Bark on the first looks like silver birch. Probably not great wood for a tank, tends to rot quickly. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    What Tank Shape?

Also consider a pseudo cube, I.e square base but slightly taller than it is wide. 30 wide x 30 deep x 36 tall would be cool. That would get away from the symmetry but keep the same foot print. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Critique my hardscape any thoughts?

I agree option 2. The wood looks more natural around the rock. The wood looks like really nice old roots. My eye is drawn to the central branch. Looks like a point where two branches grew together. It has what bonsai people call, negative taper. Not necessarily bad but certainly is a high focal...

Setting up a low tech paludarium

Standard aqua soil (Tropica, ADA etc) Could be poured in behind the rocks, just make sure you plug all the gaps with filter wool. You could work without soil and just plant in the gaps (that’s what I’m doing) Personally I would just use some nice sand or gravel over the glass on the left side...

Setting up a low tech paludarium

Looks much better than the pebbles. You might want to consider moving the right hand bottom rock back from the glass a bit. Can make cleaning difficult! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I think cube footprint tanks are tricky but I like what you have. Lava rock is very versatile. I would be tempted to try some sandy foreground? Have fun! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    My 60l Aquascape.

Pics of scapes with black lava rock in them needed.

Amano did one years a go. Got it in an old Aquajournal somewhere. Big round chunks on bed of hair grass and riccia. Used lava rock in my journal but not an Iwugumi! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Black lava rock

Lava rock is good, I managed to source a load from another scaper. It’s much lighter than other rocks. You could glue bits together (As per the TGM video). https://www.aquasabi.com/aquascaping/hardscape/stones/black-lava Worth giving them an e-mail, they can probably source big bits. I...

Yoghurt method moss - Dry start method - How to grow moss

It does really look great, I would have done it for my upcoming scape but already have a lot of shrimp etc with no other place to put them. I guess Dragon Stone also wicks the water and stays wet? Some of the harder stones I tried just dried out so fast, even misting twice a day. As you say...

Yoghurt method moss - Dry start method - How to grow moss

Just to report my progress with this. First attempt failed due to mould. Tried again just with lava rock. Fissidens works but very slow to grow. Christmas moss work very quick. Willow moss just started to grow, very slow! Think the lava rock on a bed of wet aqua soil is good as it stays damp...

    Nature aquascape "Gora"

Hard to add much! It’s a great scape! Maybe more moss of the lava rock and more epiphite plants on the wood, might add to the “aged” look. The dark rock is a great back drop for the fish. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Heavy Rocks - Any Concern?

I’m still trying to decide on a scape for my AS 900, it’s on the AS cabinet. I’ve been really loving stone dominant scapes recently, not Iwugumi per se but more like the amano planted monolith scapes. I’ve been playing in my scape box. I’ve got some big chunks of shale. I will probably have...

    Check out my Wood

Cheers mate, I think this scape is much more balanced and even comes close to 1:1.6 (although I only notice this afterwards). Was painful to tear up all those stems but it was worth it, I also get to see more of the crypts that were being swamped.

    Check out my Wood

I was inspired by Aaron to pull out all my stems! They look nice but I just can't keep on top of them. So now it's a ferns and moss scape. Also waiting for the hair grass to fill in. Sorry about the cloudy, post water change pic. I might try and add some more wood between the 2 main pieces...

    frustrated or not?

I think like Garuf I ascribe to the Wabi-sabi thought process when it comes to scapes. I currently have 3 tanks and 3 emergent glass bowls and I know that they will wax and wane with time. I think it's really important not to get caught up in "perfection" which is impossible when dealing with...

 I Know what you mean, the wood is more visable in real life. I think the camera hides it in shadows. The stems a pretty rampant and I've never been known as the most disciplined weilder of the sciccors. I'm planning a more concave scape to make more of the wood for my next go. Here's a...

This scape is nearing it's "completed" state, a bit more work on the stems is needed and I hacked back the Pogestemon at the front, that gap is slowly being filled in by hair grass and HC. A little update. Few shots showing the Java fern and bolbitis growing in. Also got some emperor...

    a tale of 2 driftwood

It may be good for giving that Amazon biotope look with neons swimming through it (see George's Cambodian pool), I think it may not look right as part of a planted scape.
