    Lighting

Twinstar is a very good led, grows any plant you want, controllable and very very good value for money. I had one for a while. All depends what your plans are regarding your tank, co2 high light or low light no co2 etc.

    Kessil or Chihiros vivid 2

Vivid for me, I had some kessils, much prefer the vivid. Colour is much better in my opinion. The kessils have a huge following but I much prefer the vivid.

    Light hanging kit

I bought mine through Ali express. Aquasabi allowed me to create a link for you that's all 😉 The bracket is purely just a bracket and all the fixings are attached to it when you secure the light if that makes sense. I can try to grab a few pics if that helps. If I remember right all the fixings...

    Light hanging kit

I'm using a chihiros bracket that fixes on the back of the tank, suspended from the two brackets. Chihiros - Stand for hanging VIVID & WRGB Suitable for chihiros' wrgb which would be the same size as a twinstar. I was looking at the EA light kit but couldn't source one so took a punt on the...

    Night lighting

It's not for me to view the tank, just a little bit of light so I don't startle the fish. I'll use a night light for now.

    Night lighting

Not really as then the lights in the kitchen and movement throughout the day would affect the plants and the fish. Also my lights come on at 1300 so I can see the tank after work. Also in the summer afternoon light can hit the tank so I need to make sure co2 levels are spot on.

    Night lighting

If they do sleep I don't think it's for long, as when I get up between 3am and 4am they are pretty active and can often feed the cories at that time so it gets past the minnows.

    Night lighting

I've been using my daughters night light plugged in on the other side of the room, which like you say stops the room being in total darkness. I've only been doing that for 2 weeks so I may carry on using that. Was just trying to find out if anyone was using something to deter their fish from...

    Night lighting

Thanks Andrew. To be honest it's not the look I am after, and with manzanita sticking out of the top it could be quite tricky. I thought the same thing however after doing some research online I was starting to believe that certain colours wouldn't affect the plants. I thought it was a long...

    Night lighting

Thanks, that's something along the lines of what I was thinking, just wanted some advice so I didn't extend the photoperiod for the plants. Last thing I want is some bba growing.

    Night lighting

Hi all, I wanted to get everyone's opinions on small night lights or back lights. I've had a few fish jump out recently and it's not great really so I want to try and stop them. Myself and my mrs either start work early am or finish work around midnight, so lights can go on after a long period...

Aquaray Grobeam Tiles or Twinstar Light

The 8 channel can control up to 4 tiles as I used to have 4 on one controller. I would keep it just in case as the colour rendition is good on the colour plus and you may need it.
  13. SRP3006

Aquaray Grobeam Tiles or Twinstar Light

Good price, you may find 3 to be a bit overkill due to the overlap, they advertise 24in by 24 but in reality it's more like 18in by 18in. Depending on your scape I'd probably be inclined to put the colour plus tile in the centre [emoji106]

Aquaray Grobeam Tiles or Twinstar Light

Fair point [emoji6],@maj74 to be honest I'd try the tmcs if you already have the controller. They can be picked up relatively cheaply on ebay, just be a little mindful of the heat generated from the top of the light if you are planning on mounting inside the hood. You will probably need 2 1500...

Aquaray Grobeam Tiles or Twinstar Light

I struggled to get anything growing with the TMCs (could be me) so I'd definitely go with the Twinstar. The TMC lack power and the shimmer is quite intense. Twinstar would be a good choice, or even chihiros vivid.

    Updating lighting advice

TBH I don't want to grow a carpet at the moment, I just don't want my light choices to limit the plants I can grow. Especially red plants and certain stem plants. Also the red spot beams coming from my leds really irritate me. Sent from my MAR-LX1A using Tapatalk

That could work as it could be inside the hood itself, just above the water, it also wouldn't effect me removing the hood. Sent from my MAR-LX1A using Tapatalk

    Updating lighting advice

I have a nd aquatics hood, I don't use the cover as it's a pita. But the hood needs to come off for water changes and substrate depth trimming etc, as the 2ft depth makes it hard work. Im not great at DIY at all and I struggle to see how I would attach the light without it being a nightmare when...

That's a hefty price tag after buying the extra add on controller, is the extra worth it compared to a prime hd? Just curious to be honest. Without any real data on the lights its hard to compare one to one with statistics. Also would 2 360x's give me enough coverage on my footprint, ie not...

    Ai prime HD freshwater settings?

I too have been looking at upgrading to these lights, and can't decide between kessil and prime hd. Alto, what made you choose Kessil over AI prime? Also what have you heard about the newer versions, like you say there doesn't seem to be much info at all. Sent from my MAR-LX1A using Tapatalk

Gently floated the idea and price of these lights to the other half. No way I could push that boundary any further [emoji19] I have read quite a few reviews about these lights but always good to get someone's opinion. It's also difficult to find any real par data for the kessils or AI prime...

    Updating lighting advice

I have looked at kessils and TBH i think I need 3 above my tank. They are said to give a 24x24in spread (read 16x16in real terms I expect). I believe they would be a massive improvement on the TMCs. I have looked at twinstar as they are highly recommended and can see plenty of aquascapes with...

    Updating lighting advice

Hi all, Tank has been running for a while under 3 Tmc grobeam 1500 tiles. The tiles are on 100% but can't get the colours to really pop on the plants. Also the colour plus version sends a few red beams into the tank which I'm really not a fan of. So I'm after a led, that can punch down to...

    TMC grobeam 1500 tile

I'll check out those scapes and lighting co2 used etc. I'll look into another tile aswell. plenty of information to try and absorb. DSM is an option for me as daily water changes could be a issue.

    TMC grobeam 1500 tile

With regards to the set up, I will be running a fx6 with a full length spray bar and a fluval 306 with minimal media inside and inline diffuser with spray bar. Backed up by several koralias. Which 'should' give me adequate flow. That's why I don't want the lights to be my stumbling block so to...

    TMC grobeam 1500 tile

That's why I was thinking maybe 2 t5s or even 4 if you guys think I will need it. Along side my leds which I can set at different outputs. They are very cheap compared to leds for the original outlay. The tank itself is 60cm tall. Take off a bit for substrate at the bottom and water level at...

    TMC grobeam 1500 tile

Thank you very much, as you say you are sceptical, so am I. That's why I'm trying to figure out if i should supplement the leds with a set of t5s for example. I'm afraid kessils are out of my price range somewhat [emoji58] I had these lights over a larger (48x30x24) Malawi mbuna aquarium for 3...

    TMC grobeam 1500 tile

Thanks, they are super bright to the eye. Great little tool that. So after punching in the numbers it comes back with a par rating of 12 at substrate. Which is quite low according to what I've read.
  42. SRP3006

    TMC grobeam 1500 tile

Thank you for taking the time to look that up. yes I've read most of that before online and it's similar to what TMC have said to me. The only thing I struggle with is the lumens, just over 4000 lumens for 2 tiles over a 400 litre tank gives me 10 lumens per litre which is advertised as low...

Hi all, Currently planning setting up a high tech 48x24x24 aquarium, can anyone help me with my lights.
