Looks great! I echo the comments about keeping it overgrown but I suppose that's the look I prefer.

Fair enough. It was Plants Alive. The plants were not alive, they were brown and largely leafless. The envelope had flattened the plants and a brown goo leaked out when I opened it, no doubt dead plant matter.

As far as I'm aware it's not allowed. Suffice to say all the plants melted and died within a few days, other plants are doing fine. No pics as I'm still really unhappy with how things look!

Plants arrived. Absolute state. Won't mention the supplier but certainly won't be using them again!

I've been following it exactly. You're not supposed to do anything other than a small water change every so often. How do people make it work? :crazy: They obviously have success with it. I thought I was for a good few months.

In that case I don't understand how the Walstad system works.

I do waterchanges, just not as regularly. This is probably a dumb question, but what am I removing when I make a water change if not nitrates? I'll increase them from now on.

The last two months have been great with barely a water change. Now I've run into a problem, one fish has a case of pop eye and I fear it's due to rapidly dropping Ph. I added the last of the fish around a month ago and since the Ph has dropped from 7.4 to 6. Could this be the cause? Am 0 Ni 0...

Asclepias curassavica is the only plant I'm having doubts over, but I've seen a few new leaves recently. The pelonia repens has surprised me, I didn't think it would adapt but it's doing well. All the rest are growing healthily. I'll make another update when the new plants arrive.

Plants arrived about ten minutes ago! :D Will plant up and take some snaps. One concern I have. Will two x 24 T5 be strong enough positioned a good 80cm or so from the substrate? :crazy: I'm only growing crypts and low light stems etc.

What about switching to RO if you're having problems with CO2 dissolution? Seeing as it's only a small tank you wouldn't need much?

So I tore this down but forgot to take pics. Plants grew nicely and I resolved all the algae issues. New wabi Kusa type paludarium thingy finished last night. Like I said, this is a practice tank and I'm trying out as many things as possible.

Always remember to clean out your filter media, I almost threw up the amount of gunk that came out. Apart from the melt the plants are ok, it was actually algae covering all the leaves which I thought were deficiencies, so I'm assuming it was the sheer volume of crap stuck in my filter causing...

Diatoms, why must you hurt me so!? I'm getting the tooth brush out almost everyday. All other algae at bay. Some crypt melt at the back, not sure some plants coped well with being replanted but I've now switched to dosing EI and moved the co2 diffusor as I think distribution was suffering...

Ok back to the opticians I think! Through the glass it's clear as anything, if I remove the whole drop checker from the tank and look closely it's a very pale green. It's 4dkh and Bromo blue, it certainly goes in dark blue. Just my eyes :crazy:

Cool, thanks for that. Have a friend showing me the ropes tomorrow so fingers crossed. My drop checker has gone clear, I assume this is way beyond yellow and and into stupidly high co2 territory?

Thanks George. Really appreciate the comments. Hopefully once I get to grips with the DSLR my pics can do the scape more justice. It looks much nicer with all the plants swaying and the lights shimmering on the sand at night.

I know it's not much. Had a swarm of plants arrive today. So many I had to add most of them to my emersed set up! Got plenty of crypts planted in here now so both sides are nice and full, hopefully they take well, had to seriously trim some roots just to get them planted.

So here it is, my first scape. It's a 6 gallon tank, one 11w CFL daylight bulb, 2bps FE pressurised, 2 x 300lph internals, Eco complete substrate. It's just for me to practice growing plants really, these pics are just after replanting, it was a bit of a jungle before but I've removed a few...

Re: Wabi What - Wabi Where - Wabi Who I sometimes use pillow cases as substrate dividers in my dart frog tanks. They last forever. Could always try substrate inside one with little slits on the top to squeeze plants into. Check your pillow case lets through enough water first, the ones I use...
