    where to find nerites

southern aquatics at creekmore in poole have loads.. and are practically giving them away at about £1 each! If you hurry they might still have some. I asked for 6 the other day and got 9 for a tenner

lol Tom :) for some reason there seems to be a real shortage in the UK. Maybe you should ship some to Richard, I know he was struggling to get supplies.

Livebearers and baby shrimps....shrimplets if you will.

if you can put a pile of gravel in the tank temporarily the baby shrimp will have something to hide in.. it needs to be very course to allow them between the stones but it will work pretty well. The babies will naturally seek out a safe hiding place. this might allow you more survivors.

    nerites

southern aquatics in creekmore, Poole. they had maybe 30 or so left.. they also have similarly cheap apple snails. I recon they had a job lot, to see how they sold. Theyre pretty rubbish in supporting planted tanks, so stocking a planted tank snail probably resulted in no sales! Hense they...

just counted, they actually gave me 9 for a tenner!

    nerites

yepyep Ive read them breading in brackish, but the definition of what brackish actually meant in that case was not to be found! As far as I know, brackish is anything between fresh and marine! who knows :)

    nerites

Theyre primarily a sea snail that has adapted to live in fresh water, so their eggs only hatch in a saline environment... which is a big pain, especially when they lay all over your rocks! one day I might try a brackish tank, and throw a few in to see what happens.

    nerites

nerites are amazing snails.. they like to be in groups, where theyll munch mountains of algae together happily. hehe if the nerite drought persists, I might well go into business!!! At that price I could make a fortune and still be cheaper then both the Snail Shop and AE

    nerites

had an amazing bit of luck today.. went to my LFS, just to pop in to see what they had about.. managed to buy 6 ruby nerites for only £10! think thats quite mad, theyre quite big as well. Also managed to get 2 denison barbs for £14, which I recon isnt too bad either! Who says the LFS is...

    Trumpet snail prob

well I dont think theyre nerite eggs as theyre irregular sizes. If that snail is dead, scrape away gently at the growth, see if its solid or if theres anything oozy in it.. that should tell you if its some kind of abscess/growth, or just a calcium deposit.

    Snails!

I was thinking more extremes than that.. out of the tap my water is about 8.2 which they really DONT like :) My point was that if a person was experiencing shrimp death due to PH, then snails would love it.. not that PH was the be all and end all. Interesting your thoughts on dosing effecting...

    Snails!

I normally get my inverts from here, very good seller. snail shop normally, if your water isnt any good for shrimp, itll be perfect for snails, and visa versa.. high PH will be brill for snails as itll generally be quite hard, which is great for making shells.. low PH will dissolve snail...

    Snails!

all the snails Ive owned have all avoided any plants.. even when theres no algae theyll starve before they eat the plants. Which is a common cause of death unfortunately. People forget to feed them and they flake out pretty fast, especially if theyre big. Apple snails need alot of food, at one...

    Shrimps

thanks for the tip :) ive had awful trouble trying to keep shrimp alive, ive often wondered if its my hard alkaline water.. or some part of my maintanence schedule they dont like.. i might try this food, see if it makes a difference

    Lifeless Nerit snail.

look in its shell.. does it look healthy? or is it starting to decompose? they go yucky very quickly when they die, also, if its dead, chances are your fish will peck at it. they can take days to come round.. bear in mind that you had the temp real low until recently, give it 3 or 4 days from...

    population in a week!!

i was being serious :) i do that alot, with inverts, and plants like riccia. :) theres a large market for either

    population in a week!!

pick them out :) buy some polystyrene pots on ebay, and some fibre wool, and sell them for £1 a go! :) theyll mail out no problem like that, make the fibre wool moist. they can also come in on plants, eggs laying in the roots etc. they wont harm anything at all, they will only eat algae and...

    Lifeless Nerit snail.

no way to tell im afraid... normally though, when theyre dead, you can tell by looking at the state of the bottom of their foot inside the shell.. itll look good and healthy if hes just asleep, youll be able to see curling at the edges, and often bubbles of gas coming out if hes dead.

    Lifeless Nerit snail.

check hes in his shell and not going icky.... 20C is very cold for Nerites, and any other tropical inverts.. Ramshorns are about the only ones that would be ok with 20C. That could have been the issue

    Lifeless Nerit snail.

http://www.snailshop.co.uk is a much better invert supplier than AE, much much cheaper, and a huge range

    Lifeless Nerit snail.

    Bamboo shrimp

spray bars a good cos if the flow is too much, you can just drill more holes in it to lessen the force and also to get a better coverage. the other way would be a variable speed powerhead..

    Snails surface skating

In case you've not seen this before, snails really do skate around on the surface! This little (1.5cm) Leopard Ramshorn snail really seems to love it and does it whenever hes not feeding or sleeping! He adjusts his buoyancy by taking more/less air into his shell.. this allows him to remain...

    Nerite snails and loaches

lovely arent they? they do so love home grown cucumber

    Snails!

yep, apple snails need about 6 inches of air above the tank, and theyll lay their eggs in batches. So long as you have a male/female apple snail then you should be able to breed them quite easily. Apple snails are one of the few species of snail that are'nt asexual.

    Snails!

I love my nerites, Im always amazed at just how fast they can cross a tank.. one minute you look at your tank and their in one corner, the next minute, theyre feet away! Unfortunatly I lost 2 of mine early on, I never really figured out what the cause was, its not like they didnt have enough...

    Shrimps

I absolutely love shrimp, they work soooooo damn hard its amazing.. i put 5 tiny ones in my tank about 3 months ago and ive not seen them since! only my one oldy is visible, but theyre so tiny. i want some bumble bee ones, they look so cool

    Snails!

I just love snails, they leave your plants alone, and they stuff all the algae they can find! At the moment I have 2 nerite stripy jobs, and Ive just ordered these amazingly cool purple apple snails. Isnt that amazing! Im hoping I might get these guys to breed, unfortunately, Nerite snails...
