I'm not sure that anyone runs u.v around here it dosent really help planted tanks. I'm sure someone will be along shortly to inform you of the pros and cons. All algae issues in the planted tank are down to mistakes we make in the dosing schedule or other parameters such as too much lighting...

As a regular wetsuit wearer I know that it's very bad I've seen the effects myself! Stops the rash but ruins the wetsuit :( something about the Vaseline being petroleum based!

Vaseline is bad, you don't use it on wetsuits for the same reason it degrades rubber so just becareful!

For removing tannins I'd go for it and dose extra ferts. Have used it myself in bog wood tanks :) looked like a cup o tea!

Carbon is a big no no. Only use it for removing meds and even then it shouldn't be in your tank for more than 24 hours. Purigen can be used instead of carbon but it Has been reported to starve the bacteria of food in a few places although no idea if they are true! Lots of people on here only...

There on the back of my tank, but they are metal hose clips, look fine to me! I guess i just like the look of the sturdy non leaking pipes ;) But yeah Metal over Soft Silicone Tube over Hard Plastic. Can tighten them up a lot too. Its better to be safe than sorry!

Ok thought id get some feedback on what i'm up to. I've just bought some TMC powerbox 400 filters and realised the hosing is 19mm internal and not the standard 16mm...so that means all my external gear dosent fit properly.... I've already got it all setup with the gear attached with jublee...

13mm External Filter Pipes? I accidentaly bought a 13mm Lilly pipe set from Ebay, its sitting in a box unused but now im setting up a new tank is there any filters out there that uses a 13mm pipeline? I can't find any :( Cheers Chris
