What is that yellow "stuff" on the belly of my Amano shrimp?

A mix of juveniles and adult or a mix of large females and small males. I bet the last! Every time someone mentioned breeding in fresh water, either they thought the much smaller males were young shrimp or they didn't possessed real Amano shrimp. It's simple not possible!

    More than 1 apisto pair??

Never had any problems with nijsseni. They bred and I had free swimming fry with a KH of 5-6:)

    which fish is this?

Hmm... Over here in the Netherlands we always get about a 50/50 mix of male and female of Iriatherina werneri. The only fish we always have 99% male is Dario dario. Every female looking Dario turns out to be a male when in my tank for a while.

    need help to choose fish

No they can use air if there is no oxygen in the water. As long as you keep oxygen high, no problem! Angels are one of the easiest fish indeed but unless you buy adults, you need to feed them quite a lot to get nice large angels. This means 2-3x a week a large water change to remove organics or...

    Sex Sphaerichthys vaillanti

Yeah, they need quite some space. The alpha female is already dominating half of the 400L tank. No way you can keep them in an open scape like iwagumi neither btw. She really lives up to the name Samurai gourami:p

    Sex Sphaerichthys vaillanti

For anyone reading this with the same question: Found out by now that all 6 were females. Any vertical stripe means female (the one in the picture above as well) so I bought 3 others of which 2 are 100% male. And to show off a little (no award winning pictures but nonetheless): Female in neutral...

ID what's wrong with this fish

Columnaris is caused by Flavobacterium columnare, which is a gram negative bacteria. In your filter are hundreds of kinds of bacteria, either gram-negative or gram-positive. If affected the nitrifying bacteria can cause most damage because a nitrite peak may occur. Luckily most nitrifying...

    Sex Sphaerichthys vaillanti

Although I'm mainly a plant enthousiast, I've always loved the colors on this fish. Till now I only had schooling fish and an algae crew in my tank. But I could get these for a very nice price and they were colorful from the minute they arrived at the lfs I work. So I took the 4 most beautiful...

    L204 vs My Hardscape

Lots of smaller L-numbers, it depends more on availability in your lfs. L104 is smaller as is L169 (both not too hard to find) but they do eat wood. They only eat soft wood so I think your Manzi will last a decade. L046 is quite easy to find if you got the money and doesn't eat wood. Or a more...

I think most line bred fish do adapt to any hardness. I had ramirezi spawn in KH=17. (Off course, eggs never hatched). So all mentioned above are fine as long as you don't get wild caught.

These Pearl Gouramis aren't going to have babies, are they?

I would at least add 2 females. Or even better two females per male.

These Pearl Gouramis aren't going to have babies, are they?

Two males indeed. The second with sub-dominant colors, but the dorsal fin is much shorter and more rounded for females.

    Fish in drop checker!!!

I think with this type of DC it is more likely (shorter air distance). Also is this one filled with water so no air barrier to overcome for the fish.

    Fish in drop checker!!!

A little less gas exchange but it won't be a real problem. But as long as there is enough air in th DC the change of fish getting in is very small. If the water is high in the DC, it increases the change, but this must have been a very rare case!
