Have you thought about getting some Ada hornwood from Tgm now it’s half price? You could probably fill a 60cm scape for a hundred quid at the moment and it will be cheaper than shipping manzi over
Try his forum directly if you do t have Facebook. https://barrreport.com/threads/manzanita-this-year.14278/
Re filter I’ve always fancied getting a g6 for the handy cleaning. Not tried an oase filter sorry
You could contact Tom Barr directly on Facebook. He sells and ships big boxes of Manzi. You could probably make your money back by picking the pieces you want then selling the others on eBay.
If you are after a custom tank near to 60p then have a word with Nick Chan of aquarium cabinet...
Cubes are a pita to scape. Go with a mini-m
Re scaping the nano tanks. If you’re going low tech you’ll need to reduce the light output from the big leds. I usually smash loads of co2 into my high tech nanos at the beginning and keep them unstocked. Shrimp seem to do quite well in high co2 if...
Welcome back Dean. I am also back after a bit of an outage at home.
Currently designing a Dennelle scapers tank in my kitchen which Ill be putting pics up of soon.
If you want a Mini-m from the UK then sadly they are sold out at the main distributer Greenmachine. There may be some in the...
The deadline for the AGA entry is tomorrow (sept 18th) so if you're thinking of entering then pop over there to register and get your scapes in!
http://enter.aquatic-gardeners.org/?&op=showpage&name=index
Ill be entering this (with plants in)
what settings are you using on the camera?
Can you see the lights above the tank through the lens? (if so try and fix it so you can't, i.e. flag it with some card or something)
TGM blue stone is a schist so you may get some in a garden centre or quarry or they do mail order.
Manten is very rare (and expensive!) in the UK and the only place Ive found is TGM or theres a guy in stafford sells it on ebay as Mantens stone.
If you want anything like big boxes of seiryu or...
akadama tends to suck all the minerals out of tank water. Just wondering if its the case here or have the crypt roots taken over the substrate and clogged it up? Definately add ferts and change the water more often to see if it makes a difference plus all plants need some sort of carbon whether...
My 120x45x45 is optiwhite in the front panel only and I dont notice any green in the back panel.
If I was buying new though Id go all optiwhite (mine was second hand)
Hmm good point but Ive done it personally before and its not caused any problems and you've got lots of plants in their to gobble up some of the ammonia.
Hopefully someone with better chemistry experience than me will be able to chip in. If in doubt then delay the fish another week as it...
Its just pumice so should be fine but as you say you may want to cap a bit more soil on top if its quite low.
If you are re-planting you can try and lower the water level quite low which makes planting easier if there are no fish in there yet.
Ill leave these links here from the search. By all accounts you will get a good quality tank its just the "when" thats always up in the air with them :(
My 90cm was from them before they went bust the last time and changed their name and I had the same problems with delivery. (The tank is...
Great that there's a UK comp but I wont be entering due to this. Keeping a new scape under wraps for several months just stifles the hobby in my opinion. Fair enough to not show the final image of the tank so it can be used for J&K's promotion but to not show any setup and progress with others...
What Vink said above :)
I usually keep my filter running through a bucket of water when I re-scape so it keeps the bacteria alive ready for the new tank.
I read an article from Nathan on PFK a few years back that suggested a lot of the bacteria still survives even after you stop the filter...
Ive got 50 odd kilos of Seiryu in there so Im guessing thats the source but the unit has been in there running since the beginning of the year with no problems up until about a month ago and hadnt fuzzed up before
and water is really soft as im in wales :)
i think mines goosed.
To be fair it does seem to work when its running but mine started collecting calcium all over the diode and blocking the metal part. Ive had it in de-scaler which removes it overnight only to find it re-grows all the deposits within days after that :(
Is anyone from UKAPS entering? Ive put my IAPLC tank in to see how it gets on as theyve been advertising it as a European competition.
Deadline is tonight and quite easy to enter if you've already got a pic ready.

I think ND will be your best bet if you dont want to spend on an ADA (lots of dollar!) then a cab from somewhere else.
It looks like aquariums ltd have started up again under a different name but others have had problems with long build times and deliveries in the past (including me) plus they...
It wont look like that in real life although there will be a green tint. The NA-green bulb is very hard to photograph as if you dont get the white balance correct on the camera it will look odd like it does in Juris photo.
Thats great news then and Ill prepare my paper hat now :)
I was thinking they had moved the operation over to the states so would be liable to the usual taxes and import fees but if its still in portugal then great :) Here's hoping they also consider selling separately as I quite like their...
The thing with the prices above and saying the ADA is double is a bit misleading. If Aquavas do a straight $ -> £ conversion depending on the current exchange rate Ill eat my hat as historically in good ole rip off britain $4000 in the US means £4000 here.
PS, ADA cabs must have gold brackets...
i think andy is on hols at the moment which is why he hasnt answered. it was from tom barr and as above he's a member on ukaps as plantbrain. cracking service he provides all the way from the states :) Ive been eyeing up some of the quality pieces hes got for sale on another forum.
balls :( I was really looking forward to this and had already booked leave so I could help out on the friday.
we need to look into getting a national meet together somehow. Ill miss watching Iain fall flat on his face again after many many many alcoholic drinks!
its got more exposure now though ian but I expect the markup was pretty high and thus the price. you could get a massive box full off tom barr for $200 a while back. Use what you want and sell the rest cheap to make some money back.
it doesnt grow here unfortunately. only place ive seen it in pictures is high altitude mountains and Tom Barr in the USA kindly collects loads of it each year in his truck and sells it. Dont really know why any uk retailers havent cottoned onto it
looks super knarly! are you the first to use it in a uk scape iain cos ive not seen it in any yet?
im quite surprised about the params as it looks like something that would leach like mad! lol
If hes using the easycarbo as he mentioned then it "should" be possible to grow these "glossostigma, pogostemen helferi and HC". Co2 would help of course but its only an 8 litre tank.
Although Ive never managed to grow glosso in any tanks whereas others find it a weed so I may be missing...
god thats an old thread!
In answer to the ops question then yes it is possible to grow those plants in there but you'd be better off with a filter attached. You really have to watch your water doesnt go icky too with the small volume in there so you have to keep on top of water changes...
maybe theyve changed procedures then. hopefully they have
When I ordered mine the order stalled for two days then they sent me a mail saying they were refunding the stone amount and they had despatched the filter :( maybe they were just out of stock!
zooplus.de wouldnt ship stones to the UK when I ordered my filter.
if its andy aquatics that youve seen the 10kg and 20kg stones in then it will be varied in the box. the 10Kg is used to be made by splitting a 20kg so its the same stones. I used a 20Kg and some existing to do my 90cm in the...
If Id have put crypts there then I may have had problems but there was a good few inches of aquasoil above and I dont tend to move plants around anyway as you just end up with amonia spikes. Also it was just stems planted above this which dont root deeply :)
Cracking weekend full of great aquascaping, good friends and nice food and beer! The level of the scapes stepped up again this year and we all commented how great it was that not one scape was the same as any other.
Me and Graeme nearly didnt get home on the Sunday night as our 19:16 train got...
lets hope they sort out the voting for next time as I'd like to see the real outcome from real votes, ie logged via IP at least or as above registering to vote. I was tracking this through the voting stages and if anyone thinks it was legit they need their head testing, lol
yes there was stuff on sale there but also some suppliers were there with all their gear which wasn't for sale as they had distributers there they didnt want to upset! was very confusing looking at stuff then trying to buy it only toi be told it wasnt for sale! Think aquajardin will be there...
Cheers Paulo, staying in the hotel around the corner but thanks anyway :) Got the train tickets booked now for saturday morning, first class on the way home was only two quid dearer than standard!
is the glamour/porno show on again next door? interesting tube ride home to Paulo's on the saturday night last year with all sorts of "products" sticking out the customers bags!!
theres a great interview with that one here
http://peleblogs.blogspot.com/2012/02/en-el-foco-delicate-world-de-long-tran.html?m=1
he used steel bars to build it :)
Really want to get me some of that Unzan stone!!! Anyone know if its just really knurly black lava?
have a look at these two videos of them setting up a massive tank in the ada gallery.
Notice how they use what looks like coir matt at the back to stop the aqua soil from spreading into the...
Just to check but did you know that seachem flourish excel (and easycarbo) can damage (and melt) vallis? Just wondering if this is one of the reasons you're getting the biofilm from them melting?
Also, I don't think that the liquid co2 can be affected by the surface agitation at night as its...
