Hey Andy, have a look at the link below - this is the excellent displays that Aquajardin did for Aquatics live... Should be a good guide for you. Basically the same direction as you current flow, the koralia should give the standard flow a bit of a boost :)
Lido 120, Rio 125 and Rio 180...
No it should be whisper quiet, like Iain said, pipes touching the cabinet can cause a nasty hum.... If they are try padding them with a small bit of sponge (cut up foam is great) failing that are all the rubber feet on the filter? Try slightly tilting the filter an inch and see if it stops...
No problem mate, when I was short on space I just had my heater and pipe work sitting behind the FE... saves doing extra work then too.
I don't really think the position of the heater is to critical, although the arrow on the unit is more for safety and to warn of water maybe dripping down the...
I have had this issue before and the only way I got around it was on the outlet pipe as it leaves the filter, almost make an 'S' shape with the hose (without causing kinks) and have your heater off that - this will lower the filter in the cabinet. The only down side is that the outlet hose will...
Yes you might be right Nath, the 350T has a flow output at 1050l which should be enough for the TMC. I'm now trying to find out if the unit has 2 power leads though? One for the filter and another for the built in heater?
Yes I am thinking of getting one, I like the idea of the built in heater... I just wondered if anyone has had any hassle with it, I can't find any negatives on the internet... So a good thing I guess!
You will enjoy your Razor mate... Just remember they are ultra powerfull, I've turned mine...
Cheers Alastair, think I will get some and give it a go.
Thanks for that Darrel, and the links you have given me are a very good and interesting read! I've just about got my head around it :bookworm:
Does anyone know where I can purchase the G6 mechanical filter, the type that is supplied from new though - I did buy a replacement a few months back, but its like this papery gauze stuff if that makes sense?! the one that comes with the filter is more like a close mesh and that's the type I'm...
I normally soak mine in a 50/50 Milton and water for 24hrs, stirring occasionally (you will see it changing back to its white colour) then rinse and soak in a strong mix of declorinator and water for a further 24hrs then a final rinse in water.... Job done!
I've never had any issues with fish...
When I clean my filter (all the media) which is about every 4-6 months, I make sure I do all the pipes, along with inlet & outlets - if not I've found it can blow all the rubbish out the pipes etc when first switched on... I do try and clean the pipes every 6 weeks as well though.
This looks a good neat bit of kit, is the skimmer self adjusting to the water height? Also where did you get it from if you don't mind me asking.... A link would be great
This is how Aquajardin were running their Rio 180 at Aquatics live, just the standard filter boosted by a simple Koralia, it looked to be working a treat too:thumbup:
Have a search for Aquatics live 2012 photos and you will see the the 3 planted tanks that shows this.
This question is like a can of worms! I'm sure you will get allot of yes and no answers - my G6 now it's sorted is brilliant and I would not change it for anything else. Very easy for maintance and keeps my tank running great
So would the extra oxygen from a decent amount of surface movement help combat algae as well? As algae does not like lot of oxygen... Right? Or have I got that wrong? :?:
Just thought I'd ask a simple question... How many of you on here have your filter outlet or power head creating a ripple on the waters surface? Or any of you that have tank setups that just have a very still water surface?
I know some people set a good surface movement of water to help combat...
Cheers for that offer Iain, very kind of you
Seapets agreed to change this in the end and sent me out a new one, I just swapped over my media and fired it up and bingo 100% flow!
I've also noticed a massive difference in just how quite it is, so my original one must...
Well, i received my replacement impeller from Hagen yesterday and fitted it in and switched on to see a maximum flow of still 50%! which i was not very happy about.
After again trying numerous things I contacted Hagen again and was talked through various things to try of which...
No I've changed that for the spare one - I rang Hagen this morning and spoke to the same chap as last time about 2 months back he just said he would send me a replacement impeller straight out... No questions asked.
I also asked if there was a problem as I said that I did not want this...
Re: Thinking of getting a Fluval G6 - Impeller Cleaning?
Going back to March, I was sent a new impeller and everything was perfect 100% flow. It has been perfect ever since. I did notice today that it seemed slightly noisier and the flow had dropped slightly. I thought as it was such a nice day...
Thank you Ady & Chris for your excellent advice - I am going to call Seapets again this afternoon and hopefully get somewhere as regards to at least a new impeller unit, then try again. I dont want to drop my hobby as when its going ok its great and the nice comments I get when people come into...
Well today I phoned Seapets where I purchased my G6 from seven weeks ago to tell them my troubles and all of the things I have tried, pointing out very strongly that this is a very clean and well looked after unit and that I know what I'm doing. I was then told they could not do anything and to...
Yes you are right I will contact them and see what they say about it, as you say these are not cheap units and they should really offer the customer some sort of swap around service.
Thanks for your advice and help on this mate
Yes I think I will have to Ady, it's only 7wks old - I had it from Sea Pets as an online order. I just hope they don't ask me to return it before a replacement can be sent though as I don't fancy having no filtration on my tank :( besides half my media is from my old Ehiem which was nice an...
Re: Thinking of getting a Fluval G6 ..
This is good to know - where did you purchase the 2 rubber bushes from? I think I need to change mine as flow is displaying only half on the gauge again :( it did improve when I first swapped it for the spare thrust bearing though.
Everything is clean...
Hi guys, I just thought I'd let you know what was causing my low flow rate after I gave my G6 a clean. After lots of testing and scratching my head it seems it was the 'thrust bearing' (well I think that what it's called) its the little washer that comes as a spare - part of the impeller...
Thanks for all your advice guys, im going to have a look later and try and find out whats causing this... Looking at the impeller picture all seems as it should be.
I will post on here later what i find and the outcome.
Hi mate, yes all aligned correctly and the white flaps are all clicked in and alligned - the filter is spotless so no blockages... Flow is still reading about a quarter - no noise of air trapped either... So puzzled and VERY fed up
Now I'm confused??? My G6 has been running perfectly for the last couple of months with me regularly cleaning the mechanical cartridge (twice a week at water changes) and about 3 weeks ago I removed the carbon and put 2 bags of 100ml in - I've had 100% flow.
Tonight I thought it sounded a bit...
So, how long should the chemical cartridge last then? I'm thinking that when this is exhausted, just popping 2 bags of purigen in, but I don't want to chuck the cartridge out to quick...
I think it is a fantastic bit of kit! and to be honest worth every penny - I can't get over how easy it is to remove the cartridge for cleaning and future maintenance - I'd go as far as saying its the 'apple mac of filters' a quality product
I had a few queries as where to place the...
Hi Ady
Yes I will be setting it up this weekend, can't wait! I will also be starting my new journal up very shortly as well
PS, I was looking at you mini schnauzer photos you uploaded on here... Bowser looks great! I uploaded pics of ours just under him
I have only had chance to open the box up so far as work has been manic! so far though, wow! it looks lovely and build quality fantastic too! very impressed.
I will be setting it up on Saturday and I am going to go with George's recommendation of putting my inline diffuser on the inlet as I'll...
Cheers George
Thanks to everyone else as well for the advice & tips - I checked my delivery status earlier from work and its been delivered...yippeeeee!!! :D
Thanks for the advice so far - I am thinking of removing half of the G6's new media and just putting say half of my mature Eheim media in the G6, then in about 3 months remove the Eheim media and replace it with the rest of the remaining new G6 media.
Would this work or is it too risky this way?
Re: Thinking of getting a Fluval G6
I will be ordering my Fluval G6 tomorrow :) but I have a couple of questions before I use it...
My setup is that my existing Eheim 2075 has been running for around 14 months, so nice and mature... however the filter was transfered over to my new tank 3...
Re: Thinking of getting a Fluval G6
Thanks for that in depth analysis George, I really appreciate that and guess what, you have persuaded me to get one!
You have answered allot of my questions especially on Purigen etc. I have been looking around and most stores seem to be selling them at...
I'm thinking about taking the plunge and moving from my Eheim 2075 to the Fluval G6 - if anyone is running the G6 can you tell me can you add things like Purigen? is there compartments for things like this? from what I've been reading you have to buy all the media separate as well?
Any advice...
Ady, thanks very much for your info, that really helps. I am using an inline heater too and yes I am going for an iwagumi, substrate is really banked up and about and I'm really pleased with my rock layout.... Mind you I did have 3 days on and off of moving rocks about!
I did wonder if...
I am in the process off setting up a RIO 180 using an external filter as I have removed the internal one - does it matter if the diffuser and outlet pipes are at each end of the tank (opposite ends) using the existing rear cut outs or is it best to have them both together at one end of the tank...
That makes sense... Thanks for the advice, I have done that and all seems well so far - my new part should arrive tomorrow so hopefully a disaster avoided.
Has anybody else had any trouble with the tap units on Ehiems or know of any issues? This is now the 2nd one to fail on me.
Thanks for your reply Jim, I have no way of getting the filter running though as with the tap unit all broken there is no where to connect the hoses to bypass it? The hoses slide onto the tap unit and this then fits into the filter head.
Can anyone advise me on any precautions to take on my tank as my tap that controls my on/off on my Ehiem 2075 has just broke! Something inside sounded like it snapped as I went to turn it off earlier for some maintenance and left it stuck in the off position.
I have managed to get the part out...
How many of you use active carbon in an exterior filter? I have both purigen and carbon in mine at the moment, I am wondering if just more purigen maybe better for fert dozing and plants- would the carbon be stripping many of the needed plant nutrients out of the water?
Thanks for that, I forgot to mention, pipe cleans are done every 5-6wks.
I also get very concerned that when I do have all the media trays out and rinsing, that bacteria would die off quickly open to the air? So after about 20 minutes or so, I begin to flap! my Mrs recons I am like a Mad...
I have been running my Eheim 2075 for almost 9 months now and I would like to get a few Maintenance/tips... back to basics really. When I first installed the filter it was just setup and I have been cleaning as i think is correct, but I really have no idea what everything does!
Being fairly new...
Really? I know it says different from how I have mine at the moment to the picture on the box - just that I was told by where I had the filter from to have the balls at the bottom - what difference do you think it would make? if I were to swap them around now, could it affect anything do you...
So do you leave all the black plastic noodles in the trays then?
I have the round ceramic balls at the bottom, then the flat square ceramics in the tray above, then black plastic noodles with a bag of purigen, then in the last tray (top) the rest of the black plastic noodles with a bag of...
Hello everyone! i have just taken delivery of the 2075, can anyone advise me in what order you lay your trays of media in? I ask as I am fairly new to this - do I just go as per instructions? or swap them about?
Ideas of what you use as tray orders and where to put carbon, Purigen etc...
