    Underwater Liverwort in Well

Excellent information as always, the tap water round here is very soft but I’ve tested this well and the GH/KH was surprisingly high. I found this growing on the brickwork of a canal lock in Staffordshire. Sounds likely to be the pellia you describe. Is it an aquatic species or just likes...

    Underwater Liverwort in Well

Hi All, Was poking around my Dad’s place and came across the old water well, deep in the undergrowth. I noticed a liverwort growing below the surface. Could it be Riccardia chamedryfolia? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Hydrocotyle tripartita as an epiphyte?

It is also fairly tolerant of low humidity. Works well as a plant growing out the top of an open tank. T Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Hydrocotyle tripartita as an epiphyte?

It grows well for me in high tech set up. It doesn’t exactly grow on wood but will rapidly trail over it if you wedge/stick it to the wood. As mentioned it does tend to take over! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Hygrophila pinnatifida issue

Well I guess it just wasn’t going to grow for me. Using an in line reactor and even the plants getting a full blast from the reactor out let slowly died. Drop checker light green. Tricky plant, very jealous of those who grow it like a weed! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Hygrophila pinnatifida issue

One thing I don’t understand about this plant. It slowly dies underwater in my high tech set up despite ample, light, CO2 ferts etc. It happily grows out of the surface of the same tank? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    H Tripartita - compact growth?

It looks like it’s still transitioning. You should get compact growth but I would let it do what it wants initially. Are you adding plenty of ferts, it looks a bit pale? Once established you can trim it back hard. For me it’s a total thug of a plant. Growing in high tech, low tech and out of...

    Keeping Bolbitis Small

Hi All, I love Bolbitis but the leaves get very big in my 90cm tank. Is it worth regularly trimming back to the rhizome? I like the leaves when they are mature and have lost the curly look. Will regular pruning just result in loads of immature fronds? Tank is hi tech, CO2 etc. Anything...

    Hygrophila pinnatifida pinching tops

Looking good Zeus! I found this plant one of the most tricky to get going. It really doesn’t like growing in any low flow areas in my tank but does great in front of the filters outlet. Interesting to read the TNC site, I’ve been dosing 5ml a day of TNC complete but their guide suggests 8 ml...

    Which Moss to go for?

Thanks, I might try totally open air for the yoghurt moss. I was thinking one of those cheap, solar power pond fountains would be ideal for keeping the rocks wet. Looking at some you tube vids, plain old Java moss can look really nice, when well maintained. Think I might buy some samples and...

    Which Moss to go for?

Thanks Nigel! Moss is always a tricky subject often hard to tell species apart and even the same species can look quite different depending on light, CO2 etc. Is this what you would call Willow Moss...

    Which Moss to go for?

I’m planning a very branchy scape: I want most of the wood covered in moss. I really like the mossy branches featured in ADA videos. What moss do they use? Is it just plain Java Moss? Looking at some of my old journals, I recall I had a lot of “weeping moss” has a very fern like appearance...

    Bolbitis ‘Difformis’

    Bolbitis ‘Difformis’

Got some of this as a tissue culture from Aquarium Gardens, months ago. Most of it melted but I just found a fragment stuck in some moss. Has anyone had much luck with this? What should I do to maximize my fragments chance of survival or even growth !? Thanks [emoji120] Sent from my iPhone...

    utricularia graminifolia

I can't figure this one out, The tall flowers suggest to me it grows underwater but shallow. Sending up flowers out of the water but maybe this just lifts them out of the undergrowth. My best results are in the moss of my emergent tank where it is spreading slowly but no flowers yet. I've...

    More Welsh plant ID needed

I think the third "Bulbous Rush" seems the most similar. It is very small and was growing underwater as well. The others are very common in all upland areas of western UK, as you say are much bigger. Will have to see what grows!

Be Plant Wise - Disposal of aquatic plants

Interesting to see all the tropical invasive species in the US. I assume this is mostly in warm places like Florida, Carolina etc. At least this hard winter will have killed off many non-native species.

Have any of you guys ever had this happen to your moss?

SAE have been fine with shrimp in my experience, I think their mouths are wrong to eat shrimp. I agree with Matt however, SAE can be prolific algae and moss eaters !

Rotola, how do yo get it vertical

I have had some success with M.hirsuita, it comes in the emergant form, the leaves die when submerged so the best thing is to cut off the old leaves laving just the root, rhizome and 1-2 cm of stalk. New leaves soon emerge and it spreads in a glosso-esque fashion with runners.
  44. TBRO

Rotola, how do yo get it vertical

I have Rotola sp. Green, I can't seem to get it to grow in that nice vertical manner you see in amano nature aquariums. I have CO2 and ferts and it grows rapidly enough but is always curving over and looking untidy. Are there any tips to acheiving that nice sphere of green look ?

    blyxa changing colour?flowering???
