    Anubias melt !

I maintain it is some kind of bacterial or fungal blight........ From were or why, who knows. Could be over breeding of the same plant, nursery techniques. Skilled terrestrial plant growers have problems with diseases and blights despite providing everything the plant requires, so its not far...

Hi, Looks like Heteranthera Zosterifolia. A rapid plant which needs a lot of trimming to keep it looking its best. Great for new set up to clear out excess nutrients. Cheers.

    Nymphea Stellata

Yup, that's what I've done in the past. Don't go putting it 3ft down a hole, just enough so as to hold it in place. Cheers

    Nymphea Stellata

Keep the crown just below the surface of the substrate, only a matter of millimeters. They like plenty of root food. Root tabs with N an P in work really well. Also in soil based substrates, or very old, mulm rich substrates work very well for this plant too. Prune to keep it bushy with...

    What is this plant?

Mr Amano uses a plant alot in his scapes that's native to Japan. I can't recall the exact first part of the name. You will find it in nature aquarium world, book 2. Something like Esoetes Japonica.

    Low Light plants for Iwagumi

Welcome to the Forum rohitsingh_81 ( thats not an easy nick name to remember  ) It is perfectly possible to do a great iwagumi in low light/low-tech. E.Parvula, Pogostemon Heferi, valis. You can even use moss as a fourgound/cover plant. Easy Carbo will help no end, and adding...

    Collect yor own

There is no great harm in doing so. As long as you respect the area it comes from and not make a mess doing so, then it is fine. Its also fine to introduce them to your tank, though you might find a few critters hitch hiking into your tank. They are not dangerous, but some may say they look...

Aquatic Lichen - any such thing?

I took one pebble off him to see if we could get rid of it. Andy loves it, but it takes over and covers all his rocks. Just think how annoying it would be to have great looking rock turn red! Thats why I wanted to see if I could get rid of it. Cheers.

Aquatic Lichen - any such thing?

Actually I have seen an aquatic lichen. Its red and virtually flat. Andy at The Greenmachine has some in his tank. A friend of his passed it to him, and now he can never get rid of it. I took a sample in a jar and killed it with easy carbo, so it is disposable. From what Andy tells me, it gets...

    Welsh Plant ID

Sexy little plant. We have some lovely aquatic plants in the UK. The hardest thing is the temperatures for us. Perhaps a green house native set up would be cool to see. Love the enthusiasm Tom. Isn't nature just brilliant.

    strange plant....again. ID needed.

Its strange that its flowering under the water. Ive seen many aquatic plants flowers, but all have been emerged apart from the likes of Anubias. Hydroctyl flowers are very unassuming, tiny bladder like fronds with the smallest amount of yellow you ever did see.It certainly looks like that to...

    Anubias melt !

There is a bacteria that effects Anubias - Casuing it to rot and melt from the oldest end. Its seems a few people have had this problem recently. It could be the water at this time of year, maybe theres a bacteria present in the winter months. But my understanding is the plant is affected. Cut...

    Crypt Wendetti

How long have you had the plant in your tank? Was it from emerged or submersed? If its new to you and it has been an immersed plant. Then this is very normal. Nothing to panic about. Prune out the leaves that are effected. Over a short period, you will have removed all non aquatic leafs, in...

nana petite doesnt like direct light. Its also, very, very, very slow growing. You would need a fair bit to cover the same size patch, or patience of a saint. Good luck with it.

    growing rotala macrandra

This in my experience is a slow to moderate grower. Clearly loves the strong intense light. Not a plant to self propagate fast enough for some growers. Give it what you've got and see how it does for you.

    Nuphar Japonicum (Red Spatterdock)

Not heard of the red, but I grow the green. This is the 1st time ive used it, and not many people I speak to have ever seen it, so info is sparse. Mine is in ADA Malaya, KH3 GH3, Co2, full hit. Its huge at around 60cm tall, with each leaf being the size of an A5 pad of paper. Stunning plant...

To Prune or Not to Prune?

The best option all round for your tank and plant is to remove the bad leaves in-situ. You risk algae blooms and further damage to the plant buy uprooting it. Prune the plant as low as you possibly can...dont be scared. Cheers.

    blyxa changing colour?flowering???

Yup, looks like a happy helathy plant. The flowers a not much to look at and are underwater flowers. Ive found that when it flowers, the plant is usualy at optimum/full hight.

    ceratopteris thalictroides

It isn't actually a stem plant, it growth like a rosette plant, but rolls its new leaves out like bracken or ferns. It also works well as a floating plant. One of my fav plants, great for low teck/lowlight tanks, but can look awesome in high ligh set ups. CHeers.

Bring your HD camcorder Andy, perhaps we could come up with a funky vid of bones of the earth ( Thats my aquatrium, not what some of you might be thinking  ). The tank looks its best on fridays just afert a water change etc. Boh!

    Glossostigma elatinoides question

    Glossostigma elatinoides question

Ive grown it under moderate light ( 78W over a 3 footer ( 2 T5's ) - 45 cm deep - still 2.5W per US gallon ) tank. It was growing flat and healthy even where it was over shadowed. I did hammer the Co2 in though. That was grown in Unipac Zambezi and Tropica substrate. You shouldn't have any...

    Aquatic plants in CA

We have the same plant over here...Ive seen it many a time.....I forget the name though.... Im not sure if its endemic, but we do have it here...In fact we have some lovely aquatic plants here, some resembling many of what we might see in our aquariums, but obviously with differnet demands.

    Echinodorus osiris

Your assupmtion would be right. If it gets to the surface you may see some nice white flowers, otherwise, you will have small Osiris plantlet along the length of the stem.

Hello Murphy. The first plant is Cabomba caroliniana and the second is Ceratopteris thalictroides. Im not a fan of Cabomba, but i really like the Ceratopteris. 40. Graeme Edwards

Pogostemon Helferi - New growth is white

My understanding of white growth on what would be the new plant tips, is a micro defficiancy. Plants can access macros from other parts of its self with relative ease, where as with micro, it can only acces that as it grows from either the water colum or the substrate. So if the tips ( new...

Pogostemon Helferi - New growth is white

Try adding some Tropica nutrition, the normal stuff, the brown bottle. Trols form Tropica told me its hight in trace and Ion,this might help you out too! The scape looks pormicing Steve. Influanced by the latest ADA resaults? What substrate is in there? Is it the Lim Popo from Unicpac?
  42. Graeme Edwards

Pogostemon Helferi - New growth is white

Hi Steve, It sounds like a micro nutriant deficiancy. The new growth that is white and the rest being green sugests thats the problem IMO. Try adding some Tropica tablets under the PH or just alter your dosing. What are you using to firt your plants? Cheers.
  43. Graeme Edwards

    Ech tenellus changing colour!

Thats very normal. Usualy means its getting plenty of light. Just look at the red sp of aquatic plants. The redish pigment is to protect the plant, but its a nice trade off for us!!! Enjoy it dude! 8)
  44. Graeme Edwards

    Bolbitis heudelotii

I have some of this too. Its like your java ferns really. The really old leaves are not as efficient as the newer ones, they just get past it. Cut them off when they get like that. Your plant will thank you for it, being a stronger and fuller plant. Same applies for other fern sp. Cheers.
  45. Graeme Edwards

Tropica's new plant is now on their website.
