Should be OK as long as you introduce new blood every few generations. I've got it in my head that for fish they say every 7 generations was the accepted way (which I thought was quite a long time), but I might be wrong.
Thanks for the answers - he's back buzzing around again today. Just worried me slightly as the Amano Shrimp climbed out too. Thought something might be wrong.
My new Assassin Snail has taken to burying himself - is that normal behaviour? He was pretty active yesterday afternoon and early this morning, but has been half/covered in sand for the last few hours. I dug him out earlier to see if he had died on me, and he just went off and dug himself back...
Not MTS they don't :/ They might suck them out the shells, but the majority won't be able to break through an MTS shell - they're too tough. You can borrow my baileyi if you like :p He made a right mess of my finger last year!
Re: Advice for cherry shrimp set-up
When I was successful with Cherries (pre sodium-softened water), the tank was fairly moss-heavy and they seemed to live, feed and breed in it. I have never fed them specifically, they just seem to eat tiny things in the moss. I bought 3 originally, and lost...
It'll be fine provided they can't get sucked through the filter grills, and you could maybe try 5-10 to start. Throw in some moss and you'll end up with hundreds, no exaggeration.

I'm wondering if that's why mine are going... my kH is really quite high and I'm losing about 1 per day. All the others seem healthy but I keep finding them dead

Have a look at Kesgrave Tropicals' eBay page - they've usually got stuff like CRS, cherrys, amanos, green, yellow and orange shrimp (like cherries), tigers etc etc. They're one of my locals too :D

How do you tell if Cherry Shrimp are getting enough food? My tank is only maybe 4 days old, and there is no algae. Its 10 liters and I have 27 shrimp (£6 bargain!)
I put in one of the shrimp pellets that came with the tank, and they haven't touched it. It just went to mush and they left it...
Mmm don't know what they are then. A dwarf cichlid or something would probably control them, but might go for small shrimp. I know it was already suggested...
If a wormer can get to the internal parasites, would that not mean it's a systemic treatment? Shouldn't it then get externals too? :?
Just thinking aloud, might be wrong there
Tom
I bought 5 cherries originally, and when I took down my last 40cm I had >20 babies (that I managed to find and save) I didn't know existed! I find them good for algae eating. They look nicer than Amanos too IMO
