    Juwel heliolux

I may be misunderstanding here, apologies if so. The problem is with the manufacturers of the light units themselves not the led industry as a whole. Led chips are produced in batches known as bins, the specs for a led are documented in detail and the bin number will get you the specs. This is...

    Juwel heliolux

Are the multilux controllable or just on/off? Replacing burnt out smd leds is doable but not the most straightforward process. Assuming they're not potted they can be removed by heating the board just enough to melt the solder holding the led and pulling it off with a pair of tweezers. At this...

    light for 648l? ?

Honestly no idea. It's something I'd like to be able to sit down with a par meter and play till I was happy with the what I was seeing but as I have neither a par meter nor the time it's not something I'm going to nut out any time soon.

    light for 648l? ?

http://www.ukmarinelighting.co.uk/evergrow-d2120-timer-marine-aquarium-dimmable-led-unit-208-p.asp This is an evergrow unit, it's deemed suitable for up to a 36x18inch marine tank. I'm not sure how up you are with the expectations of reef keepers regarding par but most seem to shoot for 200um+...

    light for 648l? ?

Hit the proverbial nail so to speak, the problem with led units is not getting the par but spreading it over the tank often requiring multiple units running at a lower output to give you the desired coverage. Not really so different from using halides. Unfortunately for us no one has sat down...

    light for 648l? ?

I've no doubt it would be good enough but you'd need 3 to give you the coverage and I bet they cost a bomb.

    arcadia classica otl led

Already done http://www.ukaps.org/forum/index.php?threads/30941/ It won't out perform triple t5s. Tbh I'm not sure it even matches a single but they certainly have no issues growing plants.

    T8 to T5 advice

I'd go with the twin tube unit. 4 will be waaaaaay to much light for normal use but if you can switch it to 2 tubes then having 4 could be good for providing extra light for photos but otherwise pointless imo

LED options for low tech 120cm tank

If it's a 120x45x45 I'd go with 2 even for a low tech when I bought mine I sat it over my 120 just for some pictures and It was less light than 1x t5ho according to my camera.

    Arcadia Stretch LED

They just get longer Sanj the led density doesn't change I have a 60 and one of the guys at work has the 90 and I compared them side by side and there was no difference in the size or distance between the leds it's just longer.

    LED options

I'm using an arcadia classica stretch and no complaints so far. If you hunt around I think they're the cheapest branded unit. How big is your tank?
  19. OllieNZ

    T5's Old Hat

Not at all!!! T5s are a lot cheaper than leds and grow plants just fine, too many people use wayyy to much light anyway (some of the high power units need to be dimmed as much as 70%!). The only advantage as you've stated is power consumption and if you get a more expensive unit dimming control

Suitable LED for low tech setup?

I agree with sanj should be fine Im using the 60 over a 60x38x35 if its a touch bright then just add some floating plants.

    Lighting Options

Youre correct about spectrum and with a par meter youre leaps ahead just keep lifting the unit till the par is low enough and I dont think the optics will matter at that point because your unit will more than likely be high enough to give good coverage.

Have you seen the arcadia stretch led? If you shop around you would be able to pick up 2 of the cs90f units and still have change. DIY overhead light fittings

Ideally yes. I'm a bit unsure as to whether the cheap ones are up to the job, have a look for the new tmc aqua bar or an arcadia stretch led 50 or 60

    DIY overhead light fittings

Plants use LED light just fine. I think that unit wouldn't be suitable for your tank as its too short. and wouldn't give enough spread. I used 2x 3w(single cree chip) gu10 fitting bulbs over a 60x35x35 for a while and they seemed to work well but if I did the same setup again Id use 3 bulbs not 2.

    What lighting hanging bracket??...

They look like they're designed to have the end of the cable pushed into them and then the bit on the bottom is tightened which clamps it. As for where to buy? Would probably have to be custom made unless you can find something you could adapt

Aquarium Lighthing and the fish health

I'm in agreeance with what you said (sorry if it didn't come across that way). I think we need to know where a fish comes from so we can decide wether it will be suitable to add to our setup. You wouldn't keep apistos with malawis or white clouds with discus for example. But at the same time you...

Aquarium Lighthing and the fish health

I think we still need to pay attention to the nature of the fish we keep. 90% of fish in the hobby will live full lives but not necessarily breed in neutral water and this gives us the option to keep a wide range of fish. I think alot of fish will live longer and be healthier in a high tech...

Aquarium Lighthing and the fish health

Nothing about keeping fish in a glass box is natural. We can never match mother nature. Take a fish that lives in streams or rivers in the wild it would encounter flow rates measured in cubic meters per second all fresh water, not the litres per hour of the same water we have in our tanks. Even...
