    From Reef to Planted

Problem I can see with this is that you would end up with a higher and higher RO content in the tank without re-mineralising it. Especially with adding CO2, this is asking for a pH crash... I do like the idea, though... May get the sump in my new tank drilled and add a run off to waste... Will...

can you help me on first planted tank

I've used them and got OK plants. The even didn't send me one plant I ordered and credited me as the stock they got in was up to scratch. However, I agree that you get what you pay for. Bought some from The Green Machine before and they were top class.

    From Reef to Planted

Currently I am running this lamp at night when the main tank lights are off in order to reduce pH swings. The idea is that the plants growing in the sump will absorb some of the CO2 being produced by the tank inhabitants and bacteria which would otherwise during the day be absorbed by...

Aquascaping article on Daily Mail site

They didn't insult anyone, stereotype anyone, or make baseless accusations. You sure it's a Daily Mail article ;) Seriously, nice to see the hobby get some press. Kosh

    Best place to buy wood

TGM have some lovely big bits of Redmoor Root on their website, with pictures of each piece (so you get the bit in the picture as it were, not just a bit like it)... I have a lovely bit from them I am planning my next tank around... Link here: http://www.thegreenmachineaquatics.com/ ... t%2520Wood

Evaporation prevention (and lighting) - idiot newbit questio

Re: Evaporation prevention (and lighting) - idiot newbit que Hi, Am a bit rusty on my RO, but they need to be plumber into the mains. As the fittings are push-fit, it can be removed for storage is need be. I had (and intend to do the same this time) mine plumbed in with a solenoid on a timer...

Evaporation prevention (and lighting) - idiot newbit questio

Re: Evaporation prevention (and lighting) - idiot newbit que I used to have an open top 6ft x 3ft x 2ft reef tank with a kilowatt of light over it... I used to have an extractor fan in the wall behind it for when the temperature rose but still used to have condensation issues on my double and...

Need help setting up a low-tech shrimp only nano tank

As above... I think HC is considered a touch plant, so doubt it would do well without CO2 and ferts... I have HC for an emersed project I am setting up, but wouldn't consider it in my low tech tank... Rest of the setup sounds good, though...

    Interzoo BABY!

According to the Tropica site, its very slow growing but also low light, low CO2, etc... May make a nice carpet in a low tech but may also broke you when you have to buy hundreds to put in the tank, though... May start a thread in the plants section about this...

    Planted "open bottom" tank.

I'm not sure that second one works on the bell principle you know... Looks to me like and open top, brace-less cube (admittedly filled with water to the brim) stood in a shallow tank for effect...

    newie needs advice

I'd check out the board sponsors for supplies... Those I have used have been reasonably priced and offered great service... I'd say the filter would be matured as long as you can keep it running (sounds odd, but the bacteria in the filter can die if they don't get a constant supply of...

    newie needs advice

That looks an interesting site... Will bookmark it to read through later... Nice find... In terms of test kits, the generally held view on the forum is that hobby grade test kits are so unreliable and prone to error they are not worth worrying about... Most people go on using the health of the...

    newie needs advice

I have a low tank 240l at the minute with 80W of light... I have a variety of plants (I bought a £15 selection from an online retailer and saw what grew and what didn't) and only add minimal dry ferts (I spent £25 with a board sponsor and now have enough ferts for a few years) once every week...

    Planted "open bottom" tank.

I like the first one as an idea and can see how it works... My worry would be the seal at top of the tower goes (how much weight do the sides support?), it loses vaccum, and you have a big mess... Looks nice and unique, though... The second one I really like, but can't get the image out of my...

    is this superglue safe?

Can't help directly with your question, but I always used Superglue Gel in my reef tank. As well as being a proper cyanoacrylate the thicker consistency makes it easier to work with rather than runny glue...

    Tropica plant catalogue

Online is all very well, but now I want to get my hands on one of this years... I can just imagine the wife's rolling eyes as I lovingly peruse each page ;) In seriousness, as TGM and AE both sell Tropica plants, maybe they can help you out on a mail order copy?

question on water change/top-up and water conditioner

I think the question was do you dose for only the water you're replacing, or do you dose for the whole tank? I always leave my top-up/water change to stand for a day or so anyway, and add a dash of conditioner to it... I think normal practice is to only dose for the "new" water you're adding...
