Lovely hardscape and the plants have filled in really well with it. The Hue background looks great and its something Ive been wanting to try but I was considering going with frosted perspex like the ADA ones. I hadn't thought of just doing a film with the Hue. The blue night glow you've got...
That would be great if you could check. Can pay on paypal?
Yep I did enter and got my results. I haven't posted yet as the letter was a bit ambiguous on what could or could not be posted so I was holding off.
Thread resurrection!
Thought I'd better put up the final picture for this tank. I got pretty bummed with it towards the end and wasn't happy with it when the photo was taken for IAPLC 2014 as I'd not spent enough time on it
Anyway, this was the image for IAPLC 2014 where it ranked #282 so a...
a little detail shot of my tank before the comp.
Frederic Fuss has put up a great thread on the Nordic Scapers group on Facebook and there are tons of details shots from this years IAPLC entries - https://www.facebook.com/groups/672957169445942/ Cant find a direct link to the post but this is...
No probs. The final updates for this will be the detail shots, maybe a video and the final tank shot once the IAPLC results are released.
Unfortunatley this tank is coming down next week as Nordic Reef UK are sending me over an Innovative Marine SR-80 to try out :)
I think it will be big...
Hi Laurie
The 24hr co2 has been done before by other people on here. You have to ensure that the co2 isnt too high. ie I was running mine so I got green on the drop checker constantly and it never approched yellow. You also have to cater it to your fish and if you have any that dont like co2...
sorry for the lack of updates with this. Ive got some detail shots I need to edit and post so will get them up.
I managed to get my IAPLC photo in before the deadline and Ill also be putting this into the AGA if I dont forget like last year! I was pretty pleased how it turned out in the end...
Thats going to be a lovely tank when it grows in!
Re you algae problems Id probably turn off that middle kessil as its a bit of overkill on startup. I didnt spot it but whats your lighting period during a day?
I got some fish! 50 odd Black Neons to make a nice shoal
Got fish! Black neon shoal into the Tropica 120cm tank. by Stu Worrall, on Flickr
everything has been pretty fluid with this tank. One main filter and the co2 has been on 24hrs. Ive been turning the light on when I get in and off...
Thanks :) He's only temporary. Trying to pick a shoal to go in there but undecided at the moment. Have been thinking of Galaxy Rasbora, Blue Emperor Tetra, Boraras Brigittae, Lemon Tetra or something else?
Cheers everybody. Its nice to be planting in something bigger than my usual with such good support from here :)
its 1050lphr so Im way behind the 10x rule but I have got the skimmer going as well. and I seem to have dropped lucky. I have got a 350T to go on this but haven't had room in the cab...
Sorry for the lack of updates folks. Family and the two jobs getting in the way again! Ill go through he questions above later and send replies.
Some updates
This was after a trim and re-filling the other week. You can see on the pic below how the gaps in the carpet have filled up so Im...
No idea on par values sorry as I don't have a meter. At the moment the spread is enough for the 120 and the hc on the front carpet is crawling which was my main concern about moving to LEDs.
Some of the right back stems aren't growing as well (left is fine)but I think that's due to my...
Thanks all and sorry for my lack of reply. After my last post I managed to get a real nasty sick bug that's torn its way through our house this week leaving a trail of destruction! The tank will be planted when u get back from Hanover
Thanks Dantrasy. How much have I got left? About two rocks!!! I think Ive used about 80-90kg in there as I had to re-do some of the rock work to make it more secure underneath so a lot is buried.
Re the sponsorship Tropica set up a program a couple of years ago to have a freelance...
New tank time! Ive been after a 120cm tank for a while and while I wanted a 50cm deep tank I couldnt quite find anyone out there making decent custom rimless optiwhites so when Dave Spencer kindly mentioned he was selling his I snapped it up.
After quite enjoying my last dragon stone tank in...
I keep changing my mind! Im stuck between a scree slope, angled rock in one direction with manzi wood, dragon spires pointing in different directions and a few others. Once I get the stone and wood into the tank I'll know then :)
Its a 4 foot by the way :)
love it! Cant wait to see it planted :) Ive got about 50Kg of dragon stone ready to go in my 120cm at the moment. Its a very hard stone to scape with and youve pulled off an excellent job here.
I think Ill probably go with an eheim as I do need another filter. A few peeps have mentioned the 350t so that will go nicely with the 2078 I already have for the 120cm. Just need to find some cash!
Re replacing the problem is when to do it as youve no idea when it might fail. Ian holdich...
Thanks all. will get some pics up soon.
Ive had a complete balls up of the tank tonight thanks to my CRAPPY hydor inline heater. Its been sat doing its job for several years with the thermostat taped up so it doesnt get knocked.
I came home tonight to find fish carnage in the tank :( I had...
those pics were just from the setup day. final pics are on hold due to the ada comp although I think ill probably post them before if I get the chance.
the scape is still running but is growing on for the next tank so looks a bugger!
I got some 20kg boxes from andy's aquatics which were £30 each but the big stones were from TGM for substantially more but I don tknow of anywhere else that sells seiryu that big. You can cheat by putting cheaper rock where it wont be seen to prop the good stuff up :)
No problems with...
lovely piece of wood that will set the tank off nicely.
Ill put my 2 pence in about the setup.
There are a few things that stood out from your list that spring to mind and Id say on a 4 foot tank youll have to decide whether you go high tech or low tech
Hi tech needs pressurised co2, normal...
Thanks for the positive feedback everyone. The pencilfish went back in the 90cm the other week after it got re-scaped as this was a temporary home as its too small for them long term.
We've now got some Endler Guppies in there thanks to TGM as this is technically my daughters tank to look after...
After a few weeks it settled down.
Unfortunately my Fluval 205 gave up the ghost and wouldnt stop pissing the contents of the tank all over the floor so I had to replace it with my ADA superjet.
Previously Ive always had problems setting up this nano with algae creeping in and BBA, thread...
Here's my ADA Mini M which i recently re-scaped for Tropica. Its not a big and detailed scape but I had some nice black lava I wanted to use and wanted a nice contrasty setup to go next to the TV :)
I cut some of the lava with a Stihl Saw to get it flat against the glass where I wanted it...
it looked pants after the dieback! Its had one trim since then and the hairgrass is responding well now and the stems are growing. Will get some updated pics this week.
Cheers Alastair :)
Ive seen it done a few times. Ive also tried to do a level lower front with sloped rocks at the side in the past and its never quite sat right with me. This way the curve leads your eyes up to the sides where there's more detail. With glass half full you could say the slope...
ive had a bit of die back with my buce in my 90cm. Was gutted as Ive lost one but some of them have started coming back. Dont think they liked going from an established tank to a new one. I think next time ill keep them in a spare running tank until the re-scape has settled as dont want to...
Thanks all. you really are too kind. Anything you'd change about it? The left side isnt as strong as the right but im hoping to improve it with stems and some interesting things now and dotted around.
sorry for the delay. I got it planted and its been running a few weeks now.
this was the final hardscape

muahhhhaaa :) Just sorting through everything as ive got 8Gb of tripod shots and vids so bear with me :)
Thanks Al :)
The ones on the left? The rocks have seams here and I cut the HC in rockwool into 1cm cubes and stuff the rockwool in the cracks. for smaller cracks you can just jam the...
Thanks again all. Im hoping it will blossom :) No filled shots yet as I filled it last night and its a bit cloudy at the mo due to some floaters and none of that white stuff in the filter.
Just updated the first post with a full list of plants and tech :)
Im hoping to upgrade to some LED's...
Cheers both :)
Its the same lumps out of the last scape Iain. just in a slightly different plane. Im just working out the planted parts and the sand path through some stone.
Excuse the instagram pics. Proper camera is stuck on the tripod :)
From this pic I might name this scape "jabba the...
cheers Gary. very early days and working on it now. I had planned to start doing two scapes a year in this tank but failed due to being too busy with other work so this may well end up in IAPLC. Ive done a lot of studying on mountain scapes and as Ive come from a Bonsai background into this I...
This is my most recent scape. Previous one here - Stu's 90x45x45cm Tropica Tank | UK Aquatic Plant Society
Hardscape: Seiryu Stone
Co2: Pressurised via diffuser into UP atomiser
Lighting: ADA Solar 1 - 150w NA Green
Filtration: Eheim 2078 Cal Aqua Inlet, ADA P2 Lily
Heating: Hydor 300W...
Cracking tank Iain. Pics look fine here but just to check you haven't got the colour set to adobe rgb have you as that can make the image look washed out on calibrated screens
Swee, As George said this is groudbreaking mate. Really nice scape and so different. I really looking forward to seeing how this turns out as the opportunity for experimenting with photography and lighting in both the upper and lower levels is something new and exiting too!
lol! you had to...
wow! that looks like a very nice setup Iain and im sure youll grace it with a great scape soon! Love the metal pipes and the cutouts and youve got that perfect scaping ratio in a 4 foot. Its the one I want but cant fit in the house! :(
why do I keep missing new threads! This tanks a stunner Iain. Loads of detail and those new rocks look really nice with the green contrasts. Is that parva or lileopsis tucked in the gaps?
Wow! great design and it will look amazing when planted. The only thing I noticed is that the four rocks on the back left all seem the same size and on the same slope in the back left. not that this is a problem as some are pointing in different directions so it breaks them up ok.
Looking...
yeah plenty of it. I did run out for three days last weekend though but I need to pump it in to keep up with that 27W light.
Dont think youd have a chance of running a low tech on a solar mini! :)
cheers both :)
George re the brown/yellow it might be my WB. Will have to check. I did have some algae in the back right stems which im still trying to shift so it might be that you're seeing. It mostly looks green in the flesh though
some progress shots of the tank. Did another quick trim of the stems at the back and HC at the front.

Cheers both. Yes I do find the Solar Mini a bit too bright Viktor, especially when youve got a low plant mass in there. Ive been keeping on top of this one by regular water changes but I have thought of designing a difuser that will cut down the light and let the heat out as it will make my...
