I'm seeing reports come through Twitter regarding Amano...can anyone confirm?
This is what I've got...
http://www.niigata-nippo.co.jp/sp/news/national/20150806197631.html
If so RIP Amano, you've been an inspiration to many.
I heard he dropped his 80s soda stream in his massive tank, and couldn't be assed to get it out and his minions had to dive in and make him fizzy water everyday, and that's how his amaze tanks were born. Before that they were rubbish.
That's what I've heard anyways.
Yes mate, you need the mms rail to hang the aquabar from.
If I was starting out in the planted hobby, I certainly wouldn't advise someone to get the 1500 without a controller. People have found that the tiles let off a high pitched whistle when using the tile at less than 100%. When the tile...
Can I suggest that if you're going with the tile and the mountaray bracket, that you get some practice first...this gives a lot of light. I would suggest you go with the new aquabars if you are using brackets. If you're using a suspension fitting then it's a little different.
All this messing with c02 WILL result in bba...just be very careful messing with it, as Clive states, if it ain't broke don't fix it.
I'm going to let you into a little secret now. I have never used a drop checker as I couldn't read them very well, as I do have a little colour blindness. I...
^^^ as the above, however! the way round it is just submit a different pic on the web to the one you submit on a forum! fb etc etc.
Even if the fish are in a different place to the other pic, it doesn't matter.
Anglian water do this from time to time...if your doing water changes at this time, the only thing I can advise is to get a barrel of ro water from your lfs. If this isn't possible, do a big water change before they flush the pipes.
I don't have anymore details of the tank. It was put on the aquatic gardeners association Facebook page.
And Darren I agree, it looks like a marine tank, but better! My guess is shed loads of light with a high plant mass = winner.
That might feature in next years, I spoke to George before setting this one up and we decided to keep the categories low as it may become to immense to deal with. Next year I may run a thread regarding categories. Let's see how this one pans out.
A few members asked about this, so we've got together with a few categories for you to vote in. Please do not vote in this thread...send your nominations to me via pm, and we will tally them and let you know the winners next Sunday night.
The ukaps awards are as follows.
Best aquascape done...
It's been quite a year for me tbh...I got to visit Tropica in Denmark and start doing a few scapes for them. This is an aquascapers dream! I also got to meet some great friends in the aquascaping world. It's really strange as were all from different backgrounds, but we all share the same hobby...
And just think those mobile phones give you tumours...
I'm also still sitting on the fence with these, fair do's if people want them, it's their money. Just think you could rescape a tank for the money.
As said there really isn't much between them, the actual tanks are the same in quality. They really are. The cabinet on the other hand...the NA cabinets are probably the best, then ADA and then TMC. But for £100 for a cabinet you can't go wrong IMO. We don't sit and look at the cabinet do we?
Ime there's not much difference in the quality, I know I own the signature, but having seen the 60p and stand in real life the only thing slightly better is the stand you'll get with the 60p. The tank isn't much different though, the silicone on them both are about the same. The signature is a...
So, is it actually a purifier/ozone? If so you'd need to be careful of the amount of time it needs to be on or you'll have dead fish. Have you been doing less water changes Viktor?
If it is ozone, the reefers have been using these for quite sometime.
I don't see the point of trying to 'call out' someone on an open forum, this can be done via pm or other means. We all have choices in life, and whether we/you decide to take said advice on the matter us up to you. We know Tom and Clive offer some great advice on this forum, as do others. Trying...
Cheers for that mate!
@ Tom, thanks mate, but ill give glass cutting a miss, it might be a hobby I enjoy if I start doing it.
*goes off to join a glass cutting forum.
I'm not drilling glass...especially on a spare bar. It's not worth the hassle. Knowing my luck with glass itll shatter into my fingers. Ill just post it to Miranda lol.
So, it needs to be on for the length of time that the light is on? If so, that's gonna be one misty tank, if your running c02 also. That's also an interesting read, I'm still trying to work out regarding the mg etc etc. are you going to have to constantly dose ferts if its breaking them down...
Anyone will market anything if you pay them enough...
I really can't get my head around how it would work though, we know that ammonia and light cause algae, how does this impact on that? We know that lack of C02 exacerbate algae, how does this impact on that? I can't rationally see how it...
I don't understand how it would work, there's just no point to it. There are easier ways to oxygenate you tank, the cheapest way is to raise your outlet a little...
I'm not sure how serious charges would be, there's no end of false claims in this game, anyone cycled a filter in 24 hours? I can...
Run one of these overnight, you'll never suffer it again.
Ehiem micro skimmer 350 review. | UK Aquatic Plant Society
I think we all get scum from time to time, I'm not a believer it's due to the plants suffering. I think it's just a waste product of sweet C02.
As said by George, this has nothing to do with pfk. It goes a little further than that. The are plenty of other ways that people can advertise successfully.
Please don't make me lock this thread.
Breaking news - no Aquatics Live 2013 | News | Practical Fishkeeping
This is a real shame, ukaps had a hand in aquatics live. It's a real pity that the uk can't produce a show like the do all over Europe.
I still think making it more central would be the best idea for an aquatics show.
Guppies are not the fish they used to be when it comes to a fish in cycle, they are one of the weakest fish on the market now.
I have to agree with foxfish, there's no point in spending shed loads on plants for it to fail on that side. What others do is to do you layout and plant as you would...
That looks like an emmersed echinodorus leaf to me. These leaves do eventually die as they can't revert to underwater living. The old leaves need to be trimmed. Trim from the base of the plant. You'll soon get new leaves.
It doesn't normally attach to substrate and wood. Stick a pic up mark, as above, if it is from the redmoor, don't worry. If its anything else we might be able to advise.
Sorry, I just want to clarify regarding the lowering statement (as I made it)...in hard water it will remove some nasties from the water, and lower tds slightly. What I meant to say was it helps to keep you tds in check due to removing the organic wastes which would normally add to tds.
Two...
It has an affinity to organic waste and leaves inorganic stuff alone, so it doesn't impact on EI dosing or any other dosing. Saying that, you can't 100% rely o it and must keep on top of the water changes (in a high tech tank).
This is from past personal experience, and floss after a week or two can cut the flow by a third at least. In a high tech tank this can have bad effects on the distribution of c02 around the tank, people end up with bba as a common side effect of this.
In a low tech tank it's a little...
