Bleach won't do anything, just use one Oust sachet and add a little water in a cup (remove the rubber sucker) and leave to soak - you will see the lime scale start to bubble and dissolve straight the way, give it a couple of hours and then just rinse it well under the tap.... Job done :)
It's 100% lime scale - I get it on mine. I soak mine in Oust lime scale remover for kettles/irons.... 2 hrs in that and it's like new again. I normally do mine every two months or so.
Holly poop! That's big...!
Ali, you could charge admission when this is done for people to come and view your projects... I can see it now, not ADA but 'ANE' in neon lights (Alastairs Nature Exhibition)
Yes I've had mine in about 3 days now and i did my water change earlier... The tank glass hardly dirty this time?! Seems to be doing something :)
On a plus side, my Mrs loves it! She loves the mist underwater... I told her if I got the bigger tank I'm looking at, then we could have 2 running! ;)
A great idea George. I think mine was being featured in PFK with my old corner tank, I felt like a star and really proud (a tiny bit of fame lol) - it was great to meet Nathan & Neil from PFK too. I still enjoy getting that issue out and having a read :)
Another highlight is making some more...
Another option is to soften the harsh line of the two substrates - if it was me I'd plant something like Staurogyne rubescens along the the left & right border lines and then plant in more taking them back into the scape/rock areas... But less densely planted towards rocks, they look nice...
Ok, so without me trawling through all pages, can someone explain how the device works... As in: does it go on a timer? or is it just a press of a manual button once a day?
Yes I would say so Trevor... Your tanks similar to my very first corner tank then - you will only have 500mm to reach down now then with that in hand :)
Yes, I have used one loads of times on rock and even bits of wood  no problem at all.
PS, I did not tell the mrs I was using hers though!:rage:
Just take it to your local valet guys, im sure they will do it with the jet wash for £5 or £6... will be perfect then and you wont even get wet :) I have just jet washed all my seiryu stone and its come up as new:thumbup: although I did get VERY wet!
This is all very well and yes everyone will say that what they own is 'simply the best ever' but surely it's what you put inside that counts? I bought my TMC on recommendations from other members, the dimensions of it suited what I was after and considered that what I had beforehand it was a...
George is correct in thinking that the TMC 600x450x450 only come with black silicone as I found out, although it's no hardship as is so neat and very litle of it :)
I always put my water out the night before water change and preheat to 22 degrees with a couple of squirts of Prime just to be on the safe side - after all Prime lasts ages and its just not worth the risk without it.
I quite like this new invention... I see it removes all algae from plants and acts as a giant algae magnet - a great piece of kit that costs the EARTH! hmmmmm
This is nearly always due from plants, basically when they don't have enough nutrients and co2 - open top tanks are really no different to closed ones - yes a skimmer will help... but the plants are telling you that they are not happy. How do your plants look in general?
I changed the original media (ceramic) to a medium sized pea gravel instead... you need a larger gravel as the filter will drag in smaller bits and it will block. I think I placed a circle of the original media around the filter area and then added the pea gravel around that, I found this more...
I've just read on Facebook on Maidenhead Aquatics post news of this and one of the comments from someone is " I never knew events like this were on " .... I think that's the answer and problem rolled into one - a very bad marketing and advertising campaign! .... I mean, the biggest city, some of...
OMG! this is not a good idea :( - did they think that even if you if you were to keep fish in it that they may get trapped in the corrugated sides if it was raised and lowered?
I can't say too much on these myself as I've not used them, although I have to say what I have read about them they seem very popular - like Nath says, do do end up with more plants, but you have to grown um....
PS, just noticed, where are all the smileys/emotcons gone :(
I don't have an open top tank, but if I did and the DIY person that I am... I probably look at getting some sort off very thin stainless steal spike or bar, (say 9-12" long) and just put a small bend at each end - one to hang over the edge of the glass and the other end to skewer the...
Yes I tried to download the latest issue but it kept getting stuck at 46% - I tried deleting the app and re-installing it again, but it got stuck at the same 46%... I gave up in the end, good price though.
Yes a great day, much better as well having all the stands on the one floor rather than the 2 as last year - great to put faces to the names on here too
Same thoughts here, prices are higher, but with that you get a dedicated service and a good product. Like Ady says if you go instore its a setup that not many other places have to offer, plus lets not forget the cups of tea and cake they offer, amongst other things when events are held - even my...
If it was me I'd ask him if you could have the wood back.... So you can whack him over the head with it! Not that I'm a violent UKAPS member or anything like that
3 choices are better than 2  they look the Business in white as well! although looking at them on-line it looks like most places are only taking per-orders, as I think they were first on show at interpet a few months back
I use a tiny Ehiem pump with some 16/22 hose in a 60l barrel, I've connected up a couple of elbow joints to the pipe and then an old intake basket so it just hangs over the edge of my tank and into the water, I'll take a pic on my next water change to show you - I just drain water out, switch...
I normally use lemon juice that you add to pancakes - obviously clean them off the light and away from the tank, i just wipe them over with that and a kitchen tissue then wipe over with water.... should come up like new then
I used black board paint, wilkinsons finest, it's water based and with 2 light coats with a brush it's perfect! Let the 1st coat dry properly though or you will end up pulling it back off the glass on the 2nd coat!
I've found this really durable too once on and fully dry.
Yes this is an excellent forum and very well run - a big thanks to all the UKAPS admin, sponsors and all the members that help one another out
Yes I was in earlier and thought I had logged in the wrong site!
Do they really have nothing better to do - I did 'Ethical Hacking' on my exams... I'd love to trace them back and dump a load of poop back on their workstation...see how they like it.
George, can you explain to me how a drilled tank will connect up to an external filter.... i'm a bit of a beginner and still learning.
I have also been looking into a new tank, I have been looking at the new 'Phoenix' range coming into MA and they seem to be drilled - I suppose mainly...
I think mine dress up in black cotton wool and have a party, as they always seem to still have black fluffy bits attached to them in the morning when the lights come on!
This has been a good read so far and I see a big transformation happening from the 1st few pics - just shows what expert advice makes... keep at it
Has anyone managed to get hold of one of these 14l nano tanks that PFK are offering in this month’s issue - it’s a free offer with a new PFK subscription via Pets at Home and a collection only item.
They look quite cool, I have tried to get one though with my subscription and it seems not many...
