I thought about one a while back but wasn't convinced with all the openings at the top together and that couple with the strong Euro and high postage persuaded me against it. So I built my own instead and got 2 for less than one would have cost.
I have done in the past but find no need to do so now that I have a second spraybar agitating the surface, also my CO2 is on a solenoid so is off at night. DC is blue if I look in the morning (ie - before CO2 on again). This way I feel I get maximum oxygenation at all times with the trade off...
Just to say - I've just converted from a ceramic diffuser to an in-line reactor and have had to turn my CO2 down quite a, even then I almost gassed a few fish and I struggled to get the level down enough so that the drop checker wasn't yellow all the time. Both reactors I made are outputting a...
Got mine built and one fitted to the main tank, don't know if it's just me but it seems I have more O2 bubbles coming from the plants now.
Used blanking caps so that I can take them off for cleaning or to add bio balls should I feel the need.
Has made the tank look much better to me for...
I too had one of those reactors and yes it was useless.
I have found a use for it now though, it is the inlet strainer for my overflow - it fits 40mm pipe perfectly !!
If only the pound wasn't so weak just now !!
Just got a response from them on total cost.
30 Euro for the reactor & 20 Euro for delivery, and no doubt the bank will charge a conversion charge on top. I'd be better off getting the Aquamedic 1000 from the Green Machine if going for ready...
Thanks for getting back James, figured if anybody had come across one it might have been you, I'm going to go ahead and get it though and see how it does.
For the cost, it seems a good deal and if it works it'll have saved me some time and effort messing around with bits and pieces.
Nearly posted in Steves post but thought it better to start again. Having thought about building my own external I decided to look around to see what purpose built reactors were out there.
Has anybody used or seen this one:

I assume that...
Just a quick question on that reactor - is that somebody's home made one that you bought ?
I've looked up a few posts on how to make one and I am going to try myself but was just interested to see if there was another brand other than Cal Aqua.
Of course it doesn't have to be FEs either for the pressurised gas, I use pub bottles as the refills are cheaper than the FEs and they also give me more being a much bigger bottle.
To be perfect honest Nick, now that I have pressurised CO2, I won't do anything else. I'm looking for splitters with different needle valves for future projects once I move house so that I can have all the CO2 tanks together.
Could you not go that way, if you already have a fit ?
Sounds like...
Have you attempted to run the CO2 line straight from the solenoid to the diffuser ?
It really does sound like the problem I had, I turned up the CO2 at the bottle and got bubbles eventually coming out of the diffuser but it emptied my bottle. Having got another bottle, I removed the...
It is a leak
I had the same bubble counter (along with regulator & solenoid) from the far east and after topping up it leaked. I'm not sure where from but there are so many joints and seals with that setup (bottom connector, bottom brass to glass, top brass to glass and top pipe) it was 2 days...
I've not come across many converters myself .. I take it you mean so that you can attach a 22mm threaded regulator to a smaller thread bottle. Personally I just plonk a pub bottle in the corner of the room and cover it.
When I was looking at using the disposable bottles though, I was going to...
An interesting test, but as with Aarons comments, I wonder how the teardrop would have performed if only half filled. My CO2 is on 2 hours before & the drop checker is green when the lights come on and stays the same colour throughout the day (is blue before CO2 injection).
I've had the same with the water disappearing and although not sure I put it down to a bit of evaporation due to the bubble counter being mounted on the solenoid. When I tweaked the rate (only to get more CO2 in) I ended up with an empty bottle the next day so I suspect some form of leak...
I have No2 & No3.
No2 as said above is very sensitive when trying to do fine adjustments. As for the solenoid I have had no problems. The only problem I had was a bit of evaporation from the bubble counter (being mounted on the solenoid, it gets a bit of warmth).
No3 had a leak from the...
I've got one of those & it emptied a bottle before I realised. The lock washer was too wide and didn't allow the seal to mate inside, it was OK while I was using their reactor (low pressure), however when I switched to a glass diffuser the higher pressure caused a leak. On removal of the lock...
I bought that one from Malasia & replaced the plug - it works very well and there is no noise at all from the solenoid. I'm not sure about adjusting the secondary pressure but it was all set already and the needle valve & solenoid beat the ones I got from Germany hands down...
I went to a centre which does bottles for pubs, got a large bottle for £10 deposit (get the whole tenner back when finished with the bottle) and the gas cost me £13
It makes you wonder how much quality control is going into these products with the number of people finding problems. I had a leak from my solenoid caused by a design fault. A lock washer was too big and did not allow a seal to make.
