    Who's tried Colombo florabase

Does it have any weight to it or is it similar to Oli Knott's NS?

ADA vs Oliver vs Columbo vs Red sea ??

I was thinking about this yesterday, has anyone seen Oliver Knott using his own substrate? Seems strange to me that in the TGM demonstration recently he used Aquasoil when his Nature Soil had just come to market....

ADA vs Oliver vs Columbo vs Red sea ??

Re: ADA vs Oliver Knott I like Tropica substrate, and will use it again. It needs capping with another substrate. I would advise leaving a gap away from the glass though as the substrate expands and rises up the glass in my experience

ADA vs Oliver vs Columbo vs Red sea ??

Re: ADA vs Oliver Knott It is good but I doubt I'll use it again. It is far too light and consequently gets blown about far too easily in my experience. The packaging also says it's not 'crushable'. It is - easily and makes a horrible dirty mess if you do 'crush' it

    Capping.

I meant all three being the Osmocote as well as the Tropica and Nature Soil. Also, perhaps consider keeping the NS separate from the gravel, will benefit should you uproot anything. If it CAN mix it WILL mix

    Capping.

I would suggest you don't need all three Ad. Tropica substrate is clay based, as is Oli Knott's NS so you shouldn't have problems 'holding' your ferts. I've found the Tropica stuff to be great but be aware that it expands and will creep up the glass if you put it too close so set it back an...

    Tropica Substrate

Will try this tonight and let you know the results in case you're curious. Will be a good test too for the new filter that should have arrived today :D

    Tropica Substrate

Re: Bargain Tropica Thanks for the thread split Steve. I have tried syphoning it at 'gravel level' and it causes all sorts of trouble. Perhaps taking the plunge and just clearing it up will allay the mess in the long term - combination of the two methods may work a treat. Thanks

    Tropica Substrate

Re: Bargain Tropica If you mean as a solution now, this is good idea, probably make a hell of a mess but definately worth trying, thanks Dave

    Tropica Substrate

Yes for sure, but I have a minimum of 50mm at the front. If you look at the sides you can see the substrate 'creeping' up between the gravel. Not attractive... Good stuff though, if you can contain it Edit: Split off from this topic: viewtopic.php?f=47&t=6144 Cheers, Steve.
