Auto Dosing EI with a dosing pump (diagram and calculations)

Remember that the bottle has to be set up above the tank as it a gravity fed system. James

Auto Dosing EI with a dosing pump (diagram and calculations)

Now that I've been using the SP3000 for a while I've come to the conclusion it is a load of rubbish. The solution keeps running back into the bottle all the time which is pretty poor imho. The way to get around this is to install a non-return valve for liquids or place the dosing bottle at the...

Auto Dosing EI with a dosing pump (diagram and calculations)

Fluidsensor's trace mix uses EDTA as chelator which works fine with the all in one solution and also best in soft water. I'm curently using a HEEDTA chelated trace mix which seems to have issues with either the ascorbic acid or potassium sorbate, so have gone back to the more traditional...

Auto Dosing EI with a dosing pump (diagram and calculations)

Here are my thoughts. It was me that brought Clark's SP3000 off him and I find it works faultlessly. Because I now use a different trace I'm no longer able to use my all in one solution so have two pumps, one for the traces and one for the macros. Don't use a non return valve that is designed...

    UV?

If you dose traces (micros) then one of the components is iron that is complexed in a chelator like Iron-EDTA. This is done as free iron is very reactive and will react with many things in the water making it unavailable for the plants. UV breaks the Iron-EDTA bond freeing the iron. A lot...

    UV?

Using one may lead to an iron deficiency due to the iron chelate breaking down. James

Great stuff. I'm still using mine with great success and wouldn't be without it now. James

    Budget Dosing Pump Idea?

Should work a treat. Do you have any pricing details of those pumps and where they can be purchased? Out of interest the peristaltic pump I brought which I detailed here - http://ukaps.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=5024&start=30#p56711 is a spare part for a dishwasher as well. James

Auto Dosing EI with a dosing pump (diagram and calculations)

Pump uses 150mA. The power adapter I have is 400mA so no probs there. I used to work in a chemical lab and when the site was closed down many years ago we were allowed to take home what we wanted. I used to go home every night with a car load of stuff, which is where the tubing came from. A...

Auto Dosing EI with a dosing pump (diagram and calculations)

The peristaltic pump 24V DC nutrient dosing water pump I ordered off ebay has arrived and first impressions are very good. Was sent by FedEx and was superbly packaged. Seems to have a good strong motor and is robustly built. It is 6cm x 6cm x 8cm approx in size. As discussed earlier the white...

Auto Dosing EI with a dosing pump (diagram and calculations)

I would take that to mean the two connectors on the tubing aren't included but the tubing is. I'll find out soon hopefully. James

Auto Dosing EI with a dosing pump (diagram and calculations)

The pump tubing is included with the pump so all you need is the air line tubing to attach to it. Once it perishes then it should be fairly easy to get some replacement tubing. I used to work with peristaltic pumps for years and have quite a bit of tubing at home, bit I think it may be the...

Auto Dosing EI with a dosing pump (diagram and calculations)

That's very true. I think you were very lucky to get it at the price you did though. Looking on ebay they are £50 plus. Still I'm happy as I've got all the other parts needed. Once I get it up and running I'll post up here what I think of it. James

Auto Dosing EI with a dosing pump (diagram and calculations)

Decided to give this auto dosing a go. Had my eye out for a peristaltic pump for some time now but have always been a tad expensive. Just brought this peristaltic pump 24V DC nutrient dosing water pump which looks like it will do the job. I've got a 24V DC adapter and a digital timer as well...

Auto Dosing EI with a dosing pump (diagram and calculations)

Potassium sorbate is perfectly safe with your shrimp and everything else as well. Just look at the ingredients of a lot of the things you eat and you will see it. But if you choose to omit it and you don't get any mould problems then great. There are many anti-mould agents of which some may not...

DIY Project DIY Reactor - pictures, assembly and testing

I've just got an old Eheim 2028 Pro II on mine. Pump output is 1050 lph and filter circulation is 750lph. James

DIY Project DIY Reactor - pictures, assembly and testing

I seem to remember having this conversation before. The Aquamas reactors work really well if you have a decent flow going through them. I have no problem getting a bright yellow drop checker on my 200 litre tank just by turning the bubble rate up a bit. The green filter type material is required...

DIY Project Repairing a faulty Arcadia Luminaire

Remove the 8 screws, 4 at each end. Carefully remove the reflector which just clips in to the front and back sections. The front and back section will then unclip from the central section. You'll then be at the stage that are shown in the photo's above. James

SUCCESS :D :D :D New ballast arrived today and is almost identical to the faulty one. Took about two minutes to install and all is now working. James

Yep, wires are push fit but the ballast has two screws, one at each end, holding it in place which makes life a doddle. James

DIY Project Repairing a faulty Arcadia Luminaire

I have a 120cm Arcadia Luminaire which holds 4x 54W T5 tubes, two banks of two switched independently. The other day much to my sadness one of the banks stopped working so is now only running on half power. I've removed the luminaire and hooked up some old T8's for the time being. As there is...

    Another DIY reactor.

It could be, but then the CO2 inlet would be at the top. It needs to be at the bottom so that the CO2 bubbles rise against the flow of water. James
  23. JamesC

    Another DIY reactor.

Looks great except for one thing. The CO2 inlet needs to be in the upright tube. Where you've got it now in the water outlet it will just go with the water flow along your tubing to the tank. James

    Building an ADA style cabinet

Some more info in Jason Baliban's original thread if anyone's interested - http://www.aquaticplantcentral.com/forumapc/do-yourself-aquarium-projects/40809-building-ada.html James

Any one have any experiance with this?

A little tip for you. What you need to do is get the holes as close as possible together. What makes the CO2 bubbles really small is the fine bit of plastic impellor between the holes which acts like a blade cutting the bubbles. James

My new gadget - a surface skimmer

This is one of the main reasons I brought it. The surface now is like a mirror. Yes the inlet is replaced with the skimmer. I'm using 16mm tubing with my eheim 2028 and it fits on to the skimmer just fine. James

My new gadget - a surface skimmer

Had another go at trying to get it to work tonight and managed to do it in about ten seconds. When I tried it before I don't think I had enough air trapped below the strainer. Now that I've got it running correctly it does work very well indeed and money well spent I think as it keeps the water...

My new gadget - a surface skimmer

I seem to have had this surface scum for a little while now which I couldn't seem able to shift. I was also sure that it was also causing problems with low O2 levels in the tank due to little gaseous exchange at the water surface. Did a bit of hunting around and ended up buying a surface skimmer...
