    Nightmare Algae/Incubo alghe!

One of the reasons I don't like light coloured sand it discoloures quickly and reflects a lot of light attracting algae. Use darker coloured sand next time. Or mix it with darker sand.

    No worries.....The aquarium looks great!

Trying to ID root cause of Algae in Shallow. Potentially the light intensity?

Far too much light! Reduce the lighting as others have advised. Chop the DHG down to the substrate.....and let it re-grow! Siphon as much gunk of the top layer of the substrate as possible. Get some floating plants to act as a net curtain....a term Darrel uses.

Black algae in new setup :(

Hi @Sirkavu Purchase a whole load of fast-growing stem plants and throw them in the aquarium the more the better. There is a list here below.....you can also implement the suggestion within the Tutorial. https://www.ukaps.org/forum/threads/using-stem-plants-as-a-filtering-aid-at-start-up.62966/...

My planted tank water is brown and green!

(5a) If yes, eventually runs clear - then you know how many water changes you need to do in your main tank.
  7. GHNelson

Diatoms, green dust algae and melt...

I would purchase some floating plants like Pistia stratiotes or Amazon Frogbit.......these grow long roots and will collect floating particles of waste! The roots can be removed when saturated with gunk.

Diatoms, green dust algae and melt...

Hi @dIggO Remove 2 layers of Biohome....add the supplied sponges! Personally, I would reduce....the dosing by 50%....till you get the algae, bacteria bloom, and cycle issues sorted.
  11. GHNelson

Diatoms, green dust algae and melt...

I always found white sand causes problems... it's my opinion! The aquarium seems to be in a bacteria bloom.....therefore you need to change some water and get some mature filter media/sponges into the filter. Fine filter floss will help.

Diatoms, green dust algae and melt...

Remove 2kg and add sponges back.....Algae just loves water with a lot of fine detritus. Manually remove as much algae as possible using an old toothbrush. Add Floating plants/Fast-growing stems to the surface.....you must cover 70%. It is no coincidence that algae proliferate where...

    Nightmare Algae/Incubo alghe!

Hi Remove algae as much as possible, whenever you have time....you don't need to wait till water change day! Plants look healthier because they are under a canopy of other plants...plus there are enough light and fertilizers in the water column for decent growth.

What is this light brown, stringy algae?

Hi Sandra I would clean the filter, if you have Activated Carbon that will help to remove pollutants. You will need to remove the AC after about 4 weeks as it will leach the nasties back into the aquarium that you removed previously.

What is this light brown, stringy algae?

@SandraJ Fungus/Bacteria/Biofilm usually have a jelly type make up covering new wood in the aquarium. Usually whitish/opaque in colour.....snails will eat it. If the water is stinky I would remove the wood and give a good clean underneath and wash and scrub the wood in clean water! Do the...

  53. GHNelson

Is this BBA and what should I do?

Hi Paul I wouldn't use Liquid Carbon as it will probably destroy your plants if painted on! Its been a month or so since you had a re-vamp, therefore its basically a new set-up! When was the last time you cleaned the inside of the filter?
