    Advice needed re Discus.

A high protein diet and as varied as possible. Any live food such as live white worms, brine shrimp etc will help. With Discus it is best to try them on as many different foods as possible. Have a look at TA Aquaculture website, look at the dry foods available. Spirulina flake, earthworm flake...

    Advice needed re Discus.

Hi Mell, for me it is a 'no brainer'. Move the pair to the new tank. All the behavioural characteristics you have listed screams out that they want their own space, so let them have it. I've had 4 pairs of Wild Discus trying to spawn in a 400 litre tank, each pair protecting their own space...

Personally I would not use the API test kit for measuring anything at all. The results are inconsistent to say the least. If you are adding Kalkwasser, (not Karwasser) there is no way you GH and KH could be as low as the readings are giving you.

    Praziquintrel

For some reason I think he means Kalkwasser, which is usually dropped into Marine Tanks to boost the calcium levels and keep the hardness up. Although why anybody would add Kalkwasser to a fresh water aquarium I'll never know.

Yes could be the Fluke Solve, which clearly is not working. If I were you I would start doing 50% water changes for the next five days to remove all trace of the meds you have been using, this should also reduce your TDS by at least half. What is the TDS reading of your tap water?

    Discus breeding question

Not a match made in heaven those two. The blue one looks like Blue Diamond and is paired with a Marlboro Red or Red Cover of some kind. If it were me I would separate them and not let them breed. The fry if they survived are not likely to be good specimens. Forget any thought on breeding...

    Discus breeding question

How old are these Discus and what type are they? If you have a compatible breeding pair, all they need are the right conditions regardless of what tank they are in, so good water and good food. A 46 litre tank is way too small to set up as a breeding tank. You need something like a 20 inch cube...

Emergency fish medicines to always keep on hand

Hey Lindy, Thanks for the tip, I will check these out in the morning. For information here are the breakdown of costs if I was to go for them from Germany. 6x Curipera Alenquer Red 13-15cm 259 EUR each = 1554 EUR 6x Tefe Green & Red Spotted 13-14cm 149 EUR each = 894 EUR Fish total: 2448 EUR...

Cheers Alto, I was thinking along the same lines in number of fish, but I will certainly take on all your other points on board. I am already weighing up the cost of driving over there to pick up the fish myself. I will ask him all those questions when he emails me back with the pictures...

Link to video on YouTube for ultimate home made discus food

Hi roadmaster, No I have had them for a month or two. They have been raised on a diet of almost exclusively beef heart as most breeders tend to do. Hi flygia, Never say never I say, and I leave no stone unturned in the quest for knowledge, especially where discus are concerned. I watched the whole video and made notes on the method and the ingredients. It was strange how Carl Weiss appears to be being interviewed, and every now and then...

    circler white things

Sorry mate, I was just browsing the forums and wasn't paying much attention to the dates, lesson learnt - note to self, don't be browsing at midnight when you are knackered! What did you finish up using in the end or have I missed that as well. Cheers Steve

    circler white things

That's a horrible looking parasitic worm you have got there. Have you been feeding lots of live foods, it's possibly got in there with the live food especially if it is worms of any kind. Not properly treated they will kill the fish sooner or later. If it is only one or two fish you might be...

    Buying Discus in the UK?

Well I had a day off work today so on an impulse I drove to Clitheroe near Burnley to pay a visit to Steve Punchard's Discus shop at Aquascope. Buying Discus in the UK?

Hi there, I enjoyed this article. I have kept discus previously over about fifteen years but it is always good to refresh your knowledge. Can I ask on question? What is 'peepering' and what do you mean by it. I am guessing you might mean 'peppering' but I am not sure. Thanks, Steve

    Cory laying on side, dying?

I have kept two Cory Sterbai in my tank with CO2 running for the last two years and I fed frozen blood worm maybe twice a week and never had a problem. But like others have suggested I am inclined that they either ate the blood worm while it was still frozen or just ate too much and became...

Newly Acquired Fish Dying - Advice Appreciated

Mark, I have just picked up on this thread. cycling a tank with fry...

Sounds to me like you are good to go also. A friend of mine used to add fry from either Black mollies or guppies right from the start and had no problem at all. These were fed minimally. Planted Discus Tanks

I dunno either, its just something about their grace and demeanour, when they get to know you its brilliant. Mine used to take flake food from my hand when feeding them. Hi, I put my house up for sale over a year ago and thinking it was going to sell very quickly I got rid of all my discus and just kept a basic planted tank. I am really missing my discus fish but I have promised her that must be obeyed that I would not buy any more until we moved house. Fat...

    Which shoaling fish?

    Which shoaling fish?

I have heard that Ember Tetras are a great shoaling fish and look more natural than say Cardinals. I read somewhere that if you want your smaller fish to really shoal you need to add a trigger or target fish. Something fairly big which keeps the tetras in a tight shoal. Has anyone got any...
