What size and type CO2 cylinder and where to get them in South Wales?

There’s a seller of refurbished fire extinguishers on Facebook marketplace - I got two delivered for £35 a few months back. I get mine refilled at Gas Link Wales in Pontyclun-I think it’s around £5 for a 2kg FE.

    Best reactor for 500l tank?

I'm using two AM100's in a 450 litre tank and think they're brill. I initially used a AM100 on one side and an UP inline diffuser on the other - soon had to ditch the UP due to the bubbles. There is a faint trickline noise from both the AM100's, but I don't hear them when shut inside the cabinet.

is welding co2 safe to use

If you have a machine mart anywhere near you, the same bottles only cost £14.39, or £11.99 on a VAT free day. http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/produ ... inder-600g.

    clarke co2 dissposable bottle

I use these on my 20l nano where one lasts about three months, which I consider to be cost effective given that I don't have a co2 refiller near, but I use fire extinguishers from eBay for my 120l tank since a Clarke bottle lasts about 2 weeks-expensive!

    Nitrile Washers

    Hi. I've got the same D+D convertor as you and I got a pack of 100 nitrile washers for £4.99 + £1.50 P+P. I contacted this seller http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/washersdirect ... Co2 Solenoid

As long as it's marked as co2 tubing it doesn't matter. Soft is easier to get onto the connections and glassware.

    Co2 Solenoid

I've had two of these - both run brilliantly with no problems. One gave up the ghost after 2 years and a few weeks-just after the guarantee ran out, but the other is still working after 3 years and about 4 months. I replaced the broken one with the same model and that one is working fine for me...

Converting reg from disposable to FE

Hi all I've got a regulator which fits onto Clarke disposable bottles. I want to convert it to run FE's so I bought the D+D convertor from AE. It fits the FE fine, but has a different thread to the regulator. Does this mean that D+D have their own specific thread like Dennerle, or am I missing...

    Best CO2 Tubing??

I've had exactly the same thing happen with Co2 tubing from Aquatic Magic. However, it is quite strange - it only happens when the tubing is submerged in my goldfish tank - it is fine emersed on all my four tanks, and is fine submerged in my shrimp tank. Very strange. However, I've just replaced...

what is the best recipe for DIY co2 ?

Oh, also, forgot to say, I personally don't find the Hagen ladder to be the best diffuser because bubbles were escaping after not completely diffusing into the water column. I personally find the el scaffo glass diffusers from fleabay work better.

what is the best recipe for DIY co2 ?

Hi. In my hagen canisters I use 100ml of sugar, 5ml of bicarb of soda and 1.5ml of yeast with 500ml of water I use camping bottles with a hole drilled in the lid and the co2 tube siliconed into place for my larger, 100l tank, and I double the recipie because the container is double the size. A...

    Co2 tubing degrading in tank

Thanks for the responses guys. Garuf, that's a good idea, I can see why the excel would affect the tubing. However, I don't use excel or any liquid carbon, so no joy there. It's a low tech tank-it's not even carrying huge amounts of co2-its connected to 2 Hagen units. Weird. Daniel, that's...

    Co2 tubing degrading in tank

Hi all. I was wondering if anyone has come across this problem before - the co2 piping in my goldfish tank seems to break down. It's like it crazes and then releases the co2 from the cracks before it gets to the diffuser. That in itself isn't a problem because the bubbles it releases are quite...

    Cheap Soloenoid

Hi, yes, I've got it working on the tank now because my old one was sticking and was a sealed unit. It dosen't get too hot - about the same as the one I was using on my tanks before, which I found lasted about 13months (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CO2-magnetic-valv ... 20adf09d1f). I've no idea what...

    Cheap Soloenoid

Hi all I've been doing a bit of thinking (don't laugh - it's not funny :D), and I came the the conclusion that the solenoid I use on my welder will do the same job on my co2 system. So I tried it and it did. Welding solenoids seem to work out cheaper than solenoids designed specifically for...

    Is this convertor for FE?

Hi guys I've been using disposable bottles from Machine Mart, but I've now bought a FE so I'd like to convert my current unbranded reg to fit a FE. Will the D+D converter be suitable? It says, 'Converter for use on the D & D CO2 Set for fresh water and the JBL CO2 Set Easy system to allow the...

    Is all CO2 the same?

I've been using these bottles for about 2 years in both my large and nano tank, and they've always been fine. If you can catch Machine Mart on a VAT free day and stock up then, it works out a little cheaper. I'm not 100% sure they'll fit the reg, but I would have thought so.

    External c02 diffuser

I haven't actually covered mine, because I don't like the look of it, and it's in a fairly dark place, so it's only after a year that I've decided it needs a clean :D. If it got algae all the time I would definately cover it because I'd be so paranoid about breaking it.
  30. amy4342

    External c02 diffuser

No probs. It's actually made with quite thick glass and I was very pleased with how well it handled - it was extremely easy to attach 16mm tubing to it, although I'm now afraid to take it off for cleaning . The 16mm tubing hasn't needed any ties or anything to hold it on and there's been...

    External c02 diffuser

Hi Steve I've got a Cal Aqua 17mm. I think it's great. I find the diffusion excellent, although it can be noisy at times, emitting a high pitched squeak if that makes sense, and it's quite hard to clean manually because of all the nooks and cranny's. Soaking would probably work, but you'd need...

    Would i benefit from c02 on a 35litre?

Machine Mart do 600g (same size as 500g bottles) for £9.76 or £8.49 if you get them on a vat free day - one lasts about 3/4 months on my 20l! I'm not sure if your regulator will fit it though, I think the thread is different on refillable/non-refillable bottles. Maybe someone else knows?
  33. amy4342

    Would i benefit from c02 on a 35litre?

When I set up 20l, I used Excel and got good results. I then switched to pressurised, and prefer it, because it's more stable, gives even better results and a 600g bottle lasts about 3/4 months! So possibly works out cheaper than Excel anyway, not sure. I do have a solenoid on it though.

    Weird Drop Checker

Ok, this is soooo strange. I've just rinsed out my 2 drop checkers. Filled them both back up again, with exactly the same solutions, one is blue and the other is a diamond green colour!!! So strange! Both solutions are exactly the same! I've retried it loads of times - the small drop checker is...

    Diffuser for yeast co2

    Diffuser for yeast co2

Hi all. I'm currently using 2 Hagen Nutrafin canisters in my low-tech tank, and I'm using the ladders that come with them, but they're so unslightly! Does anyone use glass diffusers with them, or is the pressure not great enough? Also, would the diffusion rate be as good as with the ladders. Thanks!

    converter from extinguisher to disposable

Well, I've come up with one method anyway, which I think I'm going to use. I'm going to get an ordinary regulator for a disposable bottles (they dont come with gauges so I'm just going to keep lots of spare bottles), and then add a needle valve for fine adjustment from aquatic magic. I'm pretty...

    converter from extinguisher to disposable

I've been having the same trouble unfortunately - I can get 600g bottles for cheaper than a FE and refill - my local MA wanted £15 to refil a 500g bottle! . I know that the regulator you have included a link for dosen't work with disposable bottles - I've already tried it. The thread...

    Co2 Regulator

Hi all I was wondering if anyone could show me where I can buy a Co2 regulator for a disposable cylinder (like the welding ones). Drop Checker

    Drop Checker

Hi all I've just ordered new stuff for my drop checker because I was running out. I've ordered the 4dkh and the Refil for the JBL Permenant C02 test which is labelled bromothymol blue. Cheapish disposable bottles

Hi all. Just thought I'd mention that Machine Mart do VAT free days every so often (you have to subscribe to them though, I know you can do it in-store, not sure about online), and they sell 600g Clarke Weld bottles of Co2 for £7.99. Normal price including VAT is £9.39.

    Regulator

Hi all I need a regulator and solenoid for my FE - I saw this one on eBay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Dual-Gauged-CO2-R ... .m14.l1318. Anyone had any experience with this one or could recommend me a better one? Thanks

    Dennerle Co2

That's good to hear - thanks Ziggy. What size tank were you dosing? 350g is a lot to use in one month. My tank is only 250l and I'm getting a 500g so I wonder if I'd use that much? I would be more swayed towards a fire extinguisher if the costs are so high.
  51. amy4342

    Dennerle Co2

Hi Matt Thanks very much for both your replies - that's good news about adding co2 via the filter - looks a lot tidier. With regards to the Dennerle classic line, I'm pretty sure they don't use a standard thread, so it stands to reason that it's not refillable, in which case, maybe the FE would...

    Dennerle Co2

Oops, I have another question also. Has anyone used the micro-perler special? The unit attaches to the bottom of the filter intake, where the Co2 diffuses into the water, which then passes through the filter and then out into the aquarium, complete with Co2. I have a few concerns because I...

Dennerle comfort line 250 disposible refills alternatives ?

That's true - all the Dennerle systems have different threads to other systems. They even have different threads within the different Dennerle systems - the classic line (refillable) has a different thread to the comfort line (disposable). Crazy stuff. You can buy thread adaptors from most DIY...

    Dennerle Co2

Hi all I was wondering if anyone here used the Dennerle re-fillable Co2 canisters (the classic line range)? I read somewhere that the bottles are only refillable by dennerle stockists? I can't see how that would be, but it does mean that I won't be able to go with a dennerle kit if it is the...
