    Should i add GH/KH booster

It might be worth asking about this in the fertiliser section too, it gets more traffic than this section.

    Should i add GH/KH booster

I'd say try it and see, it wont do any harm and it sounds like it might just help. Snails and shrimp all use calcium from the water to build their shells. If you've got these in competition with your plants then you could be using up the allowance in your tap water. Personally mine is at...

    Cycling 4' tank, suspect results.

If you're using the API nitrIte test then be careful. The colour indicating 'WOW this is totally off my scale" is the same colour as "nope, you're fine there's none there". 2 ways to double check your nitrites really are 0ppm, the first, when you add the drops to the water there is no colour...

    Ammonia and nitrite levels

Can you check the flow on your filter, I had a mini spike a year or so ago when the pipe on my filter got a slight kink in it and the flow dropped. I would say you're heavily stocked for a young tank. It usually takes about 6 months for a bacteria colony to establish itself fully and during...

    Fouride in Tap Water?

We kept goldies with no problems! I had a friend who had a tropical tank but I don't know if it was RO water or not. I'll ask her next time I catch up with her. But there is surely someone on here who lives in a fluoride region and can tell us either way.

    Fouride in Tap Water?

Sorry, we did slightly go off topic there! As for the flouride, don't they already do this in some areas anyway. I know it used to be in my local water about 20 years ago (don't know when they stopped) and I thought that Birmingham did it still.

    Fouride in Tap Water?

With 50ppm you wouldn't need to dose nitrates that's for sure! You may find that you could do 50-50 tap water RO changes (giving about 25ppm nitrate). I'm not sure at what point the nitrates start to upset the fish/shrimps but once you know this you can work out your maximum ratios for water...
