    Anybody keep any carnivorous plants?

Hi guys, As I'm in Uni now, my head has been melted with stuff to do. Thats why I haven't been as active as usual, which I'm not liking! Anyway, the Uni runs Treborth Botanical Gardens, here in Bangor. They have a few lovely greenhouses, one of which is completely tropical and overgrown with...

    Utricularia Graminifolia

I thought it was a bladder wort? Not a liver wort? The "bladders" are what traps the small insects, and they're not on the leaves they're on the roots as Darrel said. Beautiful flowers though.

downer. moss didn't attach to coconut shell

I don't really trust superglue, it has to be the gel kind or something aswell. Best thing to do is tie it down really well, with cotton sewing thread - get dark green or something so you cant see it. It looks kinda crap for a few weeks, then it will start growing like wildfire in the right...

    Weird "TubeWorm" On Saggitaria?

Check this out. Anyone got any ideas? Its on the underside of a saggitaria subulata leaf, moves a lot, hasnt spread to anywhere else in the tank and is cream white in colour. It's been there for about a week and is starting to get to me. Apologies for the badly edited photo. Look for it in...

    Saggitaria Subulata and Liquid Carbon?

As some of you know, I have just started dosing VIMI's "Accelerator" Liquid Carbon. Nothing has been affected in the tank by the daily 1.3ml dose. Nothing except the Saggitaria Subulata - I think! Is this melt ? :(

    Java Moss?

Yeah that's java, seems to have been grown in a low tech set up and it isn't in great shape! Chop it finely like a herb and use lots of fine thread to tie it tight to a branch + a few shrimp and it will be beautiful and lush in a few weeks!

    Rotting frogbit - causes/cure?

That happened to mine on a small shrimp tank. I removed the cover glass on the tank and the plant never rotted again, but stopped growing as fast! Don't know if it was humidity that caused it or what.

    Hydrocotyle Verticillata Turning Brown ?

My Hydro leaves have just turned brown on top, they also are starting to have very "wavy" looking stems, rather than straight up. Deficiency ? I'll post pics if people need them to diagnose. thanks guys!

Best/cheapest way to attach moss to something

I'd stick with cotton then for the bogwood. Superglue has to be the gel kind and leaves a white mark in the wood, also its more suited to fissidens!
  25. Kristoph91

Best/cheapest way to attach moss to something

Tights or those loofah/sponge/shower flower things if you want a carpetted kind of look on the object. Just black or dark green COTTON thread if you want it to look more freely growing. Use cotton as it will eventually rot away so no removal at later stages. If it's all trimmings, I'd...

    Phyllanthus fluitans (red root floater)

Mine were red under high light too. But then they grow new green leaves, which soon turn reddish. Give it some time, they are slow growers. By the way Tom, what tank is that shot from ? Do you have journal I can nosey at? Looks great. :D Kris

    Java fern

You could maybe try a vivarium fogger? That would make sure they were kept moist all the time I'd say, not sure if it would have any effect on light or anything though. Can't wait to see it when you finally get it going. :D Kris
  44. Kristoph91

    Java fern

Apparently java fern is one of the worst plants for drying out. If you were growing them emersed then you'd need to be vigilant with misting. Good luck with the tank though, I like the idea of an all fern tank. Kris
