    Maldives

It inspired me to want to setup a nicely aquascaped marine tank with humbug damselfish and white coral sand.

    Maldives

Cheers chaps, it truly felt unreal. I feel very lucky to have gone. Awesome Ady, Its pretty cool to see that no matter where you go there you get a very similar experience. We were at Vihamanafushi (don't ask me how to pronounce that!) in the North Male Atoll which is about 20 minute boat...

    Maldives

Hey guys Just got back from honeymoon, thought I would show you guys a selection of my fish based photos I got whilst I was out there. It was incredible, the water was like a bath but with reef fish just sat waiting to be seen metres from the beach! Crazy. Excuse the quality, I just bought a...

    Planted Wedding Centre Pieces?

Hey gang  For my future wedding (hopefully this year) I was thinking of some kind of planted centre piece and have been given the green light by my better half. I was thinking some kind of wabi kusa, possibly in the style of Schruz although I think this may be a challenge creating...

    Marine Nano

That looks great, cheers George. I did remember that from a while back but cant find the PFK with it in, although I do have the issue with the pullout that shows the 30 litre microhabitat setup. Does this mean that in theory I could move my freshwater setup elsewhere but use the same hardware...

    Marine Nano

I'm tempted by the 30 but its a lot more money then £50 sadly. It seems superior in many ways including available space to scape with. I found a couple of companies so far 'Aquaroche' and 'Korallenwelt'. I'm leaning towards live rock as it seems so much better at filtration initially in the...

    Marine Nano

Thanks Hinch. I'm most likely getting the little TMC all-in-one 15 litre system so it will already have a built in powerhead. I will also use the different chemical pads you can get hold of to boost the filtration. Hopefully in addition to live rock and live sand this should be adequate. I know...

    Marine Nano

Some excellent info already, cheers both Iain and Tom. In a tank that small I was doubtful if any fish would be suitable, but those clown gobies look excellent - I really like the look of the 'green' type. Gobies are also my favourite species of fish. Any other miniature marines that would be...

    Marine Nano

The main thing I'm getting my head around is that corals are animals not plants, but still seem to have a lot of the same requirements and characteristics of plants. However I don't want to go murderously hacking up corals to propagate them like I would a plant so need to do further research on...

    Marine Nano

Just the man George, thanks indeed. Really interesting looking at a tank from a different perspective but with the same taste and level of planning I've gained from the planted tank world.

    Marine Nano

Hey Everyone  I know this is a bit of a strange topic in a planted tank forum but I know you guys are a great mine of information and have been infinitely helpful in the past. Inspired from Tom's marine setup I am thinking of setting up a 15 litre nano in the kitchen in addition to my...

    Tom's "Aquatics Live" Dennerle

So nice, i would love a set up like that. The 'weirdness' of marines is what makes it appealing for me, you could spend hours just looking at everything nose to the glass.
  14. NeilW

    Tom's "Aquatics Live" Dennerle

This sounds very tempting indeed. So in theory the rock and sand is the filtration media and the powerhead is the pump. I didn't know that the rock had that much filtration capability by itself. Does that mean I could start off with an ADA cube, a Koralia, a heater and some LED lighting for...

    Tom's "Aquatics Live" Dennerle

Looks amazing. I would love to do something like this but wouldn't know where to start... What put me off marine tanks was the 'fruit stall' look, ugly equipment, and coralline algae encrusted glass but this clean look is excellent.

    Muji

It doesn't seem as expensive as I first thought... This would make an awesome nano stand, although you'd have to get a good looking filter to match. Maybe cool for a Plant Glass.

I'm no spambot :( I just found some cool stuff that looks good with my fish tank

    1st Generation iPod Nano

Heads up for anyone that still has a first generation iPod Nano lurking in the back of a drawer, down the back of a sofa, in the dog somewhere. Even if it is dead. Apple are offering a free replacement due to an issue over the battery. All you need to do is put your serial number into...

    Anyone else use Tumblr?

As the topic title says, does anyone else use Tumblr or similar? Thought it looked like a good platform for a similar 'journal' type format that would be good for documenting your tanks. Pretty cool how you can 'follow' others too to see whatever their updates are and also 'reblog' their posts...

Please sign this petition - Fuel prices

Just to confuse the issue more regarding 'gas guzzling' cars vs. the cyclist theres something inbetween; the motorcycle. My little Honda cost me £15 for a years road tax (!) It also cost me £15 for my last 2 weeks of fuel with fuel economy working out to be a bit better then 100mpg. Theres a...

    Wildflower Turf

From what I'm told I think the guy has been developing it for years to get the right mix of species that will be OK, I think his dad started it originally. I've yet to see the product myself but his client list is pretty impressive so I'm guessing it must work. Seems an interesting project...

    Illegal Nano tanks?

I think people into the planted tank thing are more likely of treating their livestock better as they need to understand the nature of a closed ecosystem to be successful and picking appropriate species is part of this. It seems that small tanks in the planted tank world have come from an...

    Illegal Nano tanks?

Not that I can find George. Annoyingly I can't find an 'official' link to the original law, so as you say 'very small' is rather ambiguous... It may also be one of those things where its difficult to enforce but its interesting to see a government taking some steps for fish welfare.

    Illegal Nano tanks?

Just stumbled across a law in Germany that prohibits fish tanks from being smaller then 24" x 12" x 12" (60 litres) which surprised me in comparison to our own fish keeping law (or lack of). source; http://www.peta.org/features/aqua-culture.aspx and Eheim on their nano instructions; source...

ADA to have a new logo?....

Personally I think the original ITC Avant Garde and elegant vector is more timeless and classic then some typeface you'd find on the side of a space shuttle, American missile system or Thunderbirds rocket. Also seems odd for them to say its to prevent fakes instead just confidently rebranding...
