on how to overflow will be done, as I said do not really fancy having ADA tanks drilled but will do if need be.
Will be 30x30 cubes so thinking 1" pipe work will be enough on a 1000lh pump ( 4 tanks per system )
4ft sump split in two, 86L each...
Will be along these lines, still looking at the design though to see where it can be improved.
Two systems side by side hard and soft for neocaridina and caridina with snails chucked in as well.
Will be x8 cube garden 30c ............ When I get the funds together anyway lol few months off yet. Going to set up a shrimp and snail breeding system but want it to actually look good as well as serve its purpose.
I think the basic term of everyone's answer is going to be "to much" but at the end of the day people spend what they can afford to spend when they want to buy something :)
My only saving grace is not having funds in paypal unless I sell something or my costs would sky rocket lol At the moment...
Anyone have or had both? what is the difference in glass quality/clarity like? what is the difference between clarity of a normal tank compared to either? is it really worth the extra £40 ish quid for the cube garden or is all all about the difference between one having Do!Aqua on the front on...
I think they fobbed you off......I have had refunds for broken items and items not as described but really not as described.
I think you are right and he could nit fit in it as I could not fit it how I wanted it so sold it lol needs a 6x3x3 to get it in properly or a braceless 4x3x3 lol
Paid via goods through paypal then the listing was ended, would not be so pissed if it was a few quid but it was £80 and cost me £10 to courier it to him, will be interesting to see what paypal say about this as he has opened the case for item not as described and goes on to say it is not...
It was listed on ebay but sold off ebay if you know what I mean directly via paypal, never had any live stock in the tank with it as decided to get rid of it and go with the current slate, guy is obviously a doughnut.
Doubt paypal would be interested in pics of dead fish and nitrate test as he...
To wipe out his tank the nitrates would need to be 150+, I have had tanks crammed solid with slimy wood and never had a problem. The guy obviously either feeds to much or does not do regular water changes or both and properly means nitrite not nitrate.
Just a quick google of "bogwood slime"...
Sold my big piece of wood to some guy a few weeks ago who has now opened a paypal claim claiming the wood has poisoned his tank!
As with most new and even old bits of wood he has said it has a slime on it, this is nothing to worry about but he reckens this has caused his nitrates to go through...
Thinking of doing my own backgrounds with photoshop but a plan printer would be needed for the 4ft and an a2 printer for the 2ft's to print them.........
I have decided I would like to try out a un filtered tank with my spare 2x12x15, I am already running the shrimp tank at room temp so not worried about that side of it as have done it before anyway.
After reading a couple of the journals ( think bucket of mud was one ) that was almost un...
I am thinking this would be suitable for:
Decor ( large amounts of wood/rock/substrate etc )
external filters
Small tanks ( under 3ft )
Light units
and so on that are generally collection only.
Had an idea that thought I would share,
As we are all in different parts of the country and with the recent request I was thinking perhaps some may be willing to collect local ( set distance maybe 2-3 miles ) items for others for say a % of the item value so it can then be shipped to the buyer...
Re: Just added another tank to the collection
A few years ago ( 10ish ) I had a 6x2x2 with custom made cabinet and x6 2x2x15 under it lol plus a couple of other tanks dotted about. Highly infectious lol work got in the way of those at that time so had to get rid of them, also had a 48x15x36...
Just won a clearseal 24x12x15 ( same size as the shrimp tank ) on fleabay for £20, hopefully collect it tonight! It will go on the right of the main tank so will have matching size tanks either side of the main tank, had to even it out lol
What to do with this one...........
The tank measurements are always of the outside and there will always be a difference between tank height and water level, my tank for example is "30 high but the water level is in fact about 26" from substrate.
It is only smaller braceless tanks that the water level is almost to the top as the...
