    My vivarium (pic heavy)

:jawdrop  That's fantastic! Could you remind me of the planting? Specifically the small leaved plants around the right and top of the viv :) Congrats on your competition win too! I'm really not surprised, it's an amazing setup.

Lovely vivarium! Congrats :) How many inhabitants are there? Can you tell me what this plant is? -

Hanging planters, use emmersed plants on a aquarium.

They look great :) Should add this to the list Gill was starting for cheap alternatives. Nice find :) Found on eBay also with free shipping, for £3.91: http://www.amazon.co.uk/BlissHome-Inter ... d_sim_kh_2 http://www.amazon.co.uk/BlissHome-Inter ... 046&sr=1-1

Emersed HC Using Compost & Propagator!

Looks great James :) I've had moderate success growing glosso in a small plastic tub with a lid and some old ADA aquasoil. I've neglected it now, but it's still alive :)

Producing CO2 in a propogator without using pressurised gas.

Hey guys. I just stumbled on an idea which I may be tempted to try out if I have the time. I've read here that you can use peat in the substrate of your propogator which produces CO2 as it decomposes. I thought it was quite an interesting idea! After a very brief search, I found this PDF...

    Matt's emersed setup

I'm going down the compost route, as Supercoley suggested. I'm just concerned the pots I'm going to use (standard tropica/AquaFleur) won't hold the compost too well. What I might do is buy some small plastic pots from homebase or something. I'll start my own thread this weekend if I get too...

    Dave Spencer`s Attempt.

Nice one Dave :) Great looking plants! I've spent the last few evenings prepping to get something started. I'm going down the potting compost route, using an small clearseal tank I've got kicking about. I'm going to give a few things a try :) I've got a lot of crypts I need to pull from a...

    Matt's emersed setup

Thinking about it, I don't actually know what crypts I have at the moment, so they're kinda useless untill I ID them! I'll have to post up some photos in the plant section to get confirmation IDs! :D

I bought some plant pot tags in Wilko at lunch. One step closer

    Matt's emersed setup

Hmn, interesting stuff... I have a little clearseal tank (about 40cm) with a black plastic lid I could use to start me off. It's just finding somewhere to put it! :) So you reckon soil is the way forward at the moment? I'm looking to grow on crypts and mosses I think.

    Matt's emersed setup

Got plenty of pots, just looking at cheap propagators. £4 for a basic 38x24" with plastic lid from Homebase is OK. Hey, if I were to buy rockwool plugs, what size would I need? I'm guessing the 1" square ones?

    Matt's emersed setup

Sounds great Matt :) The more I read about people's experiences with home propogation, the more I want to give it a try...

    Dave Spencer`s Attempt.

Can't wait for a few pics Dave :) It really is making me want to try this out, seeing as I have a shed load of spare plants at the moment!

    Dave Spencer`s Attempt.

I have an outdoor mini grow thing which I might be able to stick some smaller trays into. It's one of those plastic shelf things covered in plastc, with a zip front. Anyone think this'd be OK? Not sure on night time temps...

    Dave Spencer`s Attempt.

Really interesting Dave... I'm considering where I might be able to set up something small like this in my flat! How does the humidity work, just heating water in the base and keeping the lid on?

    My emersed setup

That's a really interesting setup Nigel. I haven't got the first idea about how this sort of thing works, but it's certainly sparking a little bit of an interest :) What are you growing at the moment?

    Do We Definitely Need CO2?

I've seen a grow unit where groups of plants are in plastic containers, with clear lids, and CO2 fed straight into the containers, giving a pocket of CO2 trapped in the container. No fancy diffusers or anything, just tubing into the container. Seemed to be working very well :)
