Nutrient Rich Substrate that sand can go on top off

Damn that about Tropica plant base,I've just ordered a bag!!I've currently got a tank running 100% sand that everything except swords and crypts does well in,I target the roots of these with api root tabs in this tank (Argos playsand). In my 125,I have a layer of laterite (never clouds when...

    Cory safe substrate

I'm setting up another tank and had lots of advice on substrate.I'd decided on eco-complete,but after buying some panda cories and seeing JUST HOW MUCH THEY LOVE the sand,I ordered a bag of tahitian moonsand. So I have eco-complete piled up at the back and sides for planting, and quite a...

    calculating amount of needed substrate

You multiply kilos by 2.2 to get pounds,or divide pounds by 2.2 to get kilos.

    AS Powder

Hmm,I was looking at the black flourite sand on the AE site.It says that the diameter is roughly 3mm.That doesn't strike me as being very fine.

    AS Powder

Have you seen the Tahitian Moon sand?I'm considering it as a foreground, for the fishes that like to rake.I'd love to hear anyone's experience.(It's black btw,to go with my eco-complete).

    non-clouding substrate

Have you looked at eco complete? It's not supposed to cloud the water.I've just received my 1st bag and it has a surprisingly soil like texture, quite gritty though. I'd also like a few cories,so thought I'd maybe top of the front section with a small bag of black sand.

    Help please,worried about substrate.

Actually,I saw that thread and it looks great.I think you may have made my mind up for me.Wish I could go for that guy in Aberdeens eco,but no go at the mo.I'm almost positive Dobbies did this stuff so can buy a bag every now and again till I'm past Xmas.Hmm,I can see Santa bringing me some...

    Help please,worried about substrate.

Aaahaa!!!Totally gotcha!!Thanks for that.In my case,my laterite will replace the power sand, then add the aquasoil, then like you say, your choice of finish at the foreground. Thanks so much for that.Numpty point one sorted. Now I just have to buy the stuff  See yous for planting questions in...

    Help please,worried about substrate.

Thanks Steve,it's really good to get this basic advice as you don't get it off the sites before you actually buy the products. That's good to know,as I guess the majority of my planting will be to the rear coming round a bit at the front in a sort of horseshoe shape. From your last post, are you...

    Help please,worried about substrate.

Vauxhall, thanks for that.I need to slow down, and you're bang on.I'll just need to put the gas at a peep. Ed,I am seiously considering aquasoil,as Vauxhall said, even if I just buy a bag every couple of weeks. So,my laterite should be on it's way,so it's going in regardless,ok to put aquasoil on...

    Help please,worried about substrate.

Thanks for the replies guys.I'm really not going to even take a chance with this stuff now.At this rate it's going to be 09 before there's any fish in there :( Might as well do it right from the start though eh?

    Help please,worried about substrate.

Uggh, don't know if I'm prepared to take a chance on that then.I'm going for angels so I guess I'll need soft water 9water up here is naturally soft anyway but I don't want to add something that's going to adversely affect it). Oh well, back to the drawing board, any suggestions?Cheap...

    Help please,worried about substrate.

Hi all, slowly gathering stuff together to set up my tank.I've got a bag of laterite on the way which I'm happy with.But...was at Dobbies at the weekend, and after looking at the price of aquarium gravel, wow, well I went to the garden centre and bought a 25kg bag of grit. Now on the bag it says it...
