I've got both - for me they are equally as good. I've had the Arcadia for approximately 7 years and it hasn't failed, I've had the Hagen Glo about 2 years and it's been brilliant. For me, the Arcadia is more aesthetically pleasing, but come with the price tag too.

Yup, I'm running 36W on a 5 gallon also - never had any algae problems, but I made sure I had a good filter (Fluval 105) and a high co2 rate with a Boyu external diffuser, also dosed EI. As long as you get your co2, flow and nutrients right things should be ok.

I managed to get the 24w model from eBay for £25 delivered, which is a good price IMO. The same seller has the 39W for £27 and the 54W for £29 delivered, which is pretty good. The seller was good aswell, with quick delivery etc. Just search Hagen Glo on eBay if you're interested.
