New and after a little help.

Looks ok to me - what ferts will you be using? Don't need too much surface agitation, but a small ripple is good. You may want a little bit more flow, but see how it goes. Might be better off with a spray bar than lily pipes. As for carpet plants, try some Dwarf Sagittaria. I've found it...

Sheet betwwen tank and stand necessary ?

Yes you will need one. I would go for one of the rubbery ones though over polystyrene as they look better. If there are any small uneven bits on the stand, or the wood isn't 100% flat it will absorb it and save the tank from cracking.

    Amanos dosing regimen

I know when I used 100% rainwater (funnily enough, for all successful tanks to date!!) I used a fraction of the CO2 I use in our tapwater. I couldn't go that low now. I was dosing very lean too (ADA with Malaya, not Amazonia), maybe the rainwater had lots of goodies in - I don't know.

Wow that's really nice. Very impressive for such a small tank. Is it running a skimmer?
  39. Tom

    Amanos dosing regimen

Yeah, he doses pretty lean. With the amount of N and P in Amazonia, he would probably only dose Lights in extreme tanks, or tanks with Malaya or Africana. I used his regime first time round with Malaya, Brighty K, Step 1 and Spec Lights and it worked well. I didn't get on so well with Amazonia...

The trouble with this year's filter wool entry I think is that there isn't enough emphasis on the plants. It looks as if it's just been left to get on with it, where all the care has been on the waterfall section. The CAU guy who did it a few years back I think nailed it.

    Optimising cascade-style shop plant tanks....

Thanks, Going with the trickle filter idea - how about a pond-style filter with a spraybar over the top? So the cascade overflows down a pipe into the spray bar. That then distributes water over a bed of media and out through the bottom into the main sump. Turbulance - for planted tanks it's...

    Optimising cascade-style shop plant tanks....

Cheers Luis - I think 200 might be pushing it though to be honest. The budget would be more like £20 I reckon! I know that would likely work, but these shops have silly-low budgets. It'll be a case of doing as much as possible on as little a budget as possible. They don't sell enough plants...

    When Algae looks Good.

That does look very natural :) I've just let my Puffer tank do it's thing with algae - the rocks get covered in BBA which I think looks quite nice. I remember seeing a tank at ADC in London years ago with discus in that was pretty much 100% BBA covered. Intentional or not, it looked good.

    Optimising cascade-style shop plant tanks....

Hi, I might have to overhaul a plant system in a shop. It's probably a cascade-style system as far as I know, with several tiers flowing down and then overflowing into a sump.
