    Javafern - Brown Splotches

I have. But I just solve it by throwing a brick through the tank. Gets rid of it just fine.
  2. Nathaniel Whiteside

    Javafern - Brown Splotches

Dropping a bristle nose in does appear to solve a problem, but not at its root. Your goal should be understanding what your plants require in simple terms. No need to be a brain box like Clive.

    Growing Lilaeopsis NZ (HELP needed)

No, you do not have too much light. But if you continue to use these lights, you must increase your Co2 and Ferts, otherwise these become a limiting factor. Without carbon to grow and fertilisers, your plants are in turmoil. The light is forcing them to grow but they cant.
  11. Nathaniel Whiteside

    Growing Lilaeopsis NZ (HELP needed)

Although never growing L NZ myself, i believe the secret to its success is plenty of co2 and Fertilisers. Why wait till you see growth to fertilise? Its like saying, "Ill wait till I'm as full as a bull, before I start eating" Look into EI dosing and pressurised co2 injection.

    1-2 Grow VS Regular Pots

Hey mate, You'd get between 2-3 normal pots worth in the 1-2 Grow! The 1-2 Grow! Tends to be in a lot better health normally than normal pots too, I've found. No algae /snails etc. Grow pots obviously get going faster too, as they require less acclimatisation.

Hey all, Taken from my Journal 'Pretty Stream': I got tired of seeing the stainless steel mesh through my Fissidens fox, so bought some ADA Riccia stones ( after looking for 'black slate' to no avail). Got some super glue from tescos and set to work. It took me about two hours to sort and do...

    Rotala macrandra

You probably are zapping it with too much light. You should wind the lighting back to maybe 1 tube for 4-5 hours max when first planted. I have no experience. With the plant in question, but rather, this advice is more across the board, to maximise your chances of success. If fauna are in...

  28. Nathaniel Whiteside

    Anubias rapid growth rate?

So they are only set to 20%? try upping them by 10% per week to 40% Increase Co2 as necessary and monitor.
  29. Nathaniel Whiteside

    Anubias rapid growth rate?

How low is your 'fairly low lighting' ? over what sized/ depth tank? how far is it positioned from the surface? are you dosing Fertilisers?
  30. Nathaniel Whiteside

    Continuous pruning or not?

Plus, if your injecting Co2, if you have a huge trim, you could potentially lose your fauna to asphyxiation if you don't scale back the co2 accordingly. Similar thing applies with Liquid Carbon.

  39. Nathaniel Whiteside

I think something is wrong with my set up plants don't grow

Id say, if your using the same amount of ferts as a year ago, that you'll be needing to increase them as the plant mass grows. Otherwise, they wont be wanting to get any bigger, as they'll just deteriorate.
  40. Nathaniel Whiteside

  43. Nathaniel Whiteside

Is this a Fern producing oxygen?

Yes that video, to me, shows that the plant has a tiny hole in the leaf and this is causing the bubbles. This doesn't necessarily mean its unhealthy, it could have been caused by anything. Darrel will explain in more detail if you ask him, as he is well clued up with this sort of thing and...
  44. Nathaniel Whiteside

Is this a Fern producing oxygen?

  53. Nathaniel Whiteside

Elecocharis Acicularis (and mini) - Emersed Start?

Plant it individually, its appearance as it grows in is far superior this way Rick. Monotonous yet rewarding :jimlad:. Start as you wish, I would say emersed growth would be more rapid than immersed, due to Co2 availability. Cheers,

    Carpet Question

Plant a hair grass deep? HC wouldn't hold if that's the case, as its hard enough to get down and stay put as it is. Could try planting The HC with a decent amount of fibrewool still attached to try hold it down if you were willing to give it a go?

    Blyxa japonica melt

Hmm it depends, I think it's quite demanding of co2 & ferts, but mine seems to have gone wild in my tank with sub 30ppm co2 levels. It was out the tank as of last night and in ziplock bags in DVD box shaped cardboard box. So will be ok for a day of 2 max. Let me know, would rather it be of use. ;)

    cant grow HC

Strange, did you use specific type of water? (Tap, RO or fertiliser mix?) I added the ferts to mine as I assumed that the unlimited Co2 would drive a need for ferts. I added 1ml of Brighty k to the misting mix, I wonder if the potassium aids the HC.
