    Fire red shrimp

You could always buy online. I've just bought some fire reds from Sharnbrook shrimp and not only did they arrive alive and very healthy, there was detailed acclimation instructions (including tubing), there were also two more shrimp than I had paid for!! Viv

    Absolute shrimp novice seeking advice.

I agree about shrimp only tanks being the best way to see your shrimp at their best. Saying that though I have kept them with rummy nose tetra, black neon tetra and harlequin rasboras without any trouble - the shrimp were out and about all time just as if there weren't any fish in the tank...

    Planaria in Shrimp only tank.

I used No planaria and while it killed the planaria it also killed the snails and about 50% of my rcs :( I was advised it might have been due to an interaction with something else in the tank but there was nothing except inert gravel, play sand and plants in there. I think if the need arises in...

Oh well nevermind! Maybe I need to get another tank going then :D Viv

Will you grade these rcs for me please

As said really, I know some of you are really experienced and knowledgable shrimp keepers so would like you to tell me what grade of rcs these would be: I have no illusions about them being top grade or anything but I'm kinda hoping for sakura - maybe :) Viv

    New blue pearls :)

I finally managed to get some blues recently. I got 14 about 3 weeks ago and I had another 10 from Fresh Water Shrimp that arrived on Thursday. I've been holding off of posting as I didn't want to jump the gun - 8 months ago I bought some yellows that all died over the first week :( These are...

    Do i have baby Amano's?

On another forum I've been on someone else said they had amanos breeding in their freshwater tank. They put up photos of the shrimplets in the filter box. Apparently it was a regular thing for them. They were in the UK too, not the US. I've been trying to find it again but it was a while ago and...

Poll - have you kept Sulawesi shrimp?

Those cardinals are stunning shrimp and I would love to try keeping them. My water is naturally hard and alkaline too, and a high temperature is an easy matter to sort out. Not sure how many I could get at the price though! Maybe only 4 or 5 so I'm not sure it would be feasible? Viv

Assasin snails with red cherry shrimp

I've got two assasins in my 180 with lots of rcs. The assasins aren't beeding but they don't seem to bother the rcs at all if thats any help? My clowns made short work of a zebra snail so I'm pretty sure they'd handle an assasin with ease! Viv

You know mlgt, after looking at the rcs grade link posted up by hotweldfire, I wouldv'e said your shrimp look more like the Fire Reds! Viv

    Striped rcs

Hmm, these stripes don't vary at all and the shrimp are pretty well coloured apart from that. It doesn't show too well in the photo but this shrimp's got nice solid red sides and red legs. I actually quite like them  I will definitely see if I can find out how offspring turn out :) Viv

    Striped rcs

Interesting. I wonder if I could remove a berried female and see how coloured her young are? Its the only way I imagine I could check her offspring. I've got a little tank cycling in the kitchen atm so I might give that a go when its ready :D Viv

    Striped rcs

A few of my rcs have a very distinctive stripe down their backs and I was wondering if this is a common thing? Viv

    Red cherry shrimp maturity

Have you checked your filter to see if they made it through alive? I know it may sound dumb but when I first put an exernal on my 180l I didn't think about covering the inlet. The first time I changed the white pad in it I had rcs jumping up out of the filter from where they'd got sucked in and...

    Red cherry shrimp maturity

Colour can be very dependant on environment in my experience. I had some shrimp on play sand and they were extremely pale: The same shrimp got better colour after I changed the substrate to dark, grey gravel And some of those original shrimp went deep red when I put them in another tank on...

    cherry shrimp tank

I'm sure you'll get better advice about how to set up a nice shrimp tank from others than you'd get from me, but just wanted to say that my cherries have been fine with liquid carbon and seem to be coping with the change to CO2 very well too, so I don't think its anything to worry about too...

    Pregnant Cherry Shrimp Death

Its strange that its only females carrying eggs. Thinking about this, is it possible the deaths are due to some sort of vitamin/mineral deficiency due to making eggs/carrying developing young? For example, Dincho mentioned calcium deficiency as a possible cause but it got ruled out because of...

    Pregnant Cherry Shrimp Death

I've got the API master kit. I hold the tube against the card with daylight shining onto it to get a reading. I'd give your water authority a ring and see what they say about it. It sounds like they are pushing the legal limit for nitrates if not breaking it!! Viv

I doubt it Lemsip. My GH and KH are even higher than yours and my rcs are breeding fine. Viv

Odd behaviour and CO2. Fairly urgent!

Yep spyder, I think thats gonna be the safest way for me to go. I just need to find him! He's doing his usual thing and staying hidden  Viv

Odd behaviour and CO2. Fairly urgent!

Thanks for that. I turned the CO2 back on at 1 bps but the drop checker stayed nearer to blue than green so I've upped it to 2 bps. I'm thinking about moving shrimpy to another tank without any CO2 so that I can go back to where it was, as all the other fish and shrimp seemed happy enough. I...

Odd behaviour and CO2. Fairly urgent!

Right, I've virtually turned the CO2 off for now (less than 1 bps) and I've raised the spray bars above the water surface. I've taken a photo of my drop checker so you can give me an idea of what colour to aim for, as according to the chart I've got this looked like it should have been fine for...

Odd behaviour and CO2. Fairly urgent!

I've got a filter shrimp who is behaving very oddly: out in the open, not feeding (I've never seen him not feeding!!), on his side quite a bit. The only thing that has changed is my putting in an inline CO2 diffuser. Is it possible for this to be affecting him or is this coincidence and I should...

    Wipe Out

Although it stemmed from something I wish hadn't happened this has been very interesting and enlightening. I'm pretty new to shrimp keeping and planted tanks and hadn't fully realised how sensitive shrimp can be. I'd heard about shrimp sensitivity to copper so had started rinsing new plants in...

20g new red cherry setting up help please

I hate to say it after you've already bought the RO unit but rcs would probably be okay even though your water is hard. Mine are thriving and out of the tap my water is GH 19, pH 8 - 8.2. Viv

    Opportunist! :)

I put an algae wafer in my planted tank every day for my ottos and rcs and today I managed to catch my asian filter feeder taking advantage of the bounty! I don't usually get to see him - just his shell casts - so was well pleased and thought I'd share :) Viv

Keeping assassin snails with other snails?

My two assasins made lunch out of one of my zebras too. Had to move the zebras to another tank. I was hoping the assasins would eat some unwanted ramshorns but it looks like mts are much tastier! Viv

Random shrimp deaths in mature tank

I don't think Seachem prime is to blame as I use it for all my tanks and my shrimp are fine. I lose one occassionally due to age in the planted tank but the scale of reproduction means it doesn't make a dent. I started with 20 rcs in March and have about 300 now after having sold 500-600 over...

    Red Shrimp Wanted

Well you've sparked something off! I've got a small 25l corner sitting out in the shed and I've decided today to bring it in and get it ready for an attempt at intensifying my shrimps colours :) I'll put my reddest females and one or two of my reddest males in and see how the offspring turn...

    Red Shrimp Wanted

Some of my rcs are very red: Is this what you mean? Trouble is though they're in with the rest. You've got me thinking about maybe trying to breed for this though so more turn out like these! Viv
