    Glutaraldehyde!

Dipping in 2% Glut is clearly bad news for both Anubias and Echinodorus! Dropbox - 2013-12-26 10.12.47.jpg AquaEssentials order going in today if they're open...Lesson learnt there! Shame as quite a few of those anubias are 18months+ of growth.

    Glutaraldehyde!

48 hours after treating all my plants with 2% glut for 5 minutes or so when moving them between tanks and I'm not too happy!! First off, I made the mistake of dipping my amazon sword in glut. It would appear they don't tolerate it, and it looks like it's well and truly intent on dying now...

    Too much co2?

(Caveat - I don't run high tech myself). Why don't you drop your bps a bit? The dropchecker at the start of the photoperiod shows what the tank has saturated to overnight, so you may be able to achieve that with less.

    Glutaraldehyde!

I was just planning my strategy. I think removing plants is the best bet then, otherwise I'll kill the algae only to have it come back due to fluctuations when I stop dosing!

    Glutaraldehyde!

Will LC fluctuations cause BBA, or is BBA only attributable to CO2 fluctuations rather than C?

    Glutaraldehyde!

Be careful, it's just not the fumes from this stuff, it really is unpleasant (most of my family is medical, so I've sought their advice in handling this!). I'd say stick some goggles on in future just in case, and nitrile gloves for your hands. Other than that you should be ok doing it outside...

    Glutaraldehyde!

My Glut has arrived! Just got to wait until the weekend now to get some safety goggles and then get outside in the daylight to dilute it down and start using :). Going to make a 1.5% solution (1litre), and then consign the 50% bottle back to a corner of the garage well out of harm's way!

    Glutaraldehyde!

How long do the off-the-shelf 2% solutions say they can be stored for? I'm just wondering about people saying this polymerises over time and "goes off", and I was wondering whether this was just a technicality or whether it was a real thing to be concerned about? Just having a look on...

    Glutaraldehyde!

Considering doing this, partly for spot treatment of plant leaves where there's algae, but also to supplement my nano tank. Are people still happy with the results? Questions I've still got: - Can this be stored in a normal plastic fert bottle, or does it require glassware? Presuming fert is...

Short term CO2 to accelerate carpet?

I'm anticipating a couple of months at least (would also be a chance to play with CO2 in a tank with no livestock!).

Short term CO2 to accelerate carpet?

Well at least I know it's not going to be an overnight job regardless - that said, how much benefit will I see from CO2, and will it be worth it given the potential die-back? I've got a few pesky ones to chase with tweezers later, they haven't grown big enough roots yet, so sometimes the odd...

Short term CO2 to accelerate carpet?

As I lie in bed and look at my shrimp tank (as of yet lacking shrimp until it's established), the immediate thought when looking at my ele. acic and ele.acic sp.mini carpet is that, well, it's not much of a carpet yet. Since the tank is low tech, it's going to take a few months I expect until...

    Liquid or vapour CO2

Any reason you've elected to rent rather than go the FE route?

Does high tech necessitate regular water changes?

Good suggestion, but they drive me nuts! Not nearly orderly enough for my liking :p.

Does high tech necessitate regular water changes?

Thanks Ady. I was thinking that the PAR at gravel-level would be better without being excessive by using the T5s? I'm aware that the tank is reasonably deep. That said, there's absolutely no reason why I couldn't run the T8s and then maybe try the T5s at some point in the future for a brief...

Does high tech necessitate regular water changes?

Thanks guys, hugely informative posts and discussions in here. I think I'm going to approach this with the following strategy: - Run both the T5 tubes with reflectors, which will give me circa 2wpg. - Do not run CO2 - Dose the 5ml/50l of all in one fert recommended That should keep me in the...

Does high tech necessitate regular water changes?

Thanks very much for the considered responses guys. I had always assumed that the water changes were to get rid of the excess EI ferts, not the plant waste products. I'll have a look at some of Mark Evans' posts to get ideas. I suspect I'll end up going low tech on this setup since I want to...

Does high tech necessitate regular water changes?

Ok, the planning for my Rio 180 continues, and I'm giving more and more thought to CO2. That said, I'm getting more and more questions as a result. At present the Trigon 190 is doing well, with 2000lph turnover, and 0.8wpg of T8 lighting (with reflectors). I'm dosing James' All in One at a...
