Sorry about the dark pictures had to use my phone. It's obviously not finished yet. Need the stems to grow and add some more moss to the front. Will be planting some form of low growing plant in front of the stone on the right. As for the HOB the peace lilly only went in 2 days ago as did the...

    30cm Cube

Yes there is that but tbh I didn't really want the hassle of re-ordering and so on. I have ordered from them before and the plants have been fine. They send everything out on the monday and mine were received the next day, the state of the plants couldn't have been from just spending a night in...

Looks great! I echo the comments about keeping it overgrown but I suppose that's the look I prefer.
  6. M

    30cm Cube

Fair enough. It was Plants Alive. The plants were not alive, they were brown and largely leafless. The envelope had flattened the plants and a brown goo leaked out when I opened it, no doubt dead plant matter.
  7. M

    30cm Cube

As far as I'm aware it's not allowed. Suffice to say all the plants melted and died within a few days, other plants are doing fine. No pics as I'm still really unhappy with how things look!

    30cm Cube

Plants arrived. Absolute state. Won't mention the supplier but certainly won't be using them again!

Fluval Studio 900. 'Coastal Erosion' Journal Finished.

Re: Fluval Studio 900. 'Coastal Erosion' Journal. Now that it's been mentioned I think I agree, it just slightly blocks the view of the arch. Other than that it's a really great scape!

    30cm Cube

It's not as steep now so hopefully it will hold! :o Had a complete disaster with the shrimp, they were sucked into the filter, not the inlet but at the very top where the wire enters there's some suction. Didn't realise until it was too late. Absolutely gutted. Have now replaced the filter...

I'm thinking of using Lilaeopsis brasiliensis as a foreground plant but unsure how well it will do with just liquid carbon? Have decided against pressurised as I quite simply don't have the money for a regulator.

    30cm Cube

Sorry for the lack of update, spent all my money on a trip to Bulgaria. Tanks a right state as I left the filter off while away. Been cleaning and planting today, hopefully some pics when everything clears up!

    30cm Cube

Cat litter is virtually ready, a slight smell left but I'm just going to leave it for now. Added a ton of dry ferts to the water and osmocote to the substrate. On holiday at the end of the month so won't be adding any livestock until I'm back. Removed the large stone at the front, might even...

    30cm Cube

Re: 30cm OptiWhite Cube Yeah I will try a few different stones at the front when I pick them up, these 3 were all I had in the house. San-ho-zay you're right. I guess they're not optiwhite, just assumed they were because they're the PAH cubes!
  22. M

    30cm Cube

I went to purchase the smaller tank but the 30cm cube was £5 off and only £24 with the filter so thought why not? I had planned on just having a little emersed setup but I really can't wait any longer for a full scape so here goes! Threw in some tescos cat litter and some seiru stones I already...

Tanks doing well again though I decided to remove the riparium section. Everything grew too big! This is the tank now. It was too overgrown and there wasn't any swimming space for the fish so I moved some plants around. It's not how I'd like it to look but I'm moving soon so didn't see the...

  31. M

    Water's Edge

The last two months have been great with barely a water change. Now I've run into a problem, one fish has a case of pop eye and I fear it's due to rapidly dropping Ph. I added the last of the fish around a month ago and since the Ph has dropped from 7.4 to 6. Could this be the cause? Am 0 Ni 0...

Re: The 90x45x75 optiwhite dream...emergent plants? Peace Lilly is also toxic but is regularly used in plant filtration and emergent set ups. Unless the fish are eating the leaves you're good. Re: The 90x45x75 optiwhite dream, emergent plants? P. Scandens works. I was going to try various Philodendrons but the best pace to get rare ones is from a german site. Only issue would be whether they adapt to room humidity.

Asclepias curassavica is the only plant I'm having doubts over, but I've seen a few new leaves recently. The pelonia repens has surprised me, I didn't think it would adapt but it's doing well. All the rest are growing healthily. I'll make another update when the new plants arrive.

    "Practice Valley"

So I tore this down but forgot to take pics. Plants grew nicely and I resolved all the algae issues. New wabi Kusa type paludarium thingy finished last night. Like I said, this is a practice tank and I'm trying out as many things as possible.
  73. M

    "Practice Valley"

Always remember to clean out your filter media, I almost threw up the amount of gunk that came out. Apart from the melt the plants are ok, it was actually algae covering all the leaves which I thought were deficiencies, so I'm assuming it was the sheer volume of crap stuck in my filter causing...
  74. M

    "Practice Valley"

Diatoms, why must you hurt me so!? I'm getting the tooth brush out almost everyday. All other algae at bay. Some crypt melt at the back, not sure some plants coped well with being replanted but I've now switched to dosing EI and moved the co2 diffusor as I think distribution was suffering...
  75. M

    "Practice Valley"

Ok back to the opticians I think! Through the glass it's clear as anything, if I remove the whole drop checker from the tank and look closely it's a very pale green. It's 4dkh and Bromo blue, it certainly goes in dark blue. Just my eyes
  76. M

    "Practice Valley"

Cool, thanks for that. Have a friend showing me the ropes tomorrow so fingers crossed. My drop checker has gone clear, I assume this is way beyond yellow and and into stupidly high co2 territory?
  77. M

    "Practice Valley"

Thanks George. Really appreciate the comments. Hopefully once I get to grips with the DSLR my pics can do the scape more justice. It looks much nicer with all the plants swaying and the lights shimmering on the sand at night.
  78. M

    "Practice Valley"

I know it's not much. Had a swarm of plants arrive today. So many I had to add most of them to my emersed set up! Got plenty of crypts planted in here now so both sides are nice and full, hopefully they take well, had to seriously trim some roots just to get them planted.
  79. M

    "Practice Valley"

So here it is, my first scape. It's a 6 gallon tank, one 11w CFL daylight bulb, 2bps FE pressurised, 2 x 300lph internals, Eco complete substrate. It's just for me to practice growing plants really, these pics are just after replanting, it was a bit of a jungle before but I've removed a few...
