    Kosh's New Tank - 3 x 2 x 2 with sump (low tech)

Didn't splash out for the lacquered, though did see the prototype when I visited the shop. Very nice. Finished off the sump pipework tonight and all tested and OK so far. Pics to follow...

    Kosh's New Tank - 3 x 2 x 2 with sump (low tech)

Well my new tank arrived last week, and I'm currently in the throws of setting it up. The tank is a 3 x 2 x 2 (supplied by a non-sponsor's Godiva range: http://bit.ly/k25XiW) with Optiwhite glass on the front and left side. It comes with a wier in the back corner that drains to a 36 x 15 x 15...

"Out Of Sight" - Cat litter/Osmocote temp tank

Cat litter seems to have settled down a bit, I am now only having trouble with the plants with smaller root systems floating off should you happen to brush past them. I'm thinking of testing to see what the levels are like, but then another part of me says why not let it bed in more and the...

"Out Of Sight" - Cat litter/Osmocote temp tank

It's part of my old RO system. The carbon filter is used to remove the chlorine before it goes to the RO membrane as it can damage it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_filtering

"Out Of Sight" - Cat litter/Osmocote temp tank

Right, new bulks arrived so it was time to cobble together a lighting rig for the tank. I got a 24W Growlux and 24W Phillips 880 from Lamp Specs. Not pretty but does the job. Slightly worried it may be too much on the tank (30 x 12 x 15) but I already had the starter and lamp leads, so it...

"Out Of Sight" - Cat litter/Osmocote temp tank

Did a 50% water change today, although it had all settled out. Just in case. Am concerned by the pH swing water changes bring about. It's a shade over 7 from the tap, but after a day in the tank reads over 8. Not sure if it's something in the cat litter, or just the CO2 in the water from the...

"Out Of Sight" - Cat litter/Osmocote temp tank

Well, as soon as my window's are done the living room will be redecorated, which also means new tank time! So in the lead up to then I've taken the opportunity to set up a small, temporary tank in the front shed of my house. This will be the home for my live stock during the transfer, and I'm...

    From Reef to River bed

Another reef deserter... I had a 6 x 3 x 2 reef tank a few years ago... As you say, the electricity bills were just ridiculous, and I found that topping up kalk, re-filling the calcium reactor, mixing salt for water changes, etc made it more of a chore than a pleasurable hobby... I always...

    Andyh's 190l Lounge tank (update 20-09-11)

Re: Andyh's New 170l Lounge tank I know what you mean about the shimmer created by a point source of light... Looks amazing... One problem I would have to overcome with MH is light spill... I used to get it in the neck from Mrs Kosh as the marine tank halides used to blind you when trying to...

    Andyh's 190l Lounge tank (update 20-09-11)

Re: Andyh's New 170l Lounge tank I used to use halides on my reef tank, where it was common practice to suspend a 400W halide six inches above the water line and have one every couple of feet... How high would you reckon on having a halide to cover a three foot tank like this one? Also, many...

    Switching to Low-tech

I have a spare tank in a cupboard that I fill with tap water, leave for a day with a heater in it, then use it for the top up... Putting an air stone in it would make it more efficient by breaking the surface during this standing time... I tend not to do water changes... Only once did a spell...

A Shady Glen - The Recovery - Photographs

Re: Aqua Journal May 2010 - A Shady Glen Long but nice and comprehensive journal... I like the idea of using the egg crate to make a rock wall... It does say the CO2 in tap water is responsible for the algae trigger... So I would imagine that if you let it stand before using it the CO2 will gas off until it reaches equilibrium with the atmosphere?

I always used Loctite Superglue Gel in my reef tank... Less runny so easier to handle... Reefers also use it in-situ in the tank, as in dip your arm in the tank, apply the glue under water, hold the things together for 30 seconds, job done... Never had any ill effects to my fish and corals...

My venture into my new 760 ltr planted tank .

Re: My venture into my new 760 ltr aquariam. That's a brilliant price for CO2... When I had a reef tank I had to go to an aquatic supplier for refils... I think they were about £25 then... Sounds a brilliant project... Best of luck with it...
