    Walstad Dry Start Method

Hi I use it in my Tarantula enclosures. It seems good enough. Its not too fine all arround and has some clay like bits and small stones in it.It comes moist in the bag. You always give me ideas on here and I have empty tanks in storage. 😆 Regards Konstantin

Stunted Bolbitis and fert dosing tweaks ideas.

Thanks for your thoughts. Tbh that is what I think too but thought to post to solidify it as my aproach to keeping planted tanks is rather unscientific and as I said am winging it really and while some of the information on here has made its way into my head and have seen the benefits of...

Stunted Bolbitis and fert dosing tweaks ideas.

Hi appreciate your imput. In the case mine has been in the tank for few years now.It is the new growth that im bothered about. The plant seems to go though good and bad periods overal with pretty constant dosing and tank conditions . Anyone that uses Tropica specialised and doesn't mind sharing...

Stunted Bolbitis and fert dosing tweaks ideas.

Hi Its attached to hardscape in various places and heights but some have contact with the substrate(In particular some of the moler clay) I know what you are saying. Although I haven't noticed that with Bolbitis or Java ferns I have observed better growth on Anubias and Bucephalandra when you...

    Low Tech - Surface Scum

Hi I got one recently too.It is a good tool. I have mine on minimum flow as it keeps spitting bubbles if in full flow.I have mine positioned next to my outlet pipe(due to cable lenght) but due to lowered flow of it and some floaters present there is a bit of scum left on opposite side of the...

I am failing with a low tech

Hi The floating plants seem a bit battered by the flow of your filter (hense the browning) Try to section them off with some fishing line and suction cups sothey out of the area where the filter outlet is.Will fo more strong and healthy that way. Regards Konsa

    Journal Ottoloen Project

Hi Sounds like a good plan. Sponge filters are well oxygenated and worked wonders for me in past with heavily overstocked tanks. If lightly stocked it will be enough combined with the plants. As for water movement its important to have some but U dont need it as strong as in high tech tank.U need...

Hi I have the canister filled with siporax and one coarse sponge before it.I have one Chinese Fluval edge prefilter sponge knock off on the intake which is fine sponge and pull it out weekly for a rinse.I haven't opened the filter for about 5 months now.Last time I opened it it was 6 months...

    Journal Ottoloen Project

Hi If U plan on breeding the ottos the Koralia is also not fry safe.I have 4 ottos in my 36l low tech heavily planted tank with about 20 cherry shrimp.Filter TetraTech400 with lilypipe.I keep them at 22degrees Celsius and fed rarely.Managed to trigger spawning with waterchange with colder water...

    What is your fertilisation schedule?

Hi Dose away it does no harm. I do 1/2 EI on my heavy planted tanks and I dont use carbon suplement at all.Dosing 3 macro and 3 micro days with one day off and weekly large wc.All plants and lifestock sound. U will have carbon suplementing with Excel so not very low tech in my opinion Regards...

going back to basics, this ok?

Hi I keep couple of no CO2 tanks with sand only and is hard work to keep them balanced and algae free sometimes. It will be much easier to run a low CO2 tank with the aquasoil as a substrate than with plain sand. The aquasoil gives U bigger margin for mistakes.Just drop the lighting levels down...

    What's your Favourite

Hi My firm favourite is Hygrophila araguaia.Slow compact grower adaptable to many conditions.I have it in play sand, gravel, soil with CO2 or without. Low light or high it just grows well. Not much pruning needed. You may not have the red colour of it low tech but is still nice plant when green...
