Low maintenance Fluval Edge 46 litre

Pretty impressive George. It would be great to do this kind of setup for my Dad as he's pretty hopeless with maintenance and low tech would definitely be a good option. I like the idea of no evaporation on the Fluval Edge tanks. Do you think it would be possible to create a similar setup but...

    IALPC 2012 New Judging Guidelines

That's all cool, I'll leave him to it :) I was only thinking just a .pdf for the sake of a flat visual to throw something together. Of course I would include proper file types of the correct resolution as a bundle of artwork to be used for the final. Give me a shout if you need anything...

    IALPC 2012 New Judging Guidelines

I would be happy to get involved in the graphic design part. I graduated last summer in BA Graphic Arts and although I'm not mad into designing for the web I'd love to get involved in some kind of logo/identity that could be applied online. I can produce flat .pdf layouts with all the elements...

    Let's talk aquascaping "the future"

Agreed  I especially like this; I noticed that looking through Amano's older books theres a lot of accompanying text involved that describes his own personal experiences and inspiraions. These aquascapes are almost like 'impressions' or 'memories' of nature. I think this working...

    In over my head

My advice is level the substrate along the front of the glass and slope it toward the back for a bit more perspective if you can - at the minute its got a 'freshly poured' look. The wood looks great though, nice pieces.

    ADA step-by-step by ADG Vibe

Incredible setup. That would be the finishing touch to any Modernist building. Can't really imagine it in the chintz and three-piece suite living room of most brits though  Be interesting to see if anyone actually uses that kind of mega-ultimate ADA rig that isn't a retailer. I've yet to...

    My Dads Nano

Hey everyone, Was after a few tips regarding plant recommendations for a tank for my dad (I thought this would be better in the 'Aquascaping' category as its more the whole composition of the tank). This is the tank with a bare bones layout; The setup is unheated (although ambient room...

Mr Amano's home tank!! (must see)

What Devin has done is refreshing to see. I can see some milage in that, either by introducing some Amano style minimalism with the equipment or working on the layering and 'dimensional' quality that the planters introduce to a whole composition. The underwater section could also be worked on...

Mr Amano's home tank!! (must see)

I think creating something original is still possible but I think what Amano did by creating the 'Nature' style is still a one off in its popularity and vision. I think the reason why the Nature style is so admired and copied is because it agrees with all of our experiences of nature but can...

Mr Amano's home tank!! (must see)

Agreed. I believe Mr Amano has a unique mix of qualities that make his work possible. Not only has he massive amounts of vision but he is also from a culture that is very unique in its relationship with nature. I can only see someone else out of Japan coming close, and even then I doubt they...

Please post your favourite Dutch 'scapes

Excuse my ignorance but to be honest I havn't seen many Dutch 'scapes altogether. Maybe its because the NA style is more popular in the UK. Any links of where to find this elusive breed of tank? Aren't 'true' Dutch 'scapes few and far between where the rules are so stringent?

    Shallow - The Future?

I'd love a tank like that when I finally get a 'real' tank. Also had a thought that the dimensions are better for mimicking the shallow stream biotopes of a lot of fish and inverts we see in planted tanks, almost like a true 'slice' of nature. It also lends itself to the sort of wabi...

I'll give it a crack if my crypt doesn't melt horribly when I fill the tank from the dry-start! Will be first competition. Do you get ranked out of everyone or is it just the 1st, 2nd, 3rd?

My first 'real' attempt at aquascaping

I really like the unusual layout of the wood emerging from the tank. Worth considering some fissidens, pellia or moss in the nooks and crannies of the wood. Your idea reminds me of this; http://www.aquascapingworld.com/forum/aspiring-aquascapers/2433-10l-tower-2-a.html Will the clip-on Arcpod...

    frustrated or not?

Out of interest and curiosity what is the 'oldest' 'scape that anyone has seen?
  29. NeilW

    frustrated or not?

Thats what I was thinking too. For me the most interesting bit is setting it up with hardscape at the start, but that doesn't take long at all in comparison to looking at it everyday like you say. Maybe the way forward is to have 2 tanks an the go and change the both scapes every few months...
  30. NeilW

    frustrated or not?

This is me too. Also not the budget, time to put into maintenance, space for tanks that match the ambition :( Funny how the actual main scaping bit (which is my favourite bit) takes very little time in comparison to how long you look at the tank.

    keymaker's composition studies

For me 'rules' such as the golden ratio, Fibonacci series and odd numbers are articulating with words something we already instinctively know as human beings from nature. The fact that these 'rules' were theorised in places as far apart as ancient Greece and Japan proves this visual language is...

    Nano sized wood?

That wood looks great in there Paulo, I may have a snoop around when I'm walking about and see although I'm over cautious about putting anything untried in with the shrimp, I know there can be problems with wood from certain trees? Thanks for that Dan, I ended up speaking to the friendly chaps...

    Nano sized wood?

Hello, I was after some nano-sized wood about 6" in height with a few branches. Basically roughly this shape and size; http://showcase.aquatic-gardeners.org/Img2009/600/514.jpg Trouble is the 'nano' sized pieces from both TGM and AE are 12" or a little less in length. Anyone know of where to...

    GREEN ON ROCK! NOT ALGAUE

I've been trying to achieve a similar thing so it would be interesting to see other peoples suggestions. Very low moss would be spot on but I've yet to find an aquatic equivalent to that nice terrestrial moss like you get on bonsai. I saw a moss called 'green sock moss' on this site but it...

    Wood scape critique!

I don't like knocking anyones efforts but it looks too symmetrical for my liking, where they're all a similar length and angle as well as the composition. Also theres an even number of pieces and nature appears to like odd numbers so maybe using 3 or 5 pieces would help. I like the rocks...
