We've got malm in our house and knowing how they are built I absolutely wouldn't put anything heavy on them. They even tell you on the instructions to not put a TV on them. The way they are built it would just fold if the back panel gave way or came loose.
you are correct and you're not missing anything!
Both the normal and plus can be used braceless or with the lid. The dearer plus has the upgraded LED's with no lid as its not needed. The cheaper version comes with the lid to house the T5 lamps
Thanks, That tank was my IAPLC entry from 2012 and Im a new moderator from today with a bunch of others :)
There are a few pics of hardscape from the Hannover comp below. Ill have to dig out some of the final images a most of them went onto Facebook
Antoni with his tank
Antoni glueing his...
Hi mossman. Congrats on the new tank, they've great for scaping in and that depth front to back is really useful! We used them on a scaping comp in Hannover and the quality is right up there.
Re the foam they don't come with any but you should have had a silver brace around the bottom of the...
perfect chance for a re-scape :)
stick em in a bucket and run your filter through it while you swap the tank with the retailer. Or better still show the retailer some pics and get them to give you a new tank on a promise of return of the old once swapped. Tell them you'll bill them for 80...
Id need to sell a kidney and a heart to afford one of their tanks now after the takeover!
I did ask but its about £520 for a 120x50x45 from TGM. I had a look at one of the tanks from their supplier but again its not really silicon free like a TMC or ADA. The ND tank for the same size was £237...
Agree with what Andy D said about the Juwel above. The other thing is that the lid does provide some bracing to the tank which is how they get away with lower glass thicknesses. If you remove the lid (and others have done it successfully) you will end up with a bulging front pane of glass. As...
They are good solid tanks but I find them a little too tall for me as Im a short blahblahblahblah! (I used to have a rio 125)
Also youve just imagined upgrading half of it already before youve bought it so is the complete unit a false economy now? Removing the internal filter will give you more room in...
Thanks chaps.
A little too much silicon for my liking to be honest but the work does look very neat so great for the price.
Im having trouble finding anyone in the UK that can do ADA quality silicon but they dont do the size i want as I want to go deeper into the tank with a 120x50x45cm
ive also been thinking the same for a 120cm. Ive got one but it has quite a bit of silicon on it and Ive really been struggling to find a good priced braceless with minimal silicon.
Id also be interested in seeing any of their recent work and how much silicon they use if customers could pop...
makes me nervous about mine now as ive been running it since 2009 but it has always been taped up so the dial cant move.
I might get one of those controllers mentioned above to regulate it. Sorry to hear about your plant and fish losses Claire :(
i think i must be used to it. Its pain to do video with though as checked with Mark due having to do a custom white balance.
Yes the £100 is nasty to deal with but the last one ran for 2 years before it popped and I dont think it looked any different with the replacement. Ideally I'd like to...
oops yes you're right. just checked and its got all sides butted up to the bottom plate. its my 90cm (not an ada tank) that rests on the bottom plate. apologies for the duff info!! :(
thats a realy good price for the NA. let us know how it goes if it it gets here ok. I think the stainless one I had made was about 80 quid in the end but the fittings were made for earthquakes!
heres mine

its been done before on a Rio125 but it did bow a bit at the front i believe. How much it will bow on a 180 is anyones guess but I'd be careful when filling if you do do it. what mm is the glass on a 180?
i would say the first one would be more stable due to the low legs. If the flat top is at risk of bowing you could always brace it with a length of wood inside. Dont get them wet on the edges either as they are chipboard in places. Gerneral ikea stuff is pretty strong and well made
Re: Replacing T5 Ballast in Lumminaire (EJQ-Trading 2x24w us
great writeup LD. I sold mine to my mate and its still ok at the moment but at least if it goes pop there's some clear advice here.
i think you missed the price on the AE website, £190 is for float glass. theres a drop down box to change it to opti which make it £298.
I can vouch for the quality of the AQltd glass and silicon as its second to none on mine although delivery took a long time which they may have sorted now...
im sure i read on some juwel black sealant i bought once that it said it had anti fungal properties. I may have been wrong though as it was several years ago!
It says safe to go with potable water so I would have thought it would be ok. Dont the aquarium sealants have an anti fungicde though to stop them going mouldy? Not sure if its always needed though.
as james says they are an interference fit so are quite tight and wont come off. A cup of hot water can save you some money in having to buy a replacement set!
Re: TGM backgrounds
Git!
i think the staic version has alwyas been that price nick. it was the self adhesive one that was cheaper when I was looking in the shop for mine and the roll i got was £9
Ive just done exactly the same with my new tank due to the AS leaching amonia. As Dave Spencer has suggested ill just leave it in the filter when its spent and use it as media.
sorry for the non reply george, not been on here much. I should be able to sort out the hanger and Ill pm you about it. Ive just screwed mine to the cab as Im scaping my new tank today and it looks the biz :D
Re the lights, I was thinking of exactly the same things. Id asked Dan about the 2...
not really sure on the ph controller sorry (mine is sitting in a box unused) but I think youve still got a problem with losing co2 somewhere as a 2kg at 1bps should last a LOT longer than two weeks, even if its running 24/7. It might be worth testing all your other connections with fairy liquid...
i got mine from lidl on a special for 3 quid. pretty good ones too but probably not in stock now.
I did notice the other day that B&Q have them at the moment in a big stand. £3.98 each or 3 for £10. & day digital ones too.
dont think hardly anyone on here uses them although ADA do still sell them. Not sure on the pros/cons as to not using them though. personally with amazonia i wouldnt bother
Re: DIY ADA Style Stand
im guessing you may have already seen it but this guide is wuite good.

Re: DIY ADA Style Stand
i had a look around for the laminate but it costs a fortune and ended up with the same price as buying a cabinet from aquariums ltd in the end! Ill try and dig up the links as I think i saved them somewhere
TGM had two in the glass ADA cabinet when I was there yesterday so give them a ring. I think one was about £15.99 and the other a couple of quid more. depends on the glass thickness of your tank but dont hold me to the pricing as its only from memory! Really want one for my 90cm when it...
Do!Aqua worked out at £160 ish for in/outflow on a 17mm connection so kind of knocked it out my price range to be honest. I quite lke the cal aqua stuff though which is a more reasonable price
you can see the bow in the top of this pic but it looks more severe when you put a ruler against it. Tank has been running like this for about 2 years but I probably wouldnt do it again if I had the choice, especially if it was somewhere above any carpet!
Ive done it on my 60cm clearseal tank (See Icarus Ville in sig below) but Ive only removed the front brace and kept the rear brace intact. It does however bulge out at an alarming rate and Im always wondering if it was a good idea or not so Im hoping to replace it with a proper rimless in the...
ive got a hydor 300w on my tetratec ex1200. Best thing I bought IMO and keeps more equipment out of the tank. They can be had for about £34 delivered off interweb if you look around so not much more than buying two internal heaters
Re: My Water Changer
ive done a similar thing with mine that was prompted from this thread. setup a hose to put water into the tank after emptying into cans then of course realised the sink was under the tank in height so have started drawing off with this method and no need for a pump. Ive...
i did fluid dynamics in uni and didnt really understand it then either! I think im going to get a cheapo heater then get a 300w hydor later on as I have just sourced an ex1200 from a kindly member on here which ill get next month
One thing I was thinking of was that the sera 900...
thanks all, looks like its decision time as to whether to bite the bullet and get the filter and heater at the same time?
if i got the 200w and used reducers on the tetratec later would it impede the flow but going from 16mm to 12mm then back up to 16mm?
I managed to stupidly shatter my heater last night doing a water change when I pulled out the wrong plug and didnt turn it off. Im looking at what to replace it with and may go with a hydor external instead of an internal and my questions are;
will my fish be ok with the colder water whch is...
thats a pain. need to upgrade my lighting so ive been bidding on a few recently but not got anywhere. was on a 4*24w T5 the other night but didnt put a high enough bid in at the end :(
Re: My Water Changer
londondragon, do you have a description of that pump you bought off ebay as the link in your first post goes to the item but its expired. just looking at setting one of these up :)
