Looks ok to me - what ferts will you be using? Don't need too much surface agitation, but a small ripple is good. You may want a little bit more flow, but see how it goes. Might be better off with a spray bar than lily pipes. As for carpet plants, try some Dwarf Sagittaria. I've found it...

Yes you will need one. I would go for one of the rubbery ones though over polystyrene as they look better. If there are any small uneven bits on the stand, or the wood isn't 100% flat it will absorb it and save the tank from cracking.

I lost count of how many Cherries I had in those tanks. I didn't buffer it at all. All I added were ADA ferts.

Mine was bang on pH 6. I just got it from a water butt though.

I know when I used 100% rainwater (funnily enough, for all successful tanks to date!!) I used a fraction of the CO2 I use in our tapwater. I couldn't go that low now. I was dosing very lean too (ADA with Malaya, not Amazonia), maybe the rainwater had lots of goodies in - I don't know.

Yeah, he doses pretty lean. With the amount of N and P in Amazonia, he would probably only dose Lights in extreme tanks, or tanks with Malaya or Africana. I used his regime first time round with Malaya, Brighty K, Step 1 and Spec Lights and it worked well. I didn't get on so well with Amazonia...

OK, most of those I would imagine (maybe minus the crabs) would be fine on an insect-based diet (maybe frozen/freezedried), as they probably wouldn't get fish protein in their natural habitat. The crabs I'm not so sure on. There are other forms of protein other than meat, however I don't know...

The trouble with this year's filter wool entry I think is that there isn't enough emphasis on the plants. It looks as if it's just been left to get on with it, where all the care has been on the waterfall section. The CAU guy who did it a few years back I think nailed it.

I reckon Dutch influence is probably the easiest way to scape a cube. No hardscape to place, which to me would be the hardest part in those dimensions. Tom

Re: They are Tropica, and pretty cheap IMO. We don't get the Presto plants any more. As long as the plants are bought within a week of delivery, there's no problems.

Re: Not at all true. While I might not agree with all their fish policies 100%, their training is very good and thorough. They do the best any company can to educate staff, but yes they are also a business just like anything. Profit keeps businesses alive.

That does look very natural :) I've just let my Puffer tank do it's thing with algae - the rocks get covered in BBA which I think looks quite nice. I remember seeing a tank at ADC in London years ago with discus in that was pretty much 100% BBA covered. Intentional or not, it looked good.

Much easier I think in wet substrate, but only 1/4" of water. That way plants won't float up and will be held in place by the heavier waterlogged substrate.

I've been thinking about something minimal for when I set the Do!aqua cube up properly. Maybe either a feature Crypt or Nymphaea maybe just in sand or surrounded by moss.

£4.85, plus I got some KNO3 as well. He's just started stocking Tropica recently, and cheaper than TGM. I'm not sure what TGM charge for 1-2-grow, but the normal pots are significantly less. Not as much in stock though as yet to be fair, but they're in the process of setting up a physical shop...

There are several available by companies like Dennerle, Fluval, AquaEl, Eheim, TMC etc etc. I have the AquaEl 10 liter shrimp kit which was around £50, or they do 20l and 30l versions up to around £65. I like mine, but I think I would choose Dennerle if I was to replace it. Tom

Keep it clean! Keep up on your maintenance. Remove any dead or damaged leaves as soon as you see them, and keep your filter clean. Any rotting material will lead to problems if left unchecked.
