    The Importance of GH Booster.

Yep, ya lost me there too. To much info for me. Interesting, but to much science for me...... I believe this situation with a constant yellow drop checker confuses many people and they often get unduly worried. The long and short of your situation though Dave, is, if your in a soft water...

    The Importance of GH Booster.

Interesting Dave, nice thread. Ive never heard of this problem before. But then I guess I am only ust to either hardish water or remineralising RO. When doing that, I have to test the GH and KH so I know whats going on. I know of another chap who doses extra GH booster ( Sera stuff ) to his...

Re: Algae ID I have seen this 1st hand before and its not algae, its a form of riccia, dark and brittle and very hard to get rid of.

    New Setup Algae taking hold

Hi Mark. If the plants arnt moving then perhaps some ferts are needed. Though with using AS Amazonia, I would only be looking to add some trace, but depending on growth some N and P could be added. If your not using tap water, which is notoriously high in P, then think about adding some 'big'...

Spirogyra only in one place - flow issue?

I did the "black out" thing for 5 days and its all gone. Its still only early days after the black out, but as Clive has said, low light and lean dosing until the plants get back up to scratch should sort it. Now you have been attacking it, it will be all over the place. Good luck.

    Green mist of death.

Being by the window even if you are doing all you can to deflect the light will be aggravation the situation. Ive found filter-wool does a good job of mopping up green water as well as a UV. There is to much light for what your doing there. Cut that down to 7 hours tops. You can work back from...

    Green mist of death.

How long is your lights on for? Is the aquarium near a window? A few more plants will help, but I suspect your over cooking it with your lights or natural light. Get your lights on a timer and no longer than 6-7 hours given the plants you have chosen, that should help. Cheers.

What causes green spot algae, hair algae and some causes....

Nice 8) And in normal man speak to, thanks. I know growing plants and not growing algae is not as complicated as it may seem, but so many people make it complicated. You have answered that question well, and it has not gone above me, which is often the case when chemical talk, NHO3 etc etc...

What causes green spot algae, hair algae and some causes....

Why should simply raising Co2 ppm have such a huge impact on the production of algae or lack of? Is it down to plant growth - plants start growing harder, so thus out compete with the algae? Is it as simple as that? What if you crank your Co2 up, but have a low bio mass. Are you not worried...

What causes green spot algae, hair algae and some causes....

Thanks George mate..... I know all that, but i thought there might of been poticular triggers. Like for spot aglae being down to low phosphats? I never have any problems on my own tanks, but have found with working at TGM there are many people who do, so its nice to hear how and why people get...

What causes green spot algae, hair algae and some causes....

Hi all, Very quick one. Could any one tell me the reasons for green spot algae? Another one is hair algae, the type thats really quite slimy and looks very soft and almost cloudy when it gathers in big areas. And the last is a tough, almost pubic hair ( sorry if your having your breakfast )...
