    My lights have failed

weird.. do they have any kind of started capacitor in them like they all used to have? If thats gone then nothing will light.

    lighting

colour temperature makes no difference to the plants whatsoever.. its purely down to your own personal preference. :) dont beleive the hype that all the manufacturers ram down our throats. We've tried and tested.

    Arcadia Luminaire - unimpressed

I hve the same unit over my tank. As I have a large wooden lid over the top the wires dont bother me.. however.. after dropping my entire unit in the tank once (when it was on!) I was forced to strip it down to er.. dry it out  it would be very easy to re-route the cable along...

    Changing bulbs?

Im with Clive... the amount of difference it makes just isnt worth it for me to justify the expense. If youre rich tho go for it!

    T8 tube replacement?

most tubes get dirty more than wear out. its a myth that they need changing after a year, I used to run T8s for 3 years before really noticing any difference in output. use wet kitchen paper to clean them every few months, itll make a huge difference.

    Reducing Lighting

I would remove a tube if you need to lower your light. Photoperiod looks fine to me. you have about 3wpg, which without high tech co2 and EI is going to cause you issues I would say. Halving your lighting is going to make life much easier for you.

    Photo period

I would say an 8 - 10 hour total.. but Id not do a siesta midday.

    10,000k Lights?

its funny.. it wasnt so long ago that I was reading that 10k lights were the perfect choice for planted aquaria!

    LED lighting over planted tank...

I have a huge piece of matt black card behind my tank, actually on the wall rather than on the tank. So long as your not shooting a 'stand back' type composition, it works well to absorb any unwanted reflections. Its just cheap picture mounting card.

    T5 100cm unit needed.. suggetions?

yay!! it came! very nice unit, only trouble is you can only turn off the tubes in 2's.. so Ive blacked out about 20% of the splash guard in an appropriate area. The back of the tank is a little dark.. my tank is a wide 20inches. Got the unit as high as itll go in the lid, so will see how it...

    T5 100cm unit needed.. suggetions?

was £215 delivered to the door.. cant grumble with that. max light is waaaaay too much for a planted tank of my size (3.7wpg), but it would be good for a later reef tank.. until then, ill turn one tube off.

    T5 100cm unit needed.. suggetions?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Arcadia-Overtank- ... dZViewItem this looks pretty nice to me.. pity its 4 tube.. but I can always turn one off as theyre seperatly switchable.. anyone have any experience with this unit?

    T5 100cm unit needed.. suggetions?

well the damn ebayer nightmare withdrew the 3x39w 100cm unit that I wanted :( and it was only £100.. so that leaves me stuffed again!! anyone know any good suppliers where I might get something similar? I desperately need to replace my lighting.. must be 100cm, no bigger as itll have to fit...

    uneaven lighting causing issues

had an epiphany moment this morning while in the shower ... like you do. all my T5 lighting is compact, therefore only 21" long (i was offered a cheap unit)... so, my effective 110watts, is squashed into only about 2/3rds of the tank.. that makes my wpg about 4 over that area  no wonder...

    Lighting

definatly know what you mean.. talk about a minimalist answer.. i think what he was getting at, was that 39w T5 lamps are a standard length.. if i remember rightly, the tubes are 38 inches from pin to pin.. they would also be the normal linear type, not the compacts, the compacts would be 55w...

    Pico Lighting

not sure if there would be alot of difference between those 2 :) id go for the cheapest :)
