How's this tank looking now Richard?

That's a really good looking tank Nice, and the prices are very affordable! I'm tempted by one myself, would you recommend them? Did you go for the standard glass or the extra clear in the end? Also, what was the delivery service like, did it take long from ordering it until it arrived?

That's exactly how it looks, spot on with the description! Especially with the cardinals darting about for an extra splash of colour

Re: saintly's MA "long term" scape. This is one of the threads that interest me the most Mark, I love long-term, slow growing scapes, I mush prefer them to the rapid growing scapes which are over and torn down again in several months, and personally am very excited to see how this turns out...

Good progress so far! I'm finally setting up my Rio 180 this friday, which is a similar setup so your pictures have been very helpful! Keep up the good work, and keep the pictures coming :D

It's hard to tell from the picture, but 4 is slightly closer to the front and left, and its angled backwards instead of forwards. Not a huge different, but just toying with all the possibilities. I will get a pic when I get in from work this evening mirroring #3 with the wood on the right

If anyone is wondering, I ordered 6 E. tenellus, 3 P. stellata and 3 M. pteropus, which will go in along with the crypts, swords and small anubias from my 2ft. Not sure if this is enough plant biomass, but will do for now Im wondering if the P. stellata was maybe a mistake due to the difficulty...

I think I agree with you saintly, #3 but moved slightly to the right, might have to alter my planting plan slightly to accomodate, as I have changed my mind slightly since I posted it however many months ago. However, I am not overly bothered with golden ratio's etc as the setup is mainly for me...

opinions on hardscape placement wanted #1 #2 #3 #4 Personally, im swayed towards #1, as to the left of the tank is the doorway entering the room (right hand side is up against wall in the corner) so the tank would seem closed off if the bulk of the wood was on the left. Not sure tho

Finally got around to placing an order for some plants today, after seeing the quality of stuff saintly used in his new set-up, i've decided to give Aquafleur a try. Will be getting them next friday (23rd). Excitement!

As long as its cyanoacrylate based, any superglue is fine to use

Whilst they use less power, watt for watt, LED's waste more heat than T5. T5 waste approx 60% of their energy as heat, whereas LED's waste closer to 85%

Hmm, thats definately worth a shot Spiderpig I only have inert pea-gravel as the substrate so the plants are relying on water column dosing. I will get some when I go to work on the weekend as there is a B&Q just down the road

I have an 18W tube on a 12gal tank, so I have 1.5 wpg, so surely that cant be the problem?

Am dosing 2ml TPN+ and 2ml Easycarbo a day, and my plants are still not flourishing, far from it. Swords are starting to yellow at the tips, holes developing in leaves, crypts are still melting overor developing yellow patches on the leaves a month after they've been added to the tank, BBA...

Short update, finally got some more plants in there Excuse picture quality, I haven't used my camera in a few weeks, and have apparently forgotten how to do so properly :? Stocking is 12 glowlight tetra and 3 amano shrimp, plan to add some otto's as soon as I see some in a local shop...

Well, I saw an amazing sight today folks. Some of my crypts are starting to sprout some new very small baby leaves!! Whilst this may be no huge thing for most of you, for someone who has never managed to keep plants successfully before, it's a fantastic sight. Will be getting some more plants...

Finally got a hold of some Easycarbo and some TPN+, have been dosing both at 1ml per day, is this sufficient for low light stuff eg ferns, swords, crypts, anubias etc?

I always thought EC came in a kind of "good-bacteria soup" and washing it would remove this?

I'm sure I read somewhere that when planting java fern, one should cut off all the stalks at the rhizome and just attach the rhizome, and leave the leaves to grow back. Is there any truth in this, and if so, is it worth doing?

don't take my word for it, if you've been dosing 7ml tpn+ a day then you'll probably be ok im sure clive ( or any of the other experts) will tell us one way or another once they read this EI will work out a lot cheaper in the long run though compared to TPN+

I might have missed this, but what fert dosing regime are you using? With the 250w halide, it gives you approx. 4wpg, which is a lot of light, and if you aren't adding high fert levels, such as EI or even double EI, you might find you start to get algae problems? I'm sure clive will cast a more...

That looks great so far, I like it, not a fan of the backing paper though, plain black would look much better IMO As far as photo tips, taking at an angle isn't neccessary. Try and have it so the only light in the room is the tank lights themselves (eg at night with the room light off) and don't...
