Some insect larvae can eat small fry and baby shrimp, but I've never had any issues. I doubt what you see includes daphnia, as it has to be introduced. I remember a guy at my LFS said there are daphnia 'spores' in the air! Lol...
I currently keep CPD's and they never to go the surface. All flake food should eventually sink, I just crush mine up and sprinkle it around the outflow.
I've seen them advertised before, probably useful in emergency situations but if your filters are running correctly I don't really see the need in magic potions!
Must be quite a while ago; He's still moaning about LED's and mentions that there aren't any other planted tank stores in the UK.
Very interesting though, thanks for the post.
Took me a while, starting with a tiny 10 litre spare tank from her parents garage for the bookshelf. Little did she know that would turn into a P@H cube and a dedicated cupboard...
Now I've just persuaded her to let me keep shrimp in the 10l. :D
Plantsalive.co.uk ??
Don't use plantedtanks, the few plants that I received were in very bad condition, they haven't given me a refund and I never received any replies to my emails. Much better to buy decent plants from enthusiasts (not people trying to make a quick buck).
I used plantedtanks and wasn't impressed at all, only a couple of the plants I ordered were received, some of them were very poor quality. I still haven't received a refund for the plants that I don't have either. Have a look on the plant tank and The green machine?
Just came across the full series of Amazon Abyss on SeeSaw, a small expedition into the Amazon. There's a few decent shots of biotopes and tropical fish, could be better but well worth a watch if you're bored.

Hi,
Have a google of 'fishless cycling'. Basically you can use ammonia as a substitute for real fish, the only place I found it was homebase. Also you can use nutrafin cycle or api stress zyme to help speed it up a little.
Anybody else have this problem or is it just me?
Every independent local fish shop I've visited recently has been pretty sub-standard for fish, and for the planted aquarium they are utter useless!
Pets at home seem to be the best for quality and selection, with both livestock and plants! I...
Jungle and the Dutch style do seem more prevalent with this shape, but I just love iwagumi, and hope to use this as an influence in mine but realise hardscaping will be challenging, and obviously this style suits the standard tank shape more than a cube. Opinions?
Hi guys,
I've had my humble P@H cube tank cycling for a while now, giving me time to decide what direction I want to go with it. I've read and learnt lots from reading journals on here and also researching plant choice, but I'd like a bit of inspiration for this cube shape as I can't make my...
The thing is when the lights are off the plants will be consuming O2 and so competing with the fish. In light stocking levels this shouldn't be an issue as there should be plenty of O2 from the plants. If you look at amano et al they all use additional aeration a few hours after lights off
So I'm trying to get everything sorted so I can finally start planting; and I'm wondering which liquid fertiliser to get.
I've heard good things about Tropica, but I've just come across the APF stuff. Anyone used this? Looks pretty good value if it's decent. I'm a little worried though as it...
What lights did you order? Looks like a nice sized tank. Personally I would take out a few rocks, seems a little cluttered at the moment but may be ok once you ave the plants in!
I've been to my store a few times and it's always pretty dire to say the least, not even half full. Might just be m store though! Whats their selection like usually?
Interesting topic. PAH is and always will be a 'supermarket' pet shop. As is always the case with these companies, not all the staff will get adequate training, but they will have policy and guidelines in place that at least attempt to do so. You may have been served by someone who hasn't...
