Are the thread sizes interchangeable on the JBL reg and welding bottle? May be a good cost effective solution. Empty cylinders are easy to safely dispose at a normal recycling centre?
Cheers Tim, the 600g may be a little large but I'll try find some photos for scale. Where is the best place for refills? Are they disposable cylinders?
Hey all.
I'm waiting for the big 'I told you so' but tested out the Do!Aqua CO2 starter kit and was disappointed by it lasting 2 days @ 1bps. I'm suspecting this is normal for 35g of CO2 or maybe I had a leak?
Anyways, moving forward I wanted to look at a small good quality setup for an 11...
Interesting, thanks for the heads up.
ADA specifically say;
"The co2 regulator included in this kit is the type that works at a fixed low pressure (0.2-0.3MPa). It can be connected with the na control timer and El Valve.
The El-Valve seems to just be a solenoid?

Hey guys,
I recently treated myself to a Do!Aqua CO2 (against advice :shh: ) as I wasn't too worried by the cost of the cylinders and wanted a small setup. Perhaps as I get used to it I'll upgrade to something bigger. The plan is to buy the cylinders in bulk in advance so I won't be caught...
Thank you for your advice. The tank is only 11 litres. The refills come in 6 packs @£26. Wpuld go through 2 a month, tenner a month isn't bad for a tank? I spend £30 on my phone bill haha :)
Hello all.
Been a long time since I last posted but decided to potentially bite the bullet with a pressurised CO2 setup after experimenting with EasyCarbo, low tech and yeast based CO2.
I'm looking at the Do!Aqua CO2 as a complete solution. I know thats controversial
Before I go...
Cheers, so I'm not going mad! I'm using yeast co2 (yes I know...) but with a ceramic pollen glass style diffuser. I don't think it'll produce the pressure required for an inline? I think my other half isn't going to be happy!
Hey everyone
Its been the first time since I've used CO2 gas and I was wondering is it normal to get a whistling noise from a standard ceramic in tank diffuser? Its diffusing fine, just irritatingly noisy
Cheers,
Neil
Cheers guys. You've confirmed what has already been said in other posts, which is basically its not worth it.
I wouldn't be comfortable with messing with a fire extinguisher, pub cylinder or welding gas unless I was shown for real exactly how to do it so sadly thats off the cards.
Is this...
Hello all
I know similar questions have been asked previously but has anyone had success with any of the available 'mini' pressurised co2 kits on the market?
The reason I ask is that I was eyeing up the Do!Aqua kit for a potential birthday present. This particular set looked...
My Mini-S wouldn't have a cabinet so having a beast of a fire extinguisher or gas cylinder hanging around would just look plain ugly as space is a premium
Just found this though for under a tenner. It all depends on whether it would run out in like 2 weeks - if I ran it very...
Thanks Paulo :)
Sadly my tank is in my bedroom so an airstone is out the question but when I come to start my Mini-S without fauna I could give it a go.
I didn't realise those bottles lasted that long on those kits! I think 3 - 4 months would make it a good investment but a lot of people...
I think I'll leave it for now and save it for my Mini-S, having a think about it I don't want to risk my CRS with experimenting :? .
Cheers all though, I'll keep all my bookmarks for later
Hey everyone :)
Just purchased one of the Nutrafin yeast fermentation CO2 kits with the intention of acquiring an additional cylinder and using a 'T' connector so I change the mixture once a week on each but staggered. This is to be used on my 17 litre tank. I have been reading Georges...
I missed that diagram the first time, was it added after? Great explanation.
So the DOC isn't used by the plant itself but is a waste product, but is still part of the health of the whole system as the bacteria use it to some degree. I'm guessing it would also be a good measure of plant...
The plan is eventually to turn non-CO2 enriched but whilst I've got the flexibility and I'm around more I thought why not try and increase growth some more. However I now am now armed with the knowledge of how to reverse this back to low-tech
Don't worry I'll now stop with my...
No scheme in mind, was only thinking of trying to do water changes with fresh tap and liquid carbon daily an hour before lights on to give it a boost.
I was mainly trying to get my head around the properties of the liquid itself - seems its much better at killing things but really inefficient...
Another quick thought you may be able to answer Clive: Does the majority of the daily reduction of liquid carbon happen in the photo period and is it mainly down to the plants processing it or mostly due to the half life of the liquid itself?
Just pondering.
So if I build the plants up to optimum health with no deficiencies so that energy reserves would be at their highest on the 11watt light and carbon, then introduce the 'soft' blackout and grin and bear it for a week before reintroducing the light at 9watts. Hows that sound for a plan mate...
Finally got my head around that now I've read it a couple of times. Thanks again for taking the time to enlighten my poor brain.
When it comes down to it life on earth is so incredibly complex. Just amazing how something has evolved basically to use such elaborate chemistry to live...
Thanks very much for your advice and knowledge mate . I've got the option of using either a 9watt or an 11watt lamp - currently I'm using the 9 on a 5 hour photoperiod with liquid carbon as I'm throwing caution to the wind since my algae recovery. My plan is to use the 11watt on an...
As we know changes in CO2 concentration can induce algae.
I remember reading somewhere that a plants uptake of liquid carbon works in a different, more indirect way to CO2 gas injection so should be considered something completely different.
Therefore my question is if you stop dosing...
Re: EasyCarbo and Riccardia Chamedryfolia 'Mini/Coral Pellia
Cheers guys, I'll stick it back in the tank then, easy as that! I may start it on half dosage and work up, if I get it to full dose then I can use this useful pump bottle (ADA style) I picked up from Superdrug as its dispenses...
Having a general search reveals that some aquarists have had issues with liquid carbon and liverworts, bladderworts etc. I'm not sure however if this has been another case of ODing the product where you could normally get away with it with hardier species. My only experience of a liquid carbon...
Thank you for the in-depth explanation
You havn't mentioned yeast, how much would you add? I have hard water so thats a bonus. Would the water need de-chlor too?
By syrup do you mean a fresh mix? Would this be mixed before or after adding to the existing stuff?
After reading...
Nice, cheers Mark, theres some good tips in there.
As far as diffusers go I was thinking one of the nano glass types like this;
http://www.thegreenmachineaquatics.com/products/aquatics/co2-system/co2-diffusers/co2-glass-pollen-1000-nano
Thats a great idea about easily being able to transfer any...
Thought I would throw a few questions out there to find out how to get the best out of a yeast based system. A lot of what I've seen equipment-wise seems to be very utilitarian as its a cheap option but I was curious if it could be done with a bit of ADA style.
Sorry if they're pretty...
