    A Little Bit Mossy

Thanks Liam, there are 13 of them in there. I bought them as juveniles but now they are maturing into adults I can see there will be some pairing off activity. So I think I will have to thin them out a bit and re-home half of them 👍👍
  2. REDSTEVEO

    A Little Bit Mossy

Thanks for the positive comments. Now it has practically reached the saturation point again, where the Mosses have expanded to the point where it is getting out of balance. As is the Cryptocoryne Ballansai to the right. The question is how to remove a lot of the Moss without wrecking it again...

    A Little Bit Mossy

Evening All, It's been a while since I've posted anything here in UKAPS. This tank used to be the home of 'The Full Monty' many moons ago and has gone through many transitions since. Having long since stopped keeping and breeding Wild Discus, I've sort of kept it simple and around 6 months...
  4. REDSTEVEO

    Darkness Into The Light

This tank finally reached saturation point. To the point where there was more plants than water. I had two choices, strip it down completely and start again; or remove at least two thirds of the plants. I went for the latter option. So it has gone from this, To this.
  5. REDSTEVEO

    Darkness Into The Light

This tank just keeps on giving. Everyone who visits just says how amazing it looks. I suppose when you see it every day you don't quite appreciate it as much. Much as I like Riccia Fluitans, it is becoming a bit of a nuisance, and sadly I'm still chucking a half bucket full away every two...

    Angel Delight

Today I decided not to keep the breeding pair of Koi Angel Fish. Luckily I have a very good relationship with my local LFS where I bought them from. So I was able to take them back and exchange them for another two, which are smaller, and with any luck won't be a future pair. I just couldn't be...
  7. REDSTEVEO

    Angel Delight

I have got some sponges which came with 2 x Eheim Pre Filters. The sponges are slightly more porous so they don't get clogged too quick or restrict the flow through the filter.
  8. REDSTEVEO

    Angel Delight

Yep but nothing I can do about it now. This is the first time these two Angel Fish have spawned, totally unexpected so therefore not prepared. If they do all disappear the pair will spawn again. But before they do I will cover the inlet basket with a pre filter sponge.
  9. REDSTEVEO

    Angel Delight

This is my tank currently named 'Darkness And Light' I'm thinking of renaming it 'Angel De (low) Light🤣🤣🤣
  10. REDSTEVEO

    Plant ID

Yep that'll be the one. Gorgeous little plant that just keeps on giving. The ones in my tank are not even planted in the substrate, the roots and stalks are embedded amongst the Riccia and just feed of nutrients in the water column.
  11. REDSTEVEO

    Plant ID

My tank 'Darkness & Light' still going strong. Every two weeks I am trimming out a ton of Riccia Fluitans and another plant I forget the name of, and chuck it all in the bin. Can anyone ID the plant in the first photo please. TIA
  12. REDSTEVEO

    Darkness Into The Light

This is what it looks like now after a huge trim, not that SWMBO will notice. Plants Pearling like crazy. I would take out the large Cryptocoryne at the front but the root system is huge so it would make a right mess.
  13. REDSTEVEO

    Darkness Into The Light

Well I didn't know that. Every day is a school day. I am not tearing it down, just sort of control freaking it a bit. I've just done a huge trim and prune. All plants bunched and bagged, at least £100.00 worth of Riccia Fluitans, plus moss, Altananthera Reineckii Min, all on its way shortly to...
  14. REDSTEVEO

    Darkness Into The Light

The difficulty is that the six pieces of wood that are inter linked run virtually the full length of the tank. So to redo it would mean removing all six pieces. Which is practically a tear down of the tank. So not sure what to do.
  15. REDSTEVEO

    Darkness Into The Light

Both wife and son have told me this needs a Mega pruning, and sorting out as they think it is totally overgrown and no longer looks interesting. I am inclined to agree. Under this mass of plants are six inter linked pieces of wood covered in moss and trident fern. I don't want to rip it down...

    Darkness Into The Light

Update as of today following yet another huge pruning session since the 30th October. I have slightly adjusted the EI Dosing, after the 50% water change I now only dose one lot of Macro, and one lot of Micro and leave for two days, then repeat. So like a six day cycle.
  18. REDSTEVEO

    Darkness Into The Light

A very big pruning session just completed. Of everything. The Mosses especially. Some of the ferns, and the lower slow growing plants like the Trident were being buried. The was less 'darkness and light' so after pruning and binning a lot of mosses, I think now there is a bit more shape and...
  19. REDSTEVEO

    Darkness Into The Light

You are right they don't look as vibrant do they. I think it is a combination of things. Light, CO2, and iron. As the overhanging plants have grown out they are shielding the Altananthera from the light, I don't think the CO2 is flowing to them as much as it was, and I have not been keeping an...
  20. REDSTEVEO

    Darkness Into The Light

This is how things are looking today after a 50% water change.
  21. REDSTEVEO

    Darkness Into The Light

The plants are Alternanthera Reineckii Mini.
  22. REDSTEVEO

    Darkness Into The Light

Thanks Clive, it is still doing well even after severe pruning. Sadly I am throwing out tons of Riccia Fluitans every time I do any pruning. Still using EI Dosing, 50% water change once a week. Take care mate.

    Darkness Into The Light

Sorry for the late reply. Originally I had upgraded my lights from T5 Daylight tubes 2 x 54 Watts, to a Fluval Aquasky LED, and a Fluval Aquasky Fresh Plant Pro 3.0 LED. To be honest I wasn't that impressed with either of the LED's, in terms if colour or plant growth. So in the end I removed...
  24. REDSTEVEO

    Darkness Into The Light

Reaching critical mass now. Some severe pruning in order very shortly.
  25. REDSTEVEO

    Darkness Into The Light

Things reaching the critical mass point regarding the plants. Regular pruning needed. Lots of Riccia Fluitans, and the Blyxa Japonica needs thinning out. Offers welcome for either.

    Darkness Into The Light

Thank you for the info. Much obliged.
  27. REDSTEVEO

    Darkness Into The Light

Does anyone know why Riccia Fluitans seems to photosynthesis more than any other plant?
  28. REDSTEVEO

    Darkness Into The Light

I've renamed this planted tank after viewing it today. I think the name sums it up rather well.

Planted Tank For A Single Mated Pair Of Discus

Thanks Tim, it has been a while. Breeding Wild Discus is tough, raising their offspring past the 4 week stage is even tougher, and moving them on to other foods beyond freshly hatched baby brine shrimp was a battle. But I got there in the end. Now having achieved it, I need something a bit more...

Planted Tank For A Single Mated Pair Of Discus

Good Morning everyone, I hope you are all staying safe and well during these troubled times. Some of you might remember my journal, The Full Monty. I think the last time I was on here was October 2019. The reason for that is that I stopped keeping plants and went off on a mission to breed Wild...

    Scape that s#@t!

Definitely can't fault the rock work, it is an awesome replication of nature in a tank, something a lot of people strive to achieve, but most without success! Takashi himself would be proud of this. Steve.

    The Bucephalandra land of bliss

Stunning, absolutely beautiful, looks very relaxing. It looks just like a garden, very natural. Am I right in saying that there are no fish in this setup? Less pollution from fish waste and food etc must make a difference. I am guessing you have plants like this for sale right? Cheers, Steve

Hi John, Yes it is a TRIGON 190 corner tank with a bowed front. I removed the blackout on Monday night  The tank was and still is clean as a whistle, so far so good. I'm keeping my fingers crossed at the moment. I have reduced the lighting period right down and turned off the CO2 so I...

Cheers Ray, Tank blacked out. Nitrate mix ready to roll. I've left a gap which is covered but can easily be lifted to pour them in. Might give the Powerhead a miss for the moment, I'll have to remove all the blackout to put the pump in. I'll post an update as soon as I remove the blackout on...

Hi Jay, Funny you should ask that. Because I'm trying to sell my house I sold all my discus, but now almost a year later still no joy. Possibly, although before I go for that I have read just about every article in the algae section about BGA. I am going to give it the "Blackout" treatment this weekend. 50% water change, switch off the CO2, no food, (no peeking) :? no nutrients whatsoever, unless someone screams loud enough...
