any ideas on how to lower the amount of light

Although it is a more technical option I would prefer getting rid of one light. Surely it is a waste of electricity to have two on but block out light? Can you take out one of the light starter units (white cyclinder shape thing) and see if the hood turns on. If so then great your hood is wired...

    112gl tank lights

Sounds a fitting tribute  Have a read around the site, there are many threads from people new to planted tanks and you will find much the same content in the advice generally. If you still have questions then feel free to ask again. Welcome to UKAPS and sorry it wasn't under better...

    DIY LED lighting?

I really love the cabinet, tank (scape looks lush) and hood. I just can't help thinking the hood would look better sat on the tank. Do you have info anywhere on how you made the cabinet? What did you use to get the wood look onto the cabinet and hood (looks like something you stuck onto the base...

Cheap HO T5 fluorescent tubes - Update with photos

The number of the lamp (like 865) is broken down into two components. The second and third number, 65, is the colour temperature so - 6500 kelvin. Basically the lower the number the more orangey- red the colour. The higher the number say around 15000 - 20000 the more blue the lamp looks. The...

Aqua Medic Ocean light 150 MH pendant - HQI?

Have a look in places like Newey and Eyre, JBM, wilts. These are electrical wholesalers and they may sell security lights which are metal halide, or they may sell parts/help you out.

Aqua Medic Ocean light 150 MH pendant - HQI?

Just an idea, but once a MH bulb has been on for a while and you turn it off it won't turn on again for a while. It just makes a buzzing noise. I don't know if this is similar to what happened with you. Have you tried the original light again? I am sure you are aware but you should not touch...

    Natural Lighting

In grand designs I've seen people use light tubes to light their houses for free. Is it ever possible to use natural daylight to light a tank without having algae problems?

234 watts in a 96 litre tank over kill ?

Just wondered if you used US gallons or UK, I imagine the wpg would still be high, but not as crazy as 11!

    what to buy?

Perhaps it would be best in your case to have a lid. There are certain moulds and bacteria that grow in freshwater tanks that may irritate your asthma, it might be advisable to check with your GP. Also asthmatics are more succepible to the effects of damp in a house, which is likely to be made...

    T8 tube replacement?

Use vinegar on the glass of the bulbs and reflectors to make them shiny and clean again. Obviously take care to keep the electrics away from liquids though.

Hi there, Until me and the fiance move into our own flat (julyish) I've been banned from setting up the new 180 litre tank I got at the FoF. Thanks for the replies. Yeah I realise about the bulbs needing to be changed, I guess thats going to be quite expensive! I will keep an eye on aquarist classified. Lighting

Hey there, For my new tank I'm not sure what lighting to go for. I was highly considering the realux T5 all in one jobbys, getting 2 x 35". I am a little worried about the fact that once the light blows you need to throw the whole thing away. If it comes with a years guarantee then it's fine...
