My Ottos never touched the stuff either.

Mine were never that small, so wouldn't of thought that they'd get stuck in and around HC. Although the fry might do if you get them small. I fed them small algae wafers and they lapped it up, never seen lower level fish go for food that quick.

I've never had whitespot, I'm sure there's loads of information on Google. I would of thought the best thing to do is a water change and get some treatment in there. If you have a hospital tank to QT them then that's even better.

I found that Celestial Pearl Danios shoaled very well as they didn't like any movement in or around the tank! I've seen zebra ottos at £10 each.

Dont get me wrong they were great fish, I just found them not my taste after moving to planted tanks. My tiger barbs did tend to stay out of the plants for most of the time, but then some did like to hide away. It's great seeing them display to each other too.

They are fab fish. Mine go for the algae wafers but take a while to get to them and will eat them more during the night. Mine also like cucumber but only with the skin chopped off.

Everytime I see these in the LFS, all I do is want to buy a massive group of them. I might get them for my 180ltr but trying to keep a CPD only tank.

Ottos are as you say a bit fussy, although I've been lucky with mine. You should have a guarantee, take the dead fish into the shop and ask for a replacement. Remember, if you're not happy with the fish they choose then you can always pick another.

I've had harlequins for over a year and only seen one jump, good job I was in the room at the time. It happened on the same day as a CPD jumped in another tank.

Quick update... Just a minute ago, I managed to catch a female (able to tell by the black spot near the anal fin) from my main tank with a trap. It was a 2ltr coke bottle, top chopped off, screw top but chopped off, top pushed inside. Put some food in it and the fish swam in and stayed there...

There I was passing my tank an saw something fly through the air onto the carpet. It was only one of my harlequins. It properly shocked me but he's back in the tank happy as a fish called larry. Anyone else had this?

Due to the curved nature of what I think are eggs in the photo below (near the spray bar) I have some more Otto eggs. I doubt they're pencilfish as never seen any spawning of them and my CPDs are egg scatters. I'm trying to finish my optiwhire asap to put these in.

I would say that my 19 Harlequins 'shoal' somewhat, sometimes they're really close and they're all together. Some of the time they make a few small groups.

Do these get proper fat? Cos mine have a right bulge on them now. They don't look unhealthy just fat. Someone said that a fat Otto is a happy Otto but they like balance on their belly when resting. I'll try and get a photo.

Yes Andy. They're making light work of the algae that is in there so am keeping an eye if they go for the algae pellets or discs. Will also try them on cucumber tomorrow too.
