    New tank, various problems

How are you measuring your Co2 levels Jim? What's your lighting duration and how far are the lights from your tank (the light looks very bright in your journal but it may just be the pictures)?

Does christmas moss attach itself to hardscape?

I've used it for years and never managed to get it to attach to wood.

New to plants and need help please?

I'd half the lighting period straight away. How are you measuring your Co2 and how long are you running your Co2 before lights on? What filter do you have? Are you adding any plant ferts?

    Lower leaves dying off

It might be down to Co2 / distribution at the lower parts of the tank.

Experiences with Ranalisma Rostrata in Hard Water

I had the same experience in my concrete water. It's still alive in my low tec but hasn't grown. In the last 3 weeks I've noticed runners and some growth in my hi tec but it has taken its time.

    Moss ID?

Thanks Darrel, I think I will try some in the tank then.

    Moss ID?

I think you're right Nath, just compared it with some in my shrimp tank. I'm surprised it has survived in the cold. I have enough of it already in my tank if its willow :) I suppose if it went back in a tank you'd have to step the temperature up with it?

    Moss ID?

Back in August I threw some moss cuttings into a water feature in my garden (may have been xmas or willow). The water was soon green with algae so I thought no more about it. On going out into the garden today I've noticed this: Can anybody ID this or is it just some kind of garden moss...

    Black leaves on Bolbitis

I don't know what it is but I'm suffering the same thing and after a while those leaves just seem to turn into a mush. I recently increased my liquid carbon dose and thought it may be related to that?

    Plants lacking in what?

I get my ferts from APF. They do a starter kit with the mixing bottles provided. I add magnesium to my mix as, from what I see, it is not mentioned in the water report. The hardness is due to calcium. As I'm only a few miles away from you I suspect you are in the same boat.

    Mother Crypt

They have very long roots and pop up anywhere in the tank. I had crypts in my tank but took them all out when I rescaped about 8 months back. I obviously didn't get all of the roots out and now have 6 Crypts that have popped up in various areas of the tank.

    Plants dying

Hi Bill, My mixture and dosing is based on this: http://ukaps.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=1211 It works out slightly different than what you are adding but now that you've cut the light and upped the Co2 see how things go before making any mixture changes. Changing too many variables at...

    Plants dying

You would benefit from the increased flow by adding the other filter but you will still need to increase your CO2 if you remain using the trickle filter. I took mine out and put in an eheim 2078, you don't have to modify the hood to do this. You say your drop checkers report good CO2 levels but...

    Plants dying

Hi Bill, are you measuring your CO2 levels with a drop checker? The trickle filter will almost certainly cost you some of your CO2 as it will just gas off, so you may need to increase your injection rate. I struggled to get good CO2 levels with this tank because of the original filter. In the...

    Attatching moss too driftwood?

There's probably a few people but I seem to remember some posts from a1matt. Hope I don't cause offence to the other experts.

    Attatching moss too driftwood?

It is pretty straight forward, you can use cotton thread or fishing line, but not all moss will attach itself. Java moss seems to stick to anything whereas flame moss doesn't. One of the moss experts on here will hopefully be able to expand on this for you.

    Plant Identification

I have to prune this regularly. I could offer cuttings now my tank is a bit healthier (I did have an algae problem), up until the last few weeks I'd have been a bit embarrassed to.  Next time I trim I can offer them.
