    Insularium - Exclusive first sight

Hi all, I've had to take a step back from the Insularium project, as I have other priorities. Apologies for the lack of updates on this. Cheers, George

    Insularium - Exclusive first sight

Hi Jeff. Insularium is the brand name for a range of products for this concept. The concept of emergent growth is not new, but there's not been an easy to use and inexpensive product line specifically designed around this terrestrial and marsh plant growth... Until now. ADA have the wabi kusa...

Yes, like foxfish says, the water is essential!

Dry Start Method questions and advice

I'd try to get around 24C or so. As long as its a bit warmer than the ambient temp to encourage humidity you should be ok. Just not too warm i.e. over 28C especially with mosses. Good luck. I'm going to do the same soon for attaching moss, but I'm not bothering with any other plants using DSM.

Lots of Dry Start Method questions!

Thanks, Martyn and Darrel. Darrel - so would you advocate the use of a heat mat to promote humidity for the mosses? Very interesting to hear about high light potentially causing issue. I was considering lowering the lights nearer the tank but don't think I will... It seems the combination of...

Lots of Dry Start Method questions!

Hi Tim, Thanks. :) Good question! This wood seems to sink really easily; just a day or so submerged and it sinks. Much of it is actually partially buried in the substrate, or held in position with the rocks, so I'm hopeful that it will stay down when I eventually fill with water. If it...

Lots of Dry Start Method questions!

Hi Darrel Thanks very much for your input. I was hoping you would reply in this thread. :) I'll try using the 1-2-Grow jelly to attached the mosses. I never even considered that before! I never realised you could have too much light for the mosses. What's the idea behind the green plastic...

Lots of Dry Start Method questions!

This set-up is for me and my own hobby. Like a reward for all my hard work over the years! But I'm happy to see it published if folk want to use it further down the line. To be perfectly honest, I'm just really enjoying sharing the whole process with you guys and not have the pressure of...

Lots of Dry Start Method questions!

Hi Nathaneil, Thanks for the glass info. I'm more than happy to strip this down and start from scratch. I'm a bit weird like that! Besides I could do with some decent step-by-step photos of how I assembled the hardscape etc. Also the good thing about pre-soaking the soil out of the tank is...

Lots of Dry Start Method questions!

Hi guys, Thanks so much to you all for the comprehensive answers and feedback. :) I did suspect there would be conflicting advice, but this is fine, as it hopefully means I have more room for error! I have also been doing a lot of reading elsewhere too, and it seems a common theme is ensuring...

Lots of Dry Start Method questions!

Hi all, Some of you may be aware I'm setting up a new tank. Journal here - George's TMC Signature - The Hardscape Chapter | UK Aquatic Plant Society manzi situ by George Farmer, on Flickr I'm really interested in trying out the dry start method (DSM), as discussed a few years ago by Tom Barr...

Very cool! What's the set-up mate? Lighting, humidity control etc?

    ID this for me please?

Which means it probably will given decent CO2 etc. Nice find, BTW!

    Aponogeton crispus 'Red' flower

I've just discovered that this is a flower from my A. crispus - not E. 'Rubin'. I never bothered to trace the flower stalk - "assume" makes an "ass" out of "u" and "me"... Thanks to Bully, an admin over on the PFK forum. [BIT EMBARRASSED]...

    Aponogeton crispus 'Red' flower

    Aponogeton crispus 'Red' flower

I came home from a week away to a nice surprise. The Aponogeton had flowered in my 240 litre jungle. Except submerse Anubias barteri, this is the only flowering I've had, so I was quite chuffed! Aponogeton crispus 'Red' flower by George Farmer, on Flickr Aponogeton crispus 'Red' flower by...

    Anubias - how humid?

How humid do you need to keep Anubias? I'm setting up a new open topped 120cm tank and am considering having Anubias barteri var. barteri protruding from the surface. Will I need to spray it daily, or will it be ok just left exposed? Cheers.
